I've a challenge in the thought stage, EG. Something along your lines, but not the number 13...

  • Options

absolutely loved Chester and yes was thinking i'd b happy if i giot 5hours 45 and 5hours 30 would be a miracle so to my surprise at getting 5hours 12 i was in total shock

I've kinda set myself a challenge for next year 365 days of running!!!!  the run could be a little one round the block or a marathon but thinking of perhaps doing a blog and see how it goes

  • Options

Interesting challenge Jo, A 365 day streak! that would be good, apparently Ron Hill has a streak going back the last god knows how many years, what's your's Ulen, mine is still in longer runs really, I've done three Ultras this year and booked two for 2013, but they do take their toll, I'd love to set my sights on a 100 miler but probably not ready to put the time into it.

  • Options

I fancied a 100 miler but everytime I get to 20 miles in a marathon I think.. no chance. Like the sound of 365 days of running but not sure i would stay injury free and thus enjoy it.
I'm thinking of a number of half marthons instead.. 52 maybe?

Willo46 sounds a good challenge, i'm already thinking of looking for my next half marathon but think that once i've done my next marathon on 1st Nov there's not going to be many races after that, There is a local 10k race ( which perhaps if i'm up to it may try for a pb there ) but sadly I dont know of many races now before christmas or in January, There is of course the Gloucester Marathon lol

you people are mental image would prefer quality rather than quantity! inevitably injuries and slower times would creep in

  • Options

Slower times were already there Antony.

When all this madness is over, I really must train for a flat fast marathon PB time.

  • Options

Fair dos. I admire your commitment and perseverance! That's my next target, to run a really flat marathon. Liverpool was a toughie last Sunday!

I too am going to go for quality over quantity next year!
I did Abingdon yesterday, where a friend virtually double-dared me to run a sub-4 (he got a PB in 3:21), and the inner voices made me run the first half faster than planned. My PB is 4:04 - so surely I've still got that kind of time in me, right? Wrong. Far from achieving the 4:15-4:20 that I thought I might realistically get, I struggled through miles 21-24 to scrape in at 4:30:04. Still a "season best" in 2012 by over 20 minutes, and I'm very pleased with notching up my 4th fastest marathon overall. I just wish I'd have stuck to my plan to pace myself more steadily to make the 4:30 more comfortable in the latter stages. Having my sister & nephew, and a work colleague to cheer me on during the last few miles (as well as the local Parkrun director and also the photographer) made the pain during the last 45 minutes or so more bearable!

Yesterday I ran my 3rd fastest time in 2012 (and 3rd fastest overall) for marathon number 11# and it felt comfortable (as comfortable as marathons go), ran a very paced race and was back in the gym at lunchtime today. Ready for number 12# this Sunday in Frankfurt.

Like the idea of '365' except the number of clothes to wash.

At the end of 2011 I did 47 continuous days of 5km everyday.

2013 Will be running the London marathon, apart from that not sure.

Reached 85% of my sponsorship target, if anyone is willing to sponsor me please PM , my charity is Anthony Nolan who specialise in stem cell transplants for people with blood cancer.

Is anyone else (apart from SSQ) running their 12 for charity?

When initially I set out to do this - it was mainly about the personal challenge, but in the back of my mind I knew that the driving motivation was to run it in memory of my brother. Once I’d decided to do it, I lost my mother to cancer. This threw me off track a bit, but made me even more determined to succeed. It’s taken me most of the year, but I’ve finally sorted out my fund-raising page. It’s at www.12in12in12.com and it would mean a lot to me to raise a heap of money for these good causes. But I’m hopeless at the sponsorship side of marathons, and have to admit that trying to get people to donate is harder to do that to run the marathons themselves. I don’t like doing it, and I get easily demotivated when the donations seem hard to come by. How does everyone else feel?

Given that I’m doing what (to me, and to most people I know) is a mammoth challenge, you’d like to think it’s easy to raise money. All I ask is that my friends just donate a few pounds each. Not a lot. You’d think this would be simple, but most of my pleas fall on deaf ears. I’m not even asking for the price of a pint of beer, or a glass of wine in the pub!

Having done fund-raising for 3 of my first 4 marathons (and raised over £3300 in total), I decided not to go down the charity route again. But this year is special. It’s special to me. It’s special to my family. So I want to do it, but I don’t want to do it.

I was pretty demoralised today – I asked a friend to post a message for me on his work email server. I used to work there too – for 21 years, until they made me redundant last year. I would have thought it was pretty much guaranteed that some of my friends and colleagues there would remember me, like me, and spare a couple of quid for me. Especially since it’s pay day today! However one of the employees there posted a message shortly afterwards explaining how he’d run a half marathon recently – but as part of fund-raising that someone else is doing by running 3,563 miles in 35 days. Which makes my 314 miles in 365 days seem pretty bloody pathetic.

So this isn’t a begging letter to you guys – I know how hard the sponsorship is – and if we’re not careful we end up all just sponsoring each other (as happened to me when I ran London in 2009). I may have saved myself the bother and just donated £100 to myself! No, this is just about letting off a bit of steam, as that email at my friend’s workplace really felt like a kick in the teeth…

Just sponsored you Ulen. You have come this far, keep going.

I've reached 97% of my fund raising target for Anthony Nolan http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/runwithC

Hoping to reach £1,800 before I run my 12th marathon this Sunday 28th Oct in Frankfurt.

Thankfully 2 weeks till the next one!

Hi Sue O - sounds like you were running pretty strong at Rutland. Sooooo did not enjoy that weather - by 15 miles in had lost all feeling in my hands and feet though slight bonus in that didn't feel the blister the size of a dinner plate forming on my right foot during the run image. was so cold by the time i finished that my OH couldn't hear the radio on the way home as my teeth were chattering so loud!!!!  ran my 3rd slowest time ever of 4:18:10 but at least can look forward to a warmer one for december (at least, am hoping Lisbon will be warmer). am thinking i don't envy the ones running portsmouth (though meeting up for a celebratory sherbert or two would have been nice).......

Rutland was Rottenland.  3rd marathon this year that it's rained the whole race and was my 3rd marathon in 3 weeks - and I have had enough! image.

Top it off my iphone which I was carrying died and is out of warranty, my garmin watch was playing up from mile 16 to 24, so I cannot look at the elevation gain and review how many calories I've burnt to cheer myself up. I don't have a time but I assume its 5h27 approx. It's my 13th marathon of the year -unlucky4ME.  I was so cold gloves and all my clothes were soaking wet, was so cold my muscles felt they were seizing up and I feel traumatized. All year I've had people telling me I must be mad and today I agree with them.

Marshals and cadet were great, so was the hospitality of the italian restaurant at the finish.

SueO - remember Steyning, it's not as bad as Steyning , but it brought back all thoses memories, so I suffered the cumulative effect.

It was great having last night supper and post meal with EKGO.

I'm sure tomorrow, I will look favourably on the race. Since I didn't run that fast , I will definately be in the gym tomorrow, unless I'm shopping for an new iphone. Wednesday I'll be off Thailand (no marathons yepee!) so I can lick my wounds while relaxing in sunshine.

Please please please don't rain in Portsmouth Dec 23.

Traumatised! I have to admit you were funny at the end, and that nice Waiter even offered you his shower to warm up. I haven't stopped eating, when I left the race after a decent Pizza, I stopped on the way home for a break and a sandwich and had another full meal when I got home. Appropriately titled Rutland WATER

Tough one this weekend then! I wimped out of my long run on Sunday as it was rainy, well done to all of you. I have the Enigma 40 mile on Saturday, and Portsmouth in December, it would be nice to find another one to squeeze in too......

  • Options

Hey speedskiqueen, you are right not as bad as steyning but think i am also traumatised by yesterday!!! lets hope A20 path n downs gives me my mojo back!

  • Options

Have to say; I hate Rutland.

Bloody awful conditions and seemingly poor organisation.

Well done everyone who finished it.

  • Options

Not the best organisation but a good challenge, I'm looking at possibly Portsmouth (but very close to Xmas to be away) and Liverbird on new years Eve, to get my 12 in for the year. So if there are any more on offer - help!

  • Options

Well I'm guessing 12 in 12 is almost done for most people, so what next? 13 in 13 seems too straightforward, any thoughts?

  • Options

I sneaked in no 13, the Enigma 40 miler on Saturday, next year's challenge is a 45 miler in Jan, then an Ironman in October.

  • Options

To keep the legs ticking over before next month's finale in Portsmouth - I've entered this rather interesting race:
    http://www.runningwithdavid.com/sections/events/run_derbys/12.12at12.12on12.12.12.php

    12.12km at 12:12pm on 12/12/12

With all those 12s in the race title - it was an obvious choice to include as part of my 12in12in12 challenge! Ok, so there is a marathon taking place on the same day (over MK way), but I decided that 12 was quite enough for me, and Portsmouth will be extra special as my last one. I didn't feel the need to squeeze in an extra one to finish on 13, so this 12.12kmn race is the perfect alternative.

If anyone is interested in running it - let me know. There is no medal (all proceeds are going to charity), so I'm going to sort out medals for a few of us taking part! We'll just have to have our own medal-giving-ceremony afterwards image
