     morning all

enjoyed reading your blog cabbey, well done on finishing the race and for getting on the podium

  • Options

Wow just finished reading the blog Cabbey.  Absolutly amazing stuff and a trip onto the podium as well!  You almost make me want to run an ultra (but then I remember how awful I feel at the end of a marathon and think again!) Most impressed by the fact you did all that in 32 degrees to be honest AND on trail.... were there no other ways you could think of to make it harder??

Morning everyone else.  Officially at work at the moment so will save a proper catch up for later.

Marathons are OK RP just not one single step further (although I've found they don't like me sitting down on the finish line and usually try to make me walk down the road a bit.)
  • Options
And by OK I mean hideous and unpleasant enough that I vow never to run again at about mile 20 but not too hideous or unpleasant that somehow change my mind within an hour of finishing!
  • Options
When you can run a sub 4 though, it's always gonna knack Becx. image

And I did laugh at the fact my blog made you consider an ultra... I'd have thought it would put most people off!!
Been to the Physio today and had a large needle shoved into my piriformis which is (as he called it) "a bit overworked". It's ok though. If I keep improving at the same rate as I have I'll be trying a gentle 2 miler on Sunday to see if everything still works

I have to go to work tomorrow.... Boo hiss... Back to reality image

Bec lol, I still won't be doing any marathons any time soon. I have really gone off running at the mo, it might be because of my nice new shinny turbo trainer.

off out on Sunday p.m with the girls to watch a certain Mr pattinson, have a good weekend all

(((Mad))) I hope you're feeling better soon. Maybe a week off with healthy food, hot drinks and appropriate drugs would help?

Haven't posted for a few days as I'm still trying to get my head around a couple of things. My brother, who has probably the very worst diet of anyone in the Western world, has had a heart attack and will have open-heart surgery sometime next week. We've argued for years about his diet, he maintaining that ketchup is the healthiest thing you can eat - he even has it on pizza, and roast dinners in addition to the gravy! Chris is the only person I've ever known who doesn't eat any vegetables or salad, except for potatoes (preferably fried) and tomatoes. Don't you dare put anything green on his plate.

And I'm currently sidelined on doc's orders - can cycle and swim but no running. Been diagnosed with arthritis in my left hip and am scheduled for an appointment at a specialist sports clinic, but my appointment is not until 6th March 2012! If the ortho guys there think they can get me running again, they'll do an arthroscopy, for which the recovery time is about 10 weeks. So - either I lose most of next year, or I won't be able to ever run again. Don't know how I can last for 4 months not knowing. I've run since I was 11 years old, it's what defines me. It's who I am.

Reading back that sounds incredibly selfish - I AM really very concerned about my brother's op.
  • Options
It didn't sound selfish UI... Just very concerned, but you just can't tell some people and quite frankly the ones closest to you are the ones who listen the least.

If it's any consolation also, I had nearly all of the first 5 months last year not being able to run much at all. It all turned out well in the end, even though I hated being on the bench. Hope you recover soon (((UI)))

    Mad (())) and happy burfday!

UI ((())) I do know how you feel. At the end of 2009 I had an atheroscopy on my knee (3rd one!!) and then had another one March 2010, this time it included major reconstructive surgery to my hamstring(they messed up in 2009 and had to sort out what they missed). By May I was back up and running and ran 2 marathons later in the year. I really didn't think I would run again but sheer determination got me there. keep your cyling and swimming up and although you can't pound the roads you can pool jog. The most important thing is keep your chin up, it's not over until the fat lady singsimage

Hello, just popping in to wish Mad a very happy birthday (all 2 hours of it that are left that is!) and to liberally spread some ((())) about the thread as I think they might be needed.

I won a prize at the weekend associated with running!  Was 2nd lady in the South Manchester parkrun points competition which earned me a parkrun cap.  I already have a T-shirt from when I ran the special evening "darkrun" at Bramhall earlier this year so, as my clubmate commented, it's starting to look like parkrun sponser me!

    Morning all

BecX - well deon on your parkrun prize..great running!

I did go out yesterday morning despite not feeling great, did a walk/run rather than push myself too much. Feel a bit better today so might go out agin before work.

    Have a good day everyoneimage

    Morning all.
Mad, happybirthday for yesterday, well done on the run/walk.

Becx, well done on the prize and race.

Last night I finally had a great nights sleep... First one since before India. I feel tired all the time but I'm thinking that's now post race stuff as opposed to jetlag. I had a "vegetable" day yesterday where I ate lots of good stuff and then had a good 9 hours sleep. Trying another little jog tonight (on treadmill cos I feel like it's the Antarctic out there). I've been tending to a little bit of ITB which is very mild, but there all the same. Can't believe it's only 4 weeks until Christmas image

Sorry for my absence lately - have been very busy at work with no time to myself. There is a rush on to get some software implemented before the xmas/new year change freeze and I was 'volunteered' to get the testing done.

As those of you on FB may have seen, I had my first (3ml) run outside last Monday. I stumbled at the start of the run and my ankle was a bit achey afterwards but that has gone away. I managed two more runs last week - another 3ml run outside on Wednesday and a 3ml run on my treadmill on Saturday - then Mrs Wm and I went for a swim and sauna on Saturday evening which was good exercise for my shoulders. Last night I went along to my running club and did a loop around town twice for a total of 4.25mls. I ran with the 'novice' group due to my lack of speed at the moment. The time was unimportant as I stopped to walk with a new lady who was struggling with the pace - she was glad of the company and I felt very virtuous as a result. She just did the one loop and then I caught up with the rest of the group again. I have to say, it's really great to be out running again after such a long break. I'm feeling fine so I reckon I am fully mended - but I'm seeing the osteopath later for a follow-up session so it will be good to get the once-over from him and get the thumbs up.

So .... a week away from here obviously means loads of postings for me to catch up on! Lots of good running going on I see so a general 'well done' from me.

Cabbey - haven't had a chance to read your blog yet but sounds like Bangalore went okay. Like the fact Comrades isn't a go-er yet but you have a cunning plan (a la Baldrick). Ooh - a large needle in your piriformis .. as RP said, literally a pain in the ar$e image

Q - had missed seeing you weren't running - glad to hear you will be back at it again soon.

RP - Mr Pattison - who he?? image

(((MWW))) - sorry to hear your son has been in hospital - glad to hear he is home again now. And now you've caught some lurgy or other too - grrrr. Happy 'belated' birthday.

(((UI))) - sorry to hear your news too re your brother's heart attack and being sidelined on doc's orders.

"Parkrun" Bec (c)  -  well done for winning another parkrun prize! image

    *waves* to anyone I've missed

    Evening all

MWW - happy belated birthday  (()) hope your son is ok and that you are feeling better.

Cabbey you are amazing.  Huge well dones on a fab race and podium place.  Hope you had a good run today, and that your ITB is ok

Q - glad that the aches have gone and well done on your run, and for staying on your feet (know that feeling!!)

UI - sorry to hear about your brother and that you've been sidelined by your doc.  Is there any chance that you can get a cancellation appointment earlier?

Bex - well done on the parkrun prize.

Mel - well done on your week of running and your club run yesterday and for looking after the new lady.

Goes and joins RP to make a "gone off running" group, although she'll probably leave me behind on the bike, so goes and makes a group all by myself.
