I'll be there, but sadly was too late to get a place. Was cycling around it yesterday and the conditions were perfect. Less wind than there usually is. I'll give you a shout!
Ooooh exciting! Still haven't done that 1st marathon (last year a bit of a disaster, starting with this being cancelled!) so will definitely be joining up for this one once I've proved to myself I can run 10 miles again. Hurray hurray hurray!!!! See you at the back somewhere
Just seen that Leicester Marathon date has been announced as the same day as this one this year. Shame, I enjoyed that last year. The event was made up of so many people who's first choice was Abingdon. I hope that Leicester doesnt suffer as a result of this one being back on the calendar
Today was Simply so perfect Today we headed for Wokingham HM, it was to be our 161 ST HM together,
The weather was just so perfect, little did i know just how perfect the day would end up being... we met friends, had lots of laughs with people,
I knew today we could NOT race as race, as we have Draycote FM of 5 laps next week, so we set about hoping for anywhere around 2 hours or just under...
things started off just nice and quiet, could'nt move for 2 miles or so, which completely suited me, but i was to find gaps and soon get into my grove, and find what i am good at and enjoy doing.. i felt so happy, i felt free
it was very short lived though sadly, before we knew it we were through half way, never really noticing anything pace or distance wise, it was another day were we could have gone on and conquered 20 miles
trying to support fellow runners etc
i knew in our early days together we were clocking for HM's 1.43 onwards, but i really thought that that had gone now, what with Phillip being 6 years older and heavier, and of course me being an old git now
so, we smelt the finish in the distance, we pushed on remembering every time we picked up pace we had a FM next week, so i held back best i could
we eventually crossed the line on our watch at around 1 hour 48 mins , i knew we crossed the start line on about 4 plus mins, and the finish clock was on 1.52 , so yes
i felt so good, so really good, could'nt quite believe what i'd done
We went back to about 2 mile mark ish, cheering runners in, it was good to help others,
it's left me feeling just on top of the world again
Would really like to enter this but a bit worried about the bit that says "course support for 5 hours". I need at least 5.30 for a marathon! Does anyone know if this is a problem or do they provide an early start? I'm sure on a previous year it was a 6 hour course.
I don't know what's come over me as I always said I wasn't bothered about doing a marathon, my goal since starting to run (June 2007) has been to do a half. I have signed up for the White Horse half in April and hope to do another local half in July.
After signing up to the Fetch website and reading everyone's blogs, race reports etc I feel the urge to do a marathon - aghhh what's happening to me, I really have caught the running bug!!
Mind you, my training is going well and I feel so much fitter and stronger now I have run 10 miles before and found it easy so I suppose it's just a confidence thing.
I'm tempted to just sign up and not think about it anymore before I change my mind again.
Nice to talk to you again. I know it's a big difference between a half and a marathon but my thinking is that if I just go for it and sign up there's no turning back and I will be even more focused and probably train harder - that's what I was thinking anyway.
I reckon 7 months to prepare for it is enough for me, especially as I've signed up for 1000 miles in 2008! I'm happy to put in the training for it so I'm gonna go for it tomorrow after I've persuaded my husband to do it with me. He got rejected for the FLM this year and couldn't get in through the charities so he's very disappointed - this might just gee him up again and give him something to kick start him again!!!

Hi Nick
we are about to launch our brand new website, just days away
Would really like to enter this but a bit worried about the bit that says "course support for 5 hours". I need at least 5.30 for a marathon! Does anyone know if this is a problem or do they provide an early start? I'm sure on a previous year it was a 6 hour course.
