Shielsy i hope you logged that sprint in your training diary
Didn't think of that.
Have came into work so at least I have internet access for the next couple of hours (never thought I'd be happy to have to work at the weekend ). But I've just checked my work's diary and realised that I'm working the weekend of the Brass Monkey . Honest to God, after the palaver of logging into runbritain in the first place - Fate just hates my guts! Fingers crossed that I'm able to arrange a swap with a kind colleague before then.
Was expecting to have missed out, but just had my entry accepted at 1.10pm. Done 92 halves but never this one, although I did do the 'Great York Run' half marathon from York racecourse in 1993, don't know if it is the same course? Looking forward to this one!
Shaggy.. I'm old enough to have run the old Yorkie half (1994). The course doesn't really have any similarity to the BM apart from the fact I remember finishing at the racecourse back then. The Yorkie course went along some of the main shopping streets as I remember - at one point I thought we were going to be directed through Woolworths!
The BM route starts at the back of the racecourse, heads down through Bishopthorpe & across Acaster Airfield towards Acaster Selby. Turn right towards Appleton Roebuck village, from here the route loops back towards the finish through Bishopthorpe again. map of course
I am in looking forward to it never done this race before!
I did get in this morning but only just got on the forum! If it still open now seems like anyone who knew about it and wanted to do could do if it has been open all morning.
I've just entered this for January - it will be my first half marathon and I'm really looking forward to it as its so local...I just hope I'm not too slow! Given that everyone raves that its a fast and flat course, I'm hoping it's a good choice for my first half!
I'm in too - was sat at the laptop nice and early this morning - thought the website might crash first thing but it didn't.
Hope to start the new year off with a good one at this race. Club winter hills/speed programme plus some longer stuff and races up to mid december should help with a nice base.
Ali.. the entry system closes when the limit is reached, no-one will have gained entry after that. One of my (fast) clubmates missed out too - he thought it would take at least a full day to fill up!
Thanks for the map Wardi, the course looks quite rural & different to the Yorkie half. I also did the '94 race in about 1.31, i remember a sprint finish with a guy in a gorilla suit, think we used to get a Yorkie bar at the finish (in addition to T-shirt). Seem to remember the shopping centre, think a lot of city races disappeared in the mid 90's after Sunday shopping was introduced - used to have the shopping streets to ourselves before then!
I missed out too got in from work and it was all over before I made the line. If anyone drops out and needs a home for a entry Im up for it 2 would be nice but 1 will do. Ive booked leave to drive up and back from Portsmouth area so If the nasty thing happens remember me.
Dickie.. in previous years they have had a strict 'no number exchanges' policy so I wouldn't hold your breath. I still have last year's entry form which says 'numbers and chips are non-transferable'.
Bad luck on missing out, aren't there any half-maras closer to home for you?
Theres plenty of halfs down here but I fancied one in my home county. Thanks for the info though. Its just a pity that it was open whilst I was at work not to worry if they have a no transfer policy Ill have to try again next year. If it had opened at 4 in the morning I could have been one of the first to enter
Another reason for running this one was so I could have taken my two sisters 70 and 82 years old to support. They have driven to Edinburgh for the mara to support me in previous years.
Dickie, I have a number that I am trying to sell. I have spoken to the organisers and they are willing to transfer the number. Let me know if you would like it.
Does anyone know if it is possible to email someone on the forum without openly giving your email address?
Dipsy - probably a bit late now but if you use the 'mail member' function your email address isn't revealed.
How's everyone managing their training in the weather then? I was doing well - though had to resort to the treadie for the best part of a week - until last week when I was struck down by a lurgy. On the road to recovery now but can only do easy miles as whilst RHR is fine it's rising alarmingly if I try to push it.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
