I was working towards signing up for a team, prob 2cnds or 3rds. Playing on a Monday night with some mates on astro pitch. Thought it would be a good partnership with the running. Alas it was not. Its a old injury, Im prone to it, but being fitter than I have been for many years thought it would be ok. Warmed up ok etc, but it happened 1 week. The following week made it far worse, and running is down t zero miles this week as walking is painful. Good job Im not running any races until next March!
Running forwards is better than twisting and sprinting it would seem lol
Mind you, not with the ankle the way it is right now!
Sooo, anyone fancies a nice easy run up Pen-y-fan then on Wednesday late morning? It won't be fast or furious, as I still am recovering from my torn ligament, just some pre-christmas fun in the snow, well, we live in hope re the snow, none here right now...
I wont be running at all this xmas which is a shame but hopefully mid January start again. Will prob miss Cardiff 10k in March but aim to be fit and ready for anything by June!
No Im not doing Llanelli half still dtruggling with groin strain. Back up to 5 miles, but knackered groin in circuits last night so put off long run tomorrow i.e 5 miles to Friday with weights tomorrow instead.
How is everyone here then? See some of you in Pembs races throughout the year. But I wont know what anyone looks like! lol
not doing races in cardiff, yet, but am later on this year...doing the addidas half in march, the dunsfold ten km in april and berlin...marathon...in september, i wanna do the cardiff marathon too...
There's a few 10K's coming up in Cardiff, I think 1 around St Davids Day.
There are FREE weekly 5K time trials in Cardiff too.
The last Cardiff Marathon was in Oct 2006, I'm not sure if there is the will to host another 1. The last organiser of it (Barnardos) now seems content just to go with the Cardiff Half.
M - I have never done a half before, so a definate PB! Took the same philosophy when I did a very hilly first Marathon. Subsequent attempts can only get better.
I think I'll go for road shoes unless it is p.....ing down.
Im hoping and praying that my running gets better again in time for Cardiff 10k, but we'll see, groin injury still proving a problem! Good luck to those at Forrest of Dean! Sounds a good race let me know how it goes.
daymion - I always use road shoes for the FODean Half Mara. You could go for trail (but nothing more 'off-roady' than that) as most of the trail is always in pretty good shape and very well maintained, even when it is very wet (aka last year's race)
daz mentions the free weekly Cardiff 5 races - every Saturday on the T.Trail, 9am start by Tescos Extra. Full details are here Park Run. They are getting very popular and are supported and organised by Les Croupiers - the race on the 21st Feb is going to be extra special so please try and make it ! Its the first anniversary of the Park Run races in Cardiff. We may lay on some treats...
Hiya, Is anyone planning to do or even heard of the Man V Horse race In LLanwrtyd Wells, Powys. Its 22 miles of hills and mud and its great fun. Just started training again after having a few years off and wondered if anybody else was thinking of doing it.
Was going to do Llanelli as part of my build up for Stratford, but brother's stag do in Cardif the night before. Don't think the two would be compatible.
I did it last year Linsey and loved it, a great race, but not quite a fell race, to the extent that the course is fully marked, so nav required, and the terrain over which it goes is quite tame really. More of a cross between a trail and fell race, I'd say! But... you get a medal at the end, which is cool
Don't think I shall do it this year, as I am foucssing on racing the bike in stead because I damaged my ankle ligaments irrepareably doing the OMM last year...
Don't be put off by the NHS advice, it's understandably not sympathetic to sporting injuries! I was once told to take up painting rather than sport when I tore my cruciate ligaments. Find the right strengthening exercises and you'll get there.
I'm sure if you were Shane Williams they would have you back on your feet in no time!

Thanks OFT - Much appreciated and as I thought.
Linsey - Fancy the Man v Horse, sounds good fun.
Some people run PB's during Man v. Horse too
