Evenin' folks, I PB'd Dewsbury last year (40.59), but then heard a nasty rumour that the course was a little shy of 10k, can anyone with one of them satellite thingys confirm this? Great run however.
no never again - I did it last year and hated it! Thonk it was partly me though, done other small, hilly 10k's since and enjoyed them - think I just hadn't realised how hilly it would be and how much faster than me my husband, friend and non-running friend would be!
Used to live in Huddersfield and would be keen to go back though have heard it's hard work!! Did dews last year in 64 so wanting to knock off at least 4 secs!
afe, not arrived yet, but news article posted yesterday on the club website says:
Message from the Race Director.
We are now sending out the numbers and ChampionChips.
This year we are having ChampionChip timing to give you an exact time from your crossing the start to crossing the finish. We only get the chips just over 2 weeks before the race.
Don't panic if you haven't got your number yet. ...
yeah quite crowded. Was a bit of a bottle neck for a few 100m. A few traffic calming thingys to slow you down at the start. However, last year male counterparts were warned that the bollards in the town centre are just at the wrong height....
I did this back in 2001. In fact that was my last competitive running race. I did 36.30 (18.20 halfway) which is still technically my pb.
The course is very gentle. I remember a bit of bunching at the start but only for the first 15-20 seconds. I also remember the marshalls shouting out 'bollards' after about 200m.
I'm looking to go under 35.00 this time, even if only by 1 second. 34.xx would be very nice. So I hope its a calmish day.
Hello,im doing the Dewsbury 10k.It will be my very first and im worried that im going to find it hard...the race is less then 2 weeks away and ive only been running 3 weeks ! I have plodded/jogged 3 mile twice in around 33 mins.Im going out tomorrow planning to run...well jog 4/5 mile ! Does anyone have any idea what time the last person finished last year....Is it going to be me this year??? LOL !
Miss B. 3 miles in 33 minutes is perfectly repectable. Especially as you have only been running 3 weeks. It took me about 3 months to get to that distance!
Last years last finisher was around 1.5 hours so i'm sure you'll be fine. Anyway, coming last is no big deal, i know from experience!
Be careful not to overdo it. Going from 3 miles to 5 is a big jump. 2 weeks is too little time to make a difference anyway.
Enjoy the race and take it sensibly. Good luck and see you there.
I agree with elephant feet, crossing the line towards the back of 'the pack' is fine with plenty of encouragement from spectators. The secret is to start well back and settle into a relaxed pace, don't be tempted to run faster than you are used to. Being largly flat, Dewsbury is a fantastic course for your first one. Good luck.
Hi Miss B... no worries. As long as you enjoy the run it doesn't matter where you finish. There's a lot of support along most of the route. On the way back it's all downhill too. Last year though by the time I got to the water station they'd run out of water and also I ended up with a huge t-shirt (yet another one to decorate in!!). Let me know your number (when you get it) and I'll look out for you.
I don't know Dewsbury but someone who does will no doubt reply in a bit telling you exactly... but from last year you run in a straight line down a main road with loads of furniture outlets on and then you turn around come back and finish in the town centre.

I've just entered this one and desperately hoping to fulfil my NYR...to get sub 60! Fingers crossed
Jez - that's a win/win situation.
I'm also looking for a sub 60 RH. Did it last year in 60.35.

1. Go under 40 minutes
2. Go over the bollards
....mine's a Guinness!!
That's where I do the majority of my FLM training!
So, if anyone sees me running on Bradford Road in Dewsbury/Batley don't phone an ambulance - I'm training for the FLM!!
