No, Toby - Not entered yet. Did my 1st 5miler on Sunday in 45.12, which I was quite pleased about so was gonna try a long slow plod this coming Sunday and then decide whether or not to enter.
Mark - I also saw that the race is full so I sent off an e-mail to the director to see if I could get a cancellation place.Turns out that it isn't actually full - just a problem on RW site, which they are trying to sort out.
However, this has given me the kick up the @rse that I needed so am gonna sent in my entry by post as soon as I get home

Thanks Toby. Starting to get the wibbles already, tho. Guess I should try to run the distance sometime between now and then, just to make sure I can do it
BTW - Any advice from anyone regarding use or not of energy drinks/gels during a half will be most appreciated.
Run 10 miles. No need to run the lot before hand. The atmossphere on the day will drive you for those last few miles. Never ran a half without gels. I have one at 0 and 7 miles. But who knows. Just dont go off fast Doug
I've never used gels on a half - I took 4 for the New Forest Marathon and only had 3 on route. If you decide to give them a go make sure you train with them to make sure there are no side effects! They'd never really appealed before as they generally make me feel like I need to be sick. The ones I ended up using were the SIS Isotonic gels which were great as don't need to take extra water wtih them and they tasted all right- not sure if they made any difference though.
Nice big bowl of porridge for me and that normally keeps me going!
I must admit I'm getting hooked with this running thing, I'm out every day what ever the weather and have a place in the FLM so things have got a little serious now. I must admit I'm finding that getting the long training runs in are very difficult at the moment and I seem to be sticking to 6-7 miles a day, I suppose the training plan will come into its own in a few weeks time.
I think it depends what level and how seriously your going to take it re: gels. Its a personal choice and no right/wrong answer. No harm in taking them. They say take every 20 minutes on some of the packets! thats just crazy?!
Sport Beans really are brill, as someone aptly described in a previous forum, Gels are like phlegm! Don't try them on race day for the first time, make sure you try them on a training run first, that way the rest of us won't slip on the carrots!
Sounds pretty serious! did you get a place through the ballot? how old are you and where you live? What time did you get in the margate?
I had a golden bond place for seafarers then got a confirmation on the Ballot so was vary happy. I'm 35 and did the Margate in 1hr54, as it was my first and consider myself a vary "new runner" I was chuffed with the time. I feel I would knock a good 10-15 minutes off that now though. I live in Kent.

i did new forest in 1.49 so i think for this i would hope to maybe get sub 1.46.
actually sod it i'm gonna win in a course record of 59mins
Doug you are probably too late, its full already! i entered on the day last year, glad I didn't leave it any later!
PDF of the course is here, can't quite decipher it but I won't worry too much about that, I will just follow the herd in front.
No topography I'm afraid Toby, there could be couple of 6" curbs to spoil the flatness

Got my number on Saturday

can anyone shed any light on the route. I checked the map but can't work out is it multi lap or once round....?
Oh and SIS gels for me - 2 or 3 max for a half
I used sport beans on the Royal Parks Half and they were great - can let them dissolve under your tongue while on the run.
Hoping to con hubby into doing this one with me as its a bit of a way from home in London.
Course looks great - I love a day by the sea and running a half means eating fish & chips after!
Gels for a half maybe 1 but often none.
I have no number yet but then it is far enough away not to worry.
What shape I will be in is an interesting one as it is just after my winter break.
did 10 miles yesterday in 1.19 so hopefully looking good for a new PB of sub 1.46
Its all about the PB! Good luck Paynoss! Were all going for them
Abcollings! mind over matter, you can defro do it
ANYONE OUT THERE GOING FOR LESS THAT 1.35?????????????? I WANT A RUNNING BUDDY ON THE DAY
It's one lap and it's flat.
