Help? what is the weather like at the race area as i am trying to decide whether to set off from Middlesbrough area today (saturday) and is the race still on? I would be cheesed off if the race was cancelled after getting there!
Hi - I just looked on ukresults.net & nothing there to suggest a cancellation of the race. I also ooked on multimap for a weather report of Catforth for tomorrow & it shows light snow with temperatures between a minimum of -4 & a maximum of 0.
Totally agree - I think the problems may lie with the travelling! I guess time will tell
There has been a 6 car pile up on the m6 near orrell due to the snow and the bbc is reporting hazadous driving conditions on all the motorways in the area due to the weather. Looks like they havent been grited again.
Hello. I was planning on running tomorrow but live in Durham and am essentially snowed in and do not want to dig myself out and then try to cross the pennines tomorrow morning. I have been emailing the email address link but have had no reply. Does anyone know someone I can contact to see if I can defer my entry? Thanks
I wonder what`ll happen. If it does go ahead, I reckon it`ll be a low turnout for sure. We came over from Sheffield yesterday. Today there`s lots of snow in Sheff so I doubt we`d have come tbh.
As a result of the continuing freezing conditions and with more freezing forecast tonight, this race is postponed.
I have met with the race organiser this afternoon and in making my decision I have considered the safety of competitors as the priority. There are many parts of the course with large patches of solid ice on them. This poses a danger, not only to runners but also to motorists who may be on the course.
This decision has not been taken lightly and I am disappointed to have to postpone the race.
I can fully understand the disapointment many of you will feel but hope you will appreciate I have made the call purely on safety grounds.
It is hoped the race can be staged towards the end of January or early February, depending on other fixtures.
A shame the weather has turned nasty again, I had thought it might have been possible to run before this last period of heavy snow and I'm sure it will be worse tomorrow after it all freezes solid overnight (forecast as well below zero)
Look forward to the re-arranged date as soon as you have details of it.
Again cheers for the info and a great shame as this was gonna be my 1st half but having seen the weather in Bury today I fully understand the decision!!
Please dont have the new fixture date clash with the four-village half in a few weeks!!
Thanks for the info Brian, perhaps its a blessing in disguise.
Hadnt done much training for this with the bad weather, but nevertheless was still looking forward to this race. At least its only postponed and not cancelled full stop.
I,ve just got back from Catforth as i decided yesterday morning to travel for this race as i had no reply to 2 emails asking if the event was still on - the last one sent on saturday morning. The irony for me is that i have just driven over the pennines and back (250miles rtn) thru loads of snow & ice only see next to no snow at the race area! Yes it was cold & icy but it was on satuday morning so why leave it so late to postpone? Also why have an email contact and not answer it? There is no oganisers web page or even a Phone Number to ring which is pathetic in this day and age!
I know it's a thankless task organising things but good communications shouldn' be hard to do!
How about a temporary facebook/twitter page or even an answering machine saying that the event may be postponed/cancelled with the descision made at a certain time! (like a pitch inspection).

Thanks Karen
Supposed to be snow free tomorrow but thats no help if we cant get there
