afternoon all..another days work finished...sounds like lots of hugs and get weels are in order for us lot doesnt it?...image((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) xxxxxxx

for all those feeeling poorly or just under the weather...image

....gastank i think you are absolutely justified in taking pics and making sure you are maintaining wht you worked hard to achieve..i think most people involved in sports are. we all like to see positive change in our appearence and theres nothing wrong with tht or having pride in how you look. keep going!! i also do understand the 'DARK SIDE' of training. theres a point where exercise takes a directional turn in regards to effort i think...for some people doing an odd 10k or doing a 4/5 mile ru  as and when they feel like it in only nice weather is as far as it goes. and thats fine. each to their own. but i think on this thread all of us have crossed over to the dark side or are nearly there! lol...by that i agree with gastanks comment on its not an option anymore-its requirement that we do it nw. if its cold, we run. if its rainy, we run. if we are feeling tired, we run. if its a day whn we just plain cant be bothered, we still run. we all push ourselves to test whats there....i reckon thats the darksideimage

! RR - watch that knee, have you had a gait check, personally I've had a few done but really only the specialist running shops deliver, didn't have to much luck at either the high street or even big sports brands.

I had my gait tested at Nike in Oxford Street - there was a treadmill that I had to run on and it was filmed - is that the sort of thing that happens at a specialist running shop?  Nike in Oxford Street isn't a specialist shop of course, but they appear to have a specialist running department.  I've been running for around one and a half years now and, apart from the frequent injuries I picked up at first due to using ordinary trainers, this knee niggle is the first real problem I've had since I started using proper running shoes.

I'm thinking back to that last 9 mile run, the one where I was in the zone so kept on going, despite the stiffness in the knee?  Maybe the fact that I didn't cut that one short when the stiffness cut in has contributed to the current problem.  Either way, in future once I do get this sorted out, if I get any sort of that stiffness again I'm going to cut it short - better do that than potentially make things worse.

As I said before, I've had worse knee problems than this - the sort where you have to 'one-leg' it down the stairs while holding onto the wall - right now, I can walk (and even run) up and down the stairs no problem.

Either way, I hope I get rid of it soon, it'll be really annoying if someone does get me a Nike+ sportsband and I can't use it due to injury!

Lou, will find appropriate pics if possible. I have to be honest and say I'm a little obsessional about taking pics, I know people will see it as weird and vain BUT I use it to keep me in check, remind myself of where I started and what progress I'm making. When you see yourself every day you can't see the week on week and month on month changes, but by recording pics you can look back a few weeks or a month and see what's happening (like when I fell off the wagon last Christmas and had told myself I hadn't gained anything - not true, pics never lie!)

I'm doing exactly the same thing, I'm taking a picture of myself at the end of every month.  Haven't seen any noticeable difference between them yet, but it's only been a couple of months since I started taking the pictures.

I'm definitely getting stronger though - I can do more pressups than before. image

RR, i had my gait analysed in up&running in Aylesbury. they are specialist shop and yes i did the run on treadmill whilst they filmed it and played it back so i can see how i run. most of their staff are runners and the girl i saw that day did know how to analyse the video but i wouldnt say her choice of trainers for me was particularly great...

    Very pretty

Oh Loula, I'm so excited *boing, boing, boing* We're going to do 50 miles together. I know I'll be slower than you though. But I'm really chuffed cos I now have four events next year and my focus.

Marathon in July, Ultra in Aug - a few weeks break before getting back to the long run for -

Marathon in Oct, Ultra in Nov

So perfect training/races in terms of timing.  And makes me realise that my current strategy of base trainig 5 days a week 23-28 miles for the next couple of months is perfect.

Ecky - which ultra are you training for again? Is it the September one along the canal?

  • Options

yay yay yay...chili...im soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited. am going to read the website thoroughly tonight when i have peace and quiet so i can absorb. slower than me? no way . i shall be going slow and steadybut staying with you of course. will have to tap Ben for more details as he has already done it and says no map reading required as its so well marshalled with great CPs.image

    mine is looking like this

jan-gloucester mara or if too snowy

    feb-cotswold mara

    may-NHU35 ultra

    aug-NDWay ultra50 with chili

    sept-JW ultra

    oct-ABO ...(and maybe greensands)

    nov-druids with chili

....another one to add jude !!!!!!!!

  • Options

...beacuse of the times of my events through summer keeping a base run of 20  miles once a month should work ok, then from june into july and august pushing it up to make NDW doable...plus point is that the better weather and light mornings and nights will make fitting in long long runs much easier. can set off at 5am and be home for 9/10amimage

chili , is there a fixed kitkist for NDW?..i popped onto the old thread for that event from this year and because of the amount of sand someone suggested sand gaiters as too much sand in your trainers gives terrible blisters...must keep eyes peeled for some in jan sale me thinksimage...hopfully we wont need too much kit in way of bulky clothes as it should be v warm. suncream, hat, buff, shades, and plenty of hydration will be top of list!!

R.R sorry didnt see you there.I hope your Injury gets better soon.

    Hi Angel.

Yeh Chilli its the J.W Ultra.

Loving the Christmassy Piccies Loula.I feel very festive.Must be cos the kids are doing their Boxes for Operation Christmas Child again. My Middle Girl didnt have to do one as they are doing a class thing but she did one anyway just cos she wanted to.She put a special note in too and coloured it in all pretty.

I wont get to run tonight as I feel quite rough.I think my workmates have shared their colds with me.

What! Already! image goodness, that is filling up fast. Mmmmm, I'm teaching two classes next week and was going to use the money for christmas pressies, but maybe I'll have to do race entry instead.

On the website it says that there isn't any compulsory kit list. And the stations look very well stocked.

Ecky - sorry you're not feeling up to running. Shoe boxes are such a lovely idea aren't they? Makes is seem more real when you buy the stuff and put it altogether rather than just donating money.

Just 4 miles for me tonight. Hubby is out again at another meeting and that is all I had time to fit in. Am off to eat my dinner now and practise Christmas duets and stuff with girlies. wish i was a bit more musical, would make it soooo much easier.

think i may have to sell sell sell on ebay to grab £50 for that race chili....mr llb looked kinda frowny when i mentioned the priceimage

Now thats a the best Christmas scene ever. Very well placed lights.

Yeh Chill I love it when they do them because they choose what goes in and they really think about it. I was reading the little leaflet they send home and the Story of one of the kids. The pic shows the little Girl really happy because someone sent her a Hat Scarf and Gloves. It really does get me all choked up when you think how lucky our kids are.

  • Options
And getting pencils and stickers - the little things that our kids take for granted almost. It also encourages maths (if you set a price limit) and shape and space skills.
Loula, keep the Christmas talk coming!
Little one is on an electrolyte fluid. He's now being fed every 2 hours because he is way behind on his fluid intake for the day. I had to tell the registrar how much fluid he should be having over 24 hours, and how much that worked out at over the next few hours. Nurse did a spectacular eye roll, then got the very very senior nurse practitioner to review Moo, including looking at his very sore ears and throat. Result - super high dose of calpol for pain and a proper fluid management plan.

Sorry if that's too much info. I know it's incredibly boring.

Oh, and augmentin to kill any bugs

tis not byeck.please keep us informed image

    Look after yourself too.

  • Options

Byeck, it's not boring at all. Many of us our parents. And Loula and Franny are medical people and like to know the details too. So please stop apologising. We're here to listen and support and send hugs and prayers. Good thing you and the nurses know what you are doing.

Take care of yourself too. Lets have cake and hot chocolate this evening. I've made an orange pie (like a tarte au citron but with oranges) and some hot cross buns with real butter. Loula, what do you have on your trolley?

  • Options

Please Dont appologise By Eck.I now that talking about what is going on can be really helpful.I know a lot of the families we support  always talk about what is happening when their little ones are going through tough times.

Mmmm Cake and Hot Choc sounds good. An Extra big piece for By Eck and a Hot Choc with extra Marshmellows.

Hot cross bun for me please, and if anyone has any curry, a small portion will quickly disappear....
