Cath - have you thought of trying Spatone? It's supposed to not have side effects such as constipation. I dunno how effective it is compared to the iron tablets in the mainstream health service!!
You lucky thing - you can get to eat spinach and even lava bread every day ;0))
spinach is lovely - that'll put colour in your cheeks!
Oh! and don't forget the draught Guiness - best drunk in Ireland! go on, go on holiday! Chuck the students some guidelines and let them get on with it ;0))
I've had my dinner (not very healthy but this evening I really really don't care!)
So... the surgeon. He says the CT scan that I had was neck, shoulder and chest which pretty much covers all the major areas he was concerned about (lung, axilla, liver) and it was all clear. There was nothing to show any lymph node enlargement on any of it. He explained that he thought the origin of the new lymphoedema was probably from some residual radiotherapy scarring. The physio's at Clatterbridge had explained that if I didn't get lymphoedema afterwards, I was unlikely to get it. So, that's why I thought there was a major problem. The surgeon says though that this isn't true he said that normal skin takes at least 18 months to form scar tissue (and I do remember that from my wound healing classes at nursing school). But he says radiotherapy zapped skin can take twice as long to heal and for scar tissue to form properly. Plus he also explained the way the lymph was likely drain over my shoulder/clavicle area and that's why my neck felt 'thicker'. I was very relieved when he explained it... he said he had just wanted to make sure, given my original diagnosis and how aggressive the original cancer was, that all was well.
Then... he moved on to my schedule. Hhhmm he wasn't very happy with the 6am start every day. When I went into detail of what my week consists of his words were 'no wonder you're shattered, when do you get a rest?'
So consider myself told off. I'm going to sit and study my schedule tonight and put down holiday days from now until march each week so that I end up working part-time again!

Great news, Cath! I prescribe lots of steak sarnies and rest.
Anyway I'm gonna go get dinner and then I'll catch up on FFF later - I am going to need serious pointers on 'slowing down'
;o)
kept trying to tell you you were shattered from the worry ;-))
btw - Spatone iron ( mineral water based) is a great way to get iron without the gut problems - give it a go ...not another pill either
