It was slow and painful! The LRs with marathon pace seem so much easier probably because I am not on my feet for as long. I was on my own as well which didn't help, but I guess it makes me mentally tougher! One more very LR to go thank god.
feeling euphoric just finished my last LR. before barcelona. Gobi I did 2hrs slow then 7 @MP 1 cool down. Felt great. first 2hrs were about 8.10 mm then mp
6.44,6.45. 6.50, 6.47, 6.45, 6.43, 6.45.
Gobi, When I do the actual marathon should I aim for MP right from the start or a few slower miles to begin with ?
Good looking LR Doppy. I like the look of this run and think I will use it as my last LR too. How did the 7 @ MP feel after the first 2hours slow? Did you take on any fuel on the run?
It was a relief to start running fast and actually felt easier than the slow bit. I sipped gels from mile 5. I have a little plastic thing that holds about 4 sis gels. I have a mouthful every mile which seems to suit my dodggy stomach. Good luck with it KR. I loved it. It's like trending water for the first 2 hrs waiting for the race to start.
I look to gently settle into my pace, usually don't stress the first mile but by mile 2 I expect to be at MP, if it is your day any shortfall from the first mile will be collected in the last few miles :??)
A good weeks training. No real long run to do now but did the belvoir challenge today. Fantastic off road 16 miler. The sun shone for a change and 17 of our club members turned out. I averaged 7.26 mm through mud, gates and other obsticles so all ok. My legs are sore now so only a gentle cycle tomorrow. I did however come 1st lady and 4th overall.
This week a track session of 10x400.
2sessions of 5 miles easy
midweek 7 at 8mm
5 with 3@ HM pace
weekend 10 in 75mins.
Weather in Barcelona gonna be warm compared to here so stressing over that. It's all a bit real now!
Millsy easy in comparison to what I have been doing. Only 40 miles this week. Nothing longer than 10 miles. Next week a few very short runs, just to keep the legs turning.
I guess I am the only one shaking my head at 17 mile off road races 15 days before your target event. Given sub 3 pace is 6.54 this run was WAY TOO HARD.
Even going forward and looking at this week it is obvious my messages about slowing down have not got through.
Please at least next weekend only run 7 or 8 miles and back them down to 8s. There is no value in 10 miles at 7.30 pace the week before your race.
I really do wish you all the best DA but I am sad I have not managed to influence you more.
I am clearly very ignorant about running marathons. I personally think you have influenced my training, in that I run slower on long runs than ever before. Without having your knowledge of running this distance it is very difficult to know what not to do on the training plan I have. Who ever makes up these plans, obviously have a different way of thinking. I will take your advice for this coming week. Thanks.
If I have even slowed you a little then I have achieved a bit.
I guess looking back I just wish you had spoken more and been more open with what you were doing rather than talk about what you had done. I would like to have help more than I feel I have.
2 weeks out - I get nervous for the people I influence at this point....
Every time I put what my plan said to do, I got shouted at. Not very constructive as all I was doing was trying to follow a plan from RW. Other than you give me a day by day plan, I didn't know what to do. Oh well perhaps it was just a misunderstanding . If I don't break 3 hrs I only have myself to blame.
Doppy - you look to be in great form. What have you decided to do for your taper and do you have a race plan? Are there sub 3 pacers and will you follow them?
gobi - that last long run you proposed - run slowly for ages and then 6 at MP - how do you do it if, say, trying to run a 3:15 marathon? or is it not really appropriate for such slowpokes?
The crucial point is that you are simulating the last part of the race basically so for you it means about 2hrs 25 ataround 9mm followed by the 6 miles at MP so 7.26 and then 8(you will probably do 9) easy minutes.
Total miles will be around 23 and the run should take approx 3hrs and run will take around 3hrs and 20 mins
If its any use, I picked up a dead leg 2 weeks before London last year and missed out on a 15 mile run 2 weeks out and then did a couple of very easy weeks eg mostly 9 min miles and only 1 10 miler the rest were around 6ish.
I ended up on race day very fresh, raring to go and got a 2.58. My PBs over the shorter distances are no where near as fast as yours Doppy.
Marrow I really enjoyed my last long run as recommended by Gobi . A real confidence boost. My race plan is to keep the 3 hr pacer in sight, keep calm and hope to god it's my day!

Tredding water was what it should say
Nice running

Awesome! In this howling gale as well. Did you get a prize?
The very best kind of prize!

Wow, more prizes! You're going to have a great run at Barca.
