forgot to say thanks Gobi for working out the paces etc for me and Doppy for the valuable endorsement. Yes Doppy it does sound like a good confidence builder. I will have a think about when I'd do it since I am pacing 1:45 at a half 3 weeks out from my target marathon (which would otherwise be the obvious day to do that run).
Am I ready??? I've done the training...all be it with a few mistakes along the way. I will wait and see what happens. I'm nervous. Sometimes the best races are when there are no expectations, unlike this one.
Do your best Doppy that's all you can do , its not as if this is the last mara you can run so don't put yourself under too much pressure .Enjoy it and then see where you are at, and whip the 3 hr pacer as said in the final 0.2 miles if things are going well
Gobi: that last long run recommendation sounds ace - I shall try that myself. My target is a bit slower than marrows' (aiming for sub 3:20) so I would then go a tad slower than 9mm, right?
You are correct would suggest 9.15 - 9.30 pace , the first section is purely about the time, distance is not important you just need a slow jog the crucial bit is the MP on tired legs to simulate some of the feeling at the end of the marathon.
Finished! Not sub 3 but a PB of 3.03 so still very happy. Felt strong until last 2 miles when the heat just made it such hard work. Thanks Gobi for your help and everyone's good wishes. I have enjoyed the challenge. Think my marathon days are soon to be over. I am so pleased with what i did today that I should quit while im ahead
Congratulations Doppy, not sub 3 but still a time that most of us old birds can only dream of! I've followed your thread with interest and you are an inspiration. Don't give up on marathons yet.
that's an amazing time, doppy!! Well done. On a cooler day .... who knows Totally impressed by your achievement which is way out of my league. Enjoy some tapas and a nice bit of vino. You've earned it
Excellent, we done Doppy. Having spoken to a few people who ran I know it was a tough day as it got rather warm. Don't give up now though, so close, and on another day you'll get there.

Congratulations on your new PB Doppy! I know you were looking at sub 3, but you were so close. Hope you enjoyed the post race sun & sangria! Any reflections on how the race went?
KR I loved the race. The most comfortable marathon yet. At times I thought I was running too slowly and had to keep checking my watch. Strangely 6.50 mm felt easy. Clearly I have learnt how to do LSR in training, how to eat enough to fuel my body and how to take gels. It's never too late to learn.

I think there's little chance of me beating the 3hr pacer. In my dreams
Best of luck, doppy - do it for us old birds

...and the slightly less mature ones too! Good luck in Barcelona Doppy.

Congratulations Doppy, amazing effort, by all accounts it was very hot, so under good conditions a sub 3 may have been on,
