I've got a mad idea of trying to run around 20 miles of it, and stagger the rest. Maybe run for 10 mins, walk for 15 or something like that (haven't worked out the maths).
Food - a rucksack full. Next weekend will be good practice at carrying it all Vrap!
That's what I thought, Juicer ) Looking forward to next weekend as training as well as for itself. And I KNOW you can be trusted to eat properly!
I suspect Lyke Wake will be "run the bits that are runnable and walk the bits that aren't until we're too tired to run, then walk the rest". But we'll need to run chunks of it to get within the cut-off.
Oooh, had SUCH difficulty choosing...the Walshes were a lovely blue, the NBs had nice bright orange laces...but the man in the shop pointed out that they'd all be brown after a couple of outings, so I went for the Innov8 Mudrock 280s cos they were the most expensive )
The colour will clash dreadfully with my windproof jacket and running tights, though (
Humph! I wave a tantalising ultra under the Haggis's nose, and next thing I know he's plotting to run off with my younger, prettier and speedier friend ;o)
V-rap, just received the following response from Innov-8 regarding you 'new shoes':
"We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the lack of color choice available in our range of fell shoes. We did produce a ladies model in a delicate shade of pink, but only sold one pair (we believe this was to a Ms. Barbie? ). All the SERIOUS runners preferred a more subdued colorway. We hope that the color will not put you off our shoes, and that you get many miles out of them"
Welcome to the ranks of Innov-8'ors, they are really good shoes, as you know I've had mine in use on Jura in REALLY boggy conditions and the grips was fantastic.
Looking forward to giving my Inov-8s their first proper workout on this course! Mind you, I'm not sure that the Flyrocs are really 'hardcore' enough...
Have been lurking on here whilst I make my mind up if it would be a sane decison to enter. Put off by the distance but encouraged by the time limit being broad enough so that I could probably complete with sensible training.
Hippo - When you say that there are parts you can't run unless your a fell runner? Are these the bits that mortals walk or do you mean that unless your a proper fell runner there is no point entering? Forgive me as probably a stupid question.
Just thought-Hull's been postponed-now have a free weekend. If you enter this Hippo, let me know. May have to work on the family though. It can't be as wet as last year can it?
May actually have run too fst along that but I was feeling like we needed to make the most of the runnable bits. I recall running over bits previously thought unrunnable too!!
Right well-its either this or the 50 miler let on all decide for me
Danny--the fell runners run up and down the bits thati would think of as mountainous and they run through the bogs but there are flat running bits-and the 12 hour cutoff would be ok for most people, but probably not a Hippo
Depends on your definition of 'Running'. The leading athletes run the vast majority of the way, that's why the record is 4hrs 42mins. For normal people about 80% is 'runnable' if you accept that a jog is running. The biggest problem the majority of first timers encounter is pacing. The danger is that you set out too fast over the first 10-15miles and over-stretch yourself. It is better to set off slower and then increase pace later (if you still can). Me; I'll stick to support and the car.
That would be Sharon and Kendra though wouldn't it Bryan? They also know the route very well-I didn't run up to Lila cross cos I had a job spotting any route at all up there!!

I may book a weeks leave over half term
I been around but very busy
I am defo for the Lyke Wake I think
Are you doing 50 mile challenge this year?
cant do both
...I seem to remember the deal with Haggis and Juicer was that we would RUN as much of this as possible...
...and I don't take a liberal attitude to "can't eat during races", as certain forumites will testify...
Hippo, I shall carry the Pringles )

Off to get some fell-shoes today.
Can't wait to see your new shoes Vrap... bring 'em round on Monday. I can feel a shopping trip coming on...

...yellow :oS~
But they are very comfortable. Just wondering how long it will be before Kevin the Teenager swipes the laces.
Juicer, surely you mean run 15 mins, walk 5 if you're doing it with the Haggis ;o)
After all, we've got to try and get away from the 'little people'
Seriously, I'd like to do this one, no doubt V-rap will fill you in.
See you soon
All the same!!
<<<< You two probably guessed what/WHO I'm referring to!>>>>

I still think I am too slow
(
Pink would have been more subdued than what I've got, and it would've matched my new running kit perfectly.

There are some very runnable bits too.
the disuused railway for one

Its only the thought of the walking (and the 12 hour time limit) that makes me think (crazily) that I can do this...
Bryan - is there a website for this race? I can't find one.

and thats the other thing
its on the bottom crease of TWO OS maps
Bryan does a very good description of the route
