Ok, Calves almost healed, a few pounds of Xmas flub to shift, but been out on the 25th, 26th and gym and treadmill today. Hopefully will be on form and healthy for round 4
If anyone's interested.. GPS maps of the first and 3rd races...
Love that for Datchet...elevation gain and loss a mere 7metres and 5metres
Surprised Handy (no e in Handy Sprint!) has a 30metre + elevation loss..doesn't feel like that when racing...and don't tell people that as otherwise they'll think it's an easy course!
Can't see Reading not being on this sunday...roads are 100% fine now... who's in?
Good work mate. A couple of fast guests came 1st and 2nd today, knocking the normal winner down to 3rd! But come the results they won't count! One of them was wearing a Winchester top
Pleased with 8th..or 6th as per the results . When you come away knowing you've come as high up as you could possibly hope for on a day that's satisfying.
Think I started just in front of you on the left side of the grid, but you had some of your team mates with you, so thought i'd focus on the sprint down that hill start!
ps what's with the k measurements rather than miles?
Although 9k sounds better than my 5.79miles measurement!
It's all relative mate. Us greedy runners only tend to look up the field and wonder how they run so fast.
If you joined my club you'd be our 2nd scorer!
But you're showing a good surge up the positions as you get more used to xc. I bet you recognise a few people ahead of you that you'd roast on the road...just a case of getting used to the constant changes in terrain and gear changes!
One of those deceptively tough courses, despite on the face of it no really tough hills as per Handy Cross. Having half a mile before you even start 2 laps, as well as the 2 laps itself all adds up mentally.
That first lap seemed to go on for ages, and I found that the 2nd lap zoomed by to be honest.
Had an odd race for the last 3miles, pretty much being about 100metres off the guy in front, but having a similar lead over the guy behind!
Shame, as I love sprinting that last hill! Stole about 4 places on it last year.
Tadley next, now that one certainly is a course where you can steal positions if you run it well. First half, glorious easy forest, second half, 2 streams to leap/wade through, and then a mile or so of gruelling muddy hills! Not too steep, but prolonged and taxing!
I did the series last year. (ran for TVT) hope to do some races this year. How many are left? Tadley was my favourite course closely followed by handy cross.
Comments
Sprint, Marlow don't put a race on regrettably.
Unlucky Margarita. We had full teams, but as our main pack of runners are in the 140s+ we will do well to match our 7th/8th traditional placing!
Tidies up the series a little, as it's now all done and dusted on the 6th Feb.
Otherwise we had a ridiculous month gap until the last one, when the last thing anyone would want to do is a cross country in early March
Gives me a slight problemo, as not sure my coach will allow me to do 5 xc races in 6 weeks , followed by a half marathon the week after.
Therefore I think, Reading, Tadley and Finch are my lot.
We've got 6inches of snow, and it's still coming. Gonna trudge out a 3-4miler but it won't be great.

in bed for 9pm, 2 runs tomorrow, and ready to rock on sunday.
Dullard? Me?
Good fun, never a fan of double loop courses.. Should have gone for shorts instead of tights
Happy with 70th, an improvement on my 90th and 89th positions in Datchet and Handey
41.59 - 9km dead on

Pah.. guest making my position look worse too
Well run indeed, you're far too fast!
Started out running on a treadmill, so work in kilometers... the distance also sounds a lot more rewarding!
I know kilo pace, speeds etc... clueless on mile pace!
Next year I'll get me some points

Ah Mighty Mike...I hear we have a mutual pal
4 courses left. Tadley is next up, Finchampstead 23rd, then 2 I probably won't make at Bracknell and Metros the 2 weeks after.
If I did all 4 of these, a club event onthe 16th and the Wokingham half which is scheduled in, on 13th Feb, i'd have 7 races on consec weeks
Obviously got a good squad if 70th was 11th man
Our second guy was over 100th!
Interesting to see the guy who's won 16 of these in a row (actually 2nd at Handy Cross but winner was a guest so counts as 1st), came 5th yesterday.
End of his reign of glory, or just a one off?
I'm really enjoying the series so far, and have scored on 2 of 3 of my races.
Bearwood was the first time I'd run since before Christmas, so legs still very sore. Looking forward to the next one, now I finally have som xc shoes.
