peteW....wait for me i need to do some weight training /hills too !!!!
oo yes helly, i know about the 'steps' and ive seen pictures....trying to prepare myself...someone told me i will feel like ive been in a fight by the time the steps are done.....woohoo...its gonna be a fun one
Hi Mr K I think it does sell out but not really early. It was however featured in the RW lists of popular scenic marathons so may go quicker this year.
Every year since 2008 cos it's one of my favourites. There was a bit of a kerfuffle last year as Salomon unexpectedly replaced the (really rather nice) tech shirts with bog standard t-shirts - disappointing , but I don't run this race for what I get at the end.
I'm signed up for this Like Loula I'm doing the North Downs 50 and am using this as part of my training, tagged on the end of our camping holiday in the area.
The graphs are seriously scary. I'm training on woodland trails, but I live just north of Londond and there are no hills like that in this region at all. Oh well, i shall have fun looking at the scenery.

Hope to see you there.
i agree Helly, im not fussed about what you recieve at the end-the satisfaction of finishing is my prize
Hi Trippr, there's plenty of parking at the finish and when I did it before they took us to the start by bus so don't worry. It's a lovely route with fabulous views
Yay, well done Trippr, that's a great time for a first marathon! I did the first 2 Brighton marathons but I couldn't make it work into my schedule this year - I've entered for next year though.
I'm always about 30 minutes slower on trail marathons but then I'm a slow runner anyway so probably not the best person to comment. Just try to do some of your long runs off-road so you get used to the difference in terrain. A lot depends on the weather as well. When I ran this in 2007 it poured with rain for the first 1/2 and then the sun came out and baked me for the second half!
Sean - I wear trail shoes (Adidas Kanadia at the moment) for running stuff like Hellrunner, Turbo X, Grim, etc, or if I'm running on sandy paths in the wet around my local forest, but if it's basically grass paths then I agree with you, comfort trumps style & grip, especially over such long distances.
Mrs Chillies & I drove down to Arundel today for a stroll and to check out the terrain around Slinden College. Looks like a beautiful place for a little run
You haven't wasted the money Trippr because you will like trail running so much that you'll want to do it in autumn or winter when you might need those shoes. Or it might just rain for the week beforehand giving you some chalky mud to slide around in

I better start doing some squats, get some strength into my legs...

Great graphs Sean.
Oh by the way loulabell NDW50 also has STEPS!
Nice pics
Does the Marathon event sell out?

hi chilli!!! im stalking yoooooooo.......chili, i have NO woody/trail things. i am going to have to get visiting Blenheim and Waddesdon regularly...
i agree Helly, im not fussed about what you recieve at the end-the satisfaction of finishing is my prizeThe shirts really were nice, well-fitted and you still see a lot of people running in them but not the be all and end all.
I live in norf london so not ideal for hill training.
<waves to Limper> Are you running it this year?
Thinking of doing this. Just done Brighton and itching to do another.
If i was to drive is it easy to park? Do they offer a park and ride becuase the finish is 26 miles from the start?
Thanks
Thanks Redhead..
I do enjoy a good hill or two.
My first marathon I did on Sunday (Brighton) in just under 4hrs. What's a realistic time to aim for here?
Ta

I've also entered Brighton for next year. I enjoyed it that much!!
I'm going to need to invest in some off-road shoes.
I won't be aiming for an amazing time, just enjoy the views, hills and get round.
I'm in. It might be a bit of a leisurely trot as I haven't run much beyond 13.1 since Abingdon Mara in October. Today's 16 miler shrank by 25%.
Does anyone who has done this one before have any recommendations re:
1 Hotels in Arundel, and
2 Trail or Road shoes?
Without a doubt, road shoes. I have even ran it in lightwieght road shoes.
Trail shoes are not needed, its all pretty decent under foot. One or two wet/muddy bits and rocky bits. But generally good.
Ah! Just got back in from buying some Trail shoes! Should of looked here first.
Does anyone do this in Trail shoes? Have I just wasted some money?
Just entered anyway - no turning back now!
Trippr - you'll just have to find some trails to run on
Thanks Sean for the heads up on that
Some do wear trail shoes but personally I have never found a pair of trail shoes that feel more comfortable than road shoes.
Again, personally, if the terrain is suitable for trial shoes then it is suitable for road shoes IMHO.

Are they hardcore trail or hybrids?
I actually went out the day after I bought them and really enjoyed it. Only problem being is I don't know enough off-road routes
I got the Adidas Kanadia TR 4's not sure if they're hybrids or not?
I did run around 1.5 miles on the road with them to get to and from the trail route.
