unfortunately I won't be there on the 24th as I am out of the country... sunnier climbs for warm weather training! However, there will be another sport scientist who will continue on the work that has been started by myself, then Wendy.

we will have the reports from all your diet sheets before then so bring with you all your questions and we'll get them answered. In the meantime, keep posting anything that comes to mind on here as this is such a cool place. Now that i'm in here its quite addictive!

Day off for me today... I am starting to think the 16 miler took more out of me than I first thought!

    Keep well everyone.

PS If that comment Steve was for me... thanks! I may have some questions of my own soon. Its funny being a physiologist doesn't mean you know everything about getting from A to B quickly. I try of course but I find the beauty of marathon running is that the science becomes an art!

great stuff re getting back to running quicker BBB! You must of felt good getting that session done? A real confidence boost.

I was going to do your 5 x 1M (I'm a week ahead as my mara is the week before London) but I went to my club instead and did 7 x 0.5 Mile.

I think I'm going to mix it up a bit between following a schedule and taking the club sessions... so long as I do the long runs and do some sort of speed I guess it all amounts to the same thing. It'll be interesting at least since I followed Steve's schedule to the letter last summer and it worked! This slightly unstructured approach may or may not work! Be interesting seeing anyway.

How are you mixing club sessions with the schedule BBB? Or have you had your schedule tweaked by Steve

Hello Nigel, Shona here from Lucozade Sport; hope all is going well. I have been trying to keep up to date with all of the super six so have been checking in on a regular basis. I'll be seeing you at the workshop next weekend which will be great fun. Been squeezing in alot of running, I am running with a friend of mine who thinks I can do 3.15 - so I have been following Sue's thread. Although I think 3.15 is rather ambitious......we'll see (early days for us all). Anyway, have a good weekend of running and see you in a week. Shonaimage

6 miles run today with 10 x steap hill sprints included = 60-70 sec sprints

still lacking speed and endurance hoping hill sprints will solve this problem

recovery run tomorrow, then 14 miler sunday bright and early

    steve

will it be ok 2 include these and more hill sprints in my scehdule

    thanks nigel

  • Options

Nigel. it probably isn't too much of a problem this week at this early stage to do extra hill sprints as the training is relatively light.

I appreciate you feel you have some catching up to do but you still need to show some caution until you have a little more endurance base behind you.

It varies a little, but  Friday is fundamentally an easy day and on most weeks it would seem logical to run faster on Thursday and Saturday and if you run too hard Friday too (or run at a speed that may put pressure on the body) then you risk injury and a risk also that you will be too tired to do yourself justice at the weekend, and long term lose fitness.

It may fit better into the training, doing these sprints onto Thursday or Saturday or reducing the hills to about 30 seconds so they are more like strides than intervals.

  • Options

Hey Nigel, seems like you are going OK, but don't be too impatient about the speed, take it steady and don't forget LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!

Keep up the stretching and nutrition, take the 14 mile steady, see you soon.  As for the hills, good to mix them in but knowing your injury, be careful not to pick too steep a hill as it will involve a higher level of hip flexion, which could irritate the problem, so just take care and if you feel any problem adjust your schedule to suit.  Don't forget a training programme is a guide and not set in stone, I'm sure Steve will agree, you can adjust them to suit how you feel at the time with the main point of trying to avoid injury.

Hoping to do a 6-miler myself on Sunday, after a couple hours on the bike.

Keep up the good work all,

    Mike

    Hi steve

Would it be ok to swap my rest day for a day in the week e g monday would be great !

Friday would be a good day for me to run as i have a short shift and this day sometimes would be good for my long runs

    thanks

  • Options

    Hi BBB

Good to hear your 15 miler went well...up and down a mountain...wow. I like the flat so I will be sticking to it.

I'm sure you will be well past me in a month or so. Have you got any 10k's lined up?

My next race is a 10 miler on the Isle of White, then the Bramley 20, Fleet Half and then a few more 10k then the big one...

I swap my rest days about to suit work etc, but normally I swap it from the Friday to Saturday, especially when the longer runs kick in. Also I like the idea of having a lie in on Saturday, not thinking about the run a head.

  • Options

Well done on the long run today, Nigel. Great endurance. Hope you don't get a reaction.

Yes, fine swapping around as long as the swap doesn't mean you do too many hard runs on consecutive days.

    You deserve a rest.

I'll have an easy day myself tomorrow as did Dartford 10 today, and while not flat out, was hard work as windy, hilly and did a tough cross-country day before

MANY THANKS FOR TODAY BBB REALLY ENJOYED

    C U IN THE WEEK

Well done on your run Sunday but you do no that next week s race is a club championship race & i am sure  you can pick up a few scalps mine for 1imagehave a think or better still ask your coach

    Hi Tony ,Bomber

No races lined up quite jet,due to an injury before christmas. i lost a lot of speed and speed work was causing me most of my problems.so i have not entered any races at the moment because i know i will want to race them

The boys will say just take it easy, but that is easier said than done at the moment

Best tip of all listen to your body!

5 miles done today feeling great speed work tomorrow
