Looks like I've entered my first 'proper' fell race on Sunday, looking at the 10m 3100 foot of climbing over un-tracked ground, chuck in some 7 checkpoints and a generally fast field of about 90 - I think I could be straggling this one!
M...eldy - I can vouch for that because after getting washed changed and sorted I mistook a wind/rain swept late competitor for a local! I thought she was running to get out of the rain - she looked at me daft when i asked her for directions. Fair play for them being out in that weather that long!
Kaz - at the beginning of this year's race, the announcer did say that there was a cut off at Waunfawr of 4hrs - a loud gasp from quite a few people greeted this info!!! BUT - looking at the results, unless people spent 3 hours getting back from Waunfawr, this wasn't enforced. Quite strange cosI didn't see anything about a cut-off before the race -??
Hooray!! Signs look promising that I may be able to walk semi-normally by tomorrow!!
sz - Sounds like a pretty challenging fell race, which one is that? local one? I'm too lazy to look back. I've done a few AL's this year for the first time as one of my big challenges for next year is 3 Peaks and needs the qualifiers. Harshest I did was Sedbergh Hills on a rotten day, shame as its like an off-road Snowdon (just shorter and mostly steeper), great scenery and route. I just about made top 2/3rd I think, and day before I'd done the Burnsall straight up and down race and the 10m road race, so legs were pretty mashed.
Have a look DE - I know the area really well as it's my back yard - however the route goes over a lot of ground that i haven't run - http://www.newsar.org.uk/pages/fellrace/clwydianfellrace.htm - i'm looking forward to it and a pint in the White Horse - Cilcain afterwards.
Just been shopping in the new place in Cardiff and discovered a 'sherunsheruns' shop in the basement of a Sports Direct shop. Some bargains on running clothing to be had. The bargains also online at www.sportsdirect.com/running/running-clothing
Hoorah! Hip Hip!!
LM - the achilles story is quite a heart wrenching one at that. I well up inside everytime...but to cut a long story short, over use, injury, fobbed off by doctors. rest, rest, physio, acupuncture, ultrasound, getting better...hoorah!
No, SZ you've got it wrong fell race = survival = many, many pints. Pretty nifty times in the 2008 race, most the field home inside 2 hours! Gotta be a good target.
DE - There's a couple of my club-mates on that list - the fastest was 64th out of 89 - I'd say I'll be 15 - 20 mins slower which will put near the back markers.
Morning UM, the shop is downstairs at Sports Direct in the new St Davids shopping centre. Go in via the John Lewis entrance and walk towards the original St Davids shops, it is on the right opposite a shop called Lab Gear (I think).
CD - This Snowdon I will be mainly drinking wherever you are!
CD - re injury - always a problem, however so is the way I'm refueling since Snowdon! I need to get out running. Also this year for the first time, I'm going to run through the winter instead of 'larding up' So I'll be looking for something else Welsh to do after Sunday's race. Besides, I'm not going for a time in this one - the field is very strong, just an 'experience' race. All this depends on my MRI scan tomorrow, and the result of it.
Little trot out yesterday to get the legs turning over (very warm for the time of year) and track tonight. NSR!
I've been sitting on an ice pack for two days - had a scheduled rest day on Monday and strained my glute by sitting down on it all day. That'll teach me.
All fine today so time to get back into the last two weeks of training for my mammoth 10k. For anyone interested I've been pretty much following the FIRST schedules - you know: RUN LESS RUN FASTER. If you have any feelings at all about the subject, please do write in, it's very important that I hear a rounded discussion about this

Found out it's 10 hours - although there's talk on Fetch about having to be through 20 miles in 4 hours. That doesn't make much sense though!
Tried to enter but got a really odd screen. Will try again when I'm back at work.
