Maybe your mind blotted out the ravine in the same way it blotted out the up-to-your-waist-in-a-bog until your Dad reminded you! I found trekking poles a help with steep downhills.
Did you say you were having a rest day? Me, I'm aiming for a rest week. Also doing John Wayne imitations - tried both ice and heat on sore legs with no noticeable effect - any medical tips?
Caspar - I do not think I will manage to grow a new pair of legs by then. Hippo - you are a marvel to be running today - I might just about manage a swim.
Benz I am in awe at your persistance, I am sorry that you were disappointed not to finish, to have gone so far and through so much and then not to finish must ahve been heartbreaking, did you treat yourself to a tube of pringles? If not then your willpower is legendary!
Well done and congratulations to everyone that entered. After all the rain the moors must have been a virtual bog all the way across. Hippo commiserations to you on not finishing but you got 38.5 miles further than I did. Well done for having the courage to enter the race, I've been reading the post race reports and the conditions sounded absolutely terrible. Once again well done to everyone for Saturday.
A big thanks to Bryan, who not only put up with us flapping around beforehand and moaning en route 9all in the best possible way of course!)
but actually did have bacon sarnies for us - although I heard that sluggie ate them all before I arrived, and a big bottleof gin.
The most entertaining part of the day way Tim drinking neat gin within 5 minutes of finishing - lost all comprehensible speech within seconds!
Seriously though Bryan if there is a mailing list for the event next year I'dlike to go on it, and if you know of similar races in the area I'd ike to know about them
Kendra seemed to think there loads, but she speaks so fast I couldnt keep up
Well done to all for doing this event - sounds like a nightmare to me. Hippo - what a fantastic report, I would have been scared sh**less with those steep downhills, you did brill.
This just reminds me why I now rarely do any off road events.
Well done Hippo for doing 2 miles. I was going to have a week off, but it'll probably do my legs good to go for a tiny jog. You're right Casper, it was funny when Tim knocked back the gin, before Laura had chance to put any tonic in, good man. The funniest moment for me was the disbelief in Tim's voice, "I can't believe he's running across here" when NMP stormed across the bogs. Hope you've got your legs clean now Tim. Did you find out how your team did btw?
Loz dont you remember that in fact Tims legs were remarkably clean compared to everyones elses, he must have been taking the easy routes through the bog, unless NM 'the bog trotter' P so successfuly cleara pathway that Tim could easily tip toe through it!
