Sheesh, I leave you lot alone for a couple of days and you all take up darts????
Blimey Relaxed really sorry to hear about the car accident. Glad you're relatively okay but even so....
Tons of luck to your daughter in Edinburgh
Vik, no problem, here you go
Kim really glad to see you belted your Silverstone demons and trod on them. Lovely to see you and Rod again on Tuesday
Pinks, hope your work's been less hellish for the rest of the week
Right I'm off. Two days of working on the food festival, couldn't sleep a wink last night from fretting about all the things that might go wrong, or more to the point might have gone wrong overnight. May as well get down there early.
Morning! Sorry not been on much but work has had me chained to the office. Finally feel making progress and as daughter home for a couple of days I took the afternoon off and took her to London - had a little shop and a wander and then met hubby from work and went for dinner at The Bleeding Heart which was fantastic.
I have at least run or exercised most days this week (it was a must to keep me sane and de-frazzle from the work scenario!!!) and off for an 8 miler with Mandy in a minute.
Well I've run 4 miles, done the timer at the parkrun, learnt how to do the results and now I'm having a little break before taking A to tap and heading off to take the monster-in-law shopping. She wants to go to Ikea to get a new linen basket - this could be interesting
Bridget that sounds like you know how to enjoy yourself, I hope the linen basket buying has gone well!
Pinks hope your 8 miler has gone well too.
have been and checked out my 10 mile leg for tomorrows "Hilly Hundred" road relay, oh heck there are some hills too but I can only do my best, I am leg 3 due to start around 7.45, I need to get my vehicle to the end of my leg and get a lift back to the start of it so It is up at 5.30 for me!
happy running one and all Hash i hope today has gone ok
Ikea.... on a Saturday??? Are you INSANE?? You're certainly a braver woman than me, Bridget. We went once on a Sunday and now visits are strictly restricted to after work on a week day. It's hell on earth at weekends.
Hope your foodie weekend is going well Hash and that you're not to stressed out. What's your involvement? Are you on a stall or organising the whole thing?
Pinks - Just sent you the lemon souffle and focaccia recipes. Sorry it took so long. I'm useless!! Good to hear you had a nice afternoon off with daughter and hubbie yesterday.
Sorry to hear about your dead car Relaxed. I know exactly how it feels (the other guy got done for driving with no insurance or license AND fleeing the scene of an accident... tosser!), but as the others have said at the end of the day it's you who's irreplacable. Hope that the aches and pain get better very soon. Lots of luck to your daughter for tomorrow. Hope it's not too warm for her.
Went out and did 6 miles this morning at 06:30. The furthest I've run since VLM is 7 miles. Feels utterly pathetic, but I think my head's gone at the moment and I just want to stop after a couple of miles. I'm hoping it'll sort itself out if I ignore it for a bit
Had a very productive day cleaning out the mess that is our back yard and making it nice so we can sit out and enjoy a BBQ & our garden. It was full of old car wheels, a knackered greenhouse and general DIY waste this morning and this afternoon it looks fantastic. Hurrah!! Unfortunately, my complete idiot of a neighbour decided to spray his fence this afternoon and sprayed my washing so now I have 1 ruined duvet, 2 ruined work shirts and several ruined t-shirts. Thank god my VLM top wasn't on the line... Fetch one was ruined though Anyway, he's said he'll "treat" us to a new duvet... I said that it's actually more than a duvet and I'll give him a list later to cover what's unwearable just in case he thinks he can forget it. Prat!!!
Anyway, BBQ in a bit. Hope everyone is having a lovely sunny day
Had a lovely day in the garden, nearly got all the weeds out and OH did a great job on the BBQ. I'm stuffed, think I will have to be rolled up the stairs.
Bridget - hope IKEA wasn't too busy. I'm with Lostkat and only go on a week night after work. Ours isn't the same since they let you take your trollly to the car. I could spend hours in the car pick up area watching people trying to get a dinning room table into a Fiat Punto. Do they forget what car they came in as they are walking round?
I've gone back to wearing heals at work and they have given me blisters on the balls of both feet. Not very happy and as much as I want to go out for a run, I don't want to make them worse.
Rod - good luck for your relay leg and Hash, hope your food festival is going ok.
Ikea at 4.30 really wasn't crowded at all (I think there was some football on). However she didn't like what was on offer so our original offer to take her to John Lewis in Solihull is back on for next time. She thought Coventry would be easier for us!
I do have a pack of freezer bag clips, 2 fleece throws for the kids camping at £2.99 each , a couple of flatpack cardboard boxes and a milk frother (97p) though
Hi all its warming up now, bridget Ikea in Coventry V John Lewis in Solihull, I have visited both, no Disrespect to the yellow and blue store but..............
My Hilly 100 leg was I reckon the hardest thing I have ever done running wise, it was an early leg but after 5 miles it was very hot, the distance was 9.76 miles done in 1.27.44 av 8.59, am I dissappointed?
Well sort of but this was a challenge and some of those hills were "proper" I am not a huge fan of hills but this helped no end miles 5 to 7.5 were the tough ones (Garmin was set to 4 x 2.5 mil;e sections) I had to stop maybe 4 times and at one point told my team support I didn't think I could do it, they of course told me I could and I carried on.
These are the runs that toughen you up, I'm back home now feeling good and that maybe it wasn't so hard, trouble is you don't think that when all you can see is an upward section and the sun beats down on you.
Team support was important on this the water helped I had no gels and just a couple of jelly babies.
Good thing is I will now be ready for Corby on Wednesday only a 5 miler hilly yes but it surely can't be as hard as this was.
Rod you did BRILLIANTLY - give yourself a well earned pat on the back!! The conditions out there are really not in favour of runners and don't forget VLM was less than a month ago!! FAB running from you - well done!
Thanks Pinks I am hard on myself sometimes, I do forget I am not in the "first flushes of youth" either, what I was slightly miffed about is the fact that the runner I was due to hand the baton over too was not ready! He had left his running shoes at home and had to go back, unbelievable
Still that as they say is Life, one of Stratford AC;s ladies who was doing really well on leg 2 managed to take a wrong turn and get lost (this is a no marshall event, you should have a team captain to wait at the junctions, there are arrows to point you in the right direction and most people drive the route before they run it)
Hash when you read back I hope you have had a succesfull event at Letchworth and are not too worn out!
Well done Rod, sounds like a real tough one. The heat out there was a real killer today. Couldn't believe how slow I was and how high my heart rate was. Managed 7 miles with walk breaks and a nice sit in the shade for 5 mins!
Thanks for the kind comments, I went over to Stratford to see the end of the race and support our club, there had been a couple of casualties and it was generally accepted that it was tough out there so I can be happy in the fact I finished in a reasonable time and without conking out!
Still this is England so no doubt this weather won't last sorry folks
That went okay then Lostkat I was organising it, but the less sexy end - portaloos, risk assessments, road closure orders, traffic management, stuff like that. They did let me loose on the website stuff though, and the twitter feed is me. It's really odd, I bang on here and on Facebook all the time, but don't really get Twitter, never have. Anyway, job done, and looks like it's going to be an annual thing, so all in all a success.
Pinks, glad you got to make a bit of progresson the work front and here's to a calmer week for both of us
Bridget, well done for surviving the MiL and Ikea in one go Looks like it's going to cool down later in the week, so much more 20 mile weather than today
Briliantly wel done Rod. I thought of you at 8am yesterday morning when it was already stonkingly hot. Fantastic time in heat and hills, great stuff mate
Got a day off to recover, and picking up a little birthday pressie from me to me. There's a new man in my life. His name is Harley
well done Rod. What an awful day for a race - especially a long one. I hope those that did Stratford and Edinburgh are ok (I know one man has died at Edinburgh)
Nice Bike Hash, Rio as I read these posts I realise that it was maybe a tough old day and I shouldn't be beating myself up, it was only about 22 or 23 when I finished it got up to about 30 later by all accounts, at no point did I feel I was going to keel over, I think it was those hills, need to do more !
22 or 23 is still fecking hot tough Rod, I really think if you add that and hills then it made for a hard hot hilly run.
Rio/anyone, got a bike question. Harley has been collected, and after some initial wobbling he got me home. I was getting a bit more confident towards the end, even managed to get my feet into the straps on the pedals. Looking over my shoulder to see what was behind me took some doing though, not to mention actually moving my hands down to brake. Maybe save the duathlon entry for when I've got a bit more experience
Anyway, the question. Blouse also got himself a bike, as yet un-named. He found it a major pain in the bum - literally! Okay so he's not used to a racing saddle, and I must admit it was a bit of a new experience for me to, but it was really cutting him in half. Any suggestions?
Fantastic to Rod well done a real hot one. I just had two barbecues over the weekend and ate and drank a wee bit...........
Wow Hash seriously jealous. I have been looking at the compact Trek all carbon bike. Did you get a good price for Harley.....? I am still looking and counting the pennies.........
Wow its hot here in Bakewell today? Enjoy it wont last I am sure..........did anyone survive running further than 7 miles yesterday? My OH ran 4 miles in the early am but came back shattered.
Padded shorts or bib shorts work for me with the cutting in half thing. Though I have had my kids so not too worried about my prostate and other areas. Cyclists can be affected by too much riding on the bike when it comes to the bedroom department. Sorry not wishing to be crude........its a fact.

Everyone else - have fun in the sun!
Hi to everyone else and hope all are well - bit of a flying visit from me!!
Happy hot running everyone. Can't believe how warm its been today. 32C in the Lancashire hills!
Glad I'm not doing the Edinburgh marathon tomorrow, not looking forward to doing a gentle 8 miles in this heat, couldn't contemplate 26.

Rod how much do you reckon for Blouse, and shall I auction him or do a buy-it-now?
