I think being in sufficient shape to take advantage of the descent to Llanberis shouldn't be discounted.  For the last two years I've been unable to take advantage and have hobbled down and lost loads of time.

My race plans are being formulated. I will let you all have a laugh when my ponderings are concluded.

Ahhhh, running. So, my training has been lack, real lack, but I'll be at the start for my 4th SNOD in a few weeks. If reading all your running adventures can be considered training then I'm mentally prepared for the task. My goal is to finish as I did at this summer's marathon. Mostly I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in Llanberis. I'll get there earlier in the week for the start of my Welsh vacation. Happy tapering for most of you and to all a good night.

Some interesting thoughts on pacing. I think UDS has hit the nail on the head regarding the second half of the course. However whatever your approach I think the key thing is to remember that the race is on the 24th not the 25thimage

I managed a 1.30.55 finish at the Tissington half yesterday. A beautiful route and very fast course. Strongly recommended for the PB hunters. Quite happy with the time as it was at the end of a high mileage week. Easing back the mileage this week with the final long run on Friday and little race over the Malvern Hills on Sat.

Great time The Lazy Greyhound you've got to be happy with that image

T Rex no idea of time for the big day. Hoping to finish is the main goal as you'd expect

did a 24 mile run in 3:20 over the weekend taking in as many small hill-lets as South Cambs will allow. Was hot and I felt dispiritingly leggy post 18miles or so. Hoping the adrenaline on the day will help with that

PJL - are you going to "hold back" in the first few miles of the course this time - by which I mean are you not going to start at least 15 minutes before all the other runners like you did last year???

  • Options

    Cheers FR.

Good running CaeRas. You have definitely got the long run miles in your legs. I am sure you will do yourself proud come race day. Taper well and enjoy.

Thanks Lazy Greyhound - much appreciated.  Hope you are right!

Training's going well this month, no races, just training mileage, 39.5 miles on the board.

FR - I take it you've given in your list of marathons?  Don't be like me and leave it too late ...

CaeRas - it sounds like you have prepared really well, including being able to hang on for the last six miles of that long run.  I would say sub-4:00 would be a very realistic target (which would equate to 3:45-3:50 in a flat marathon).

I'm trying to build up the mileage and not very prepared at all. (Not quite as ill-prepared as UDS though!!)

I have struggled to keep the required pace on my long runs (which have been few) consequently there is no chance of meeting my initial target of 3:20!

I think I will struggle to get below last year's target of 3:30, however, I am going to set myself an ambitious target time of 3:25, so please put me down for that T-Rex, thanks.

I have to say I don't really enjoy marathon training at all as I much prefer fell-running. I like these small, friendly events - turn up, pay a fiver and run, plus it's great to be out on the hills.

After an OK result at the Snowdonia 50 this year I have finally bit the bullet and entered the L100 next year. At that price it will be a one-off, though at least it is just below my usual entry criteria of "less than £1 per mile"!

A serious event, Greg C.  I wish you well with your prep for it.  They organise recces throughout the year, I believe.

For some reason we are all gradually morphing into ultrarunners.  And our main resident ultramarathoner (BritNick) hasn't hardly been posting ...

Beware newbies entering the SNOD marathon or posting on this thread!!   You could end up taking your running further than you ever thought possible.

Ha, ha - yes, the Snowdonia 2009 was supposed to be a one-off race for me for charity. Then I was packing in because previously I had never enjoyed running!

I got to the end of my first marathon in 2008 at London and said to the missus, 'Please shoot me if I ever suggest attempting to run a marathon ever again!'

    It's gone very pear-shaped!

And eleven marathons or longer paid for and in the diary after #100 in 17 daysimage

lol FR. Great stuff! Hope to see you afterwards to congratulate you on your achievement!

My wife is a solicitor who specialises in family law - the thought of doing more than 2 marathons a year hasn't really entered my head!! I'm convincing myself "quality over quantity", but given that I have to do Snowdonia every year  it doesn't give me much scope to do other/different marathons!? (this will be by 9th Snowdonia & 17th marathon in total!)

It's the only time I get to see you JB at the start and finish (excluding the TV highlights image )

Bit about the front runners on Welsh Athletics site today. Also mentions Iorwerth Roberts who will be running it again at 72 years old and has run every Snowdonia Marathon!

Hello lovelies just thought I'd pop in and see how the annual SNOD madness was building - well I see.

I'm running again but even slower than before. Did a really tough trail half last Saturday and enjoyed myself so much I'm doing a night trail this Saturday image time limit rather than distance on this though so I can plod around gently and just see how far I get.

Then i'll be spending the winter slowly building the strength back in my legs ready for the gentle build to TMW - I'm going to finally crack that beauty next year.

    Enjoy your taper madness xxx

How many of us will be around in 2057 for John B's 100 marathon club presentation?!

Can't promise I'll be there, mate.

Thanks, Chrissi.  I'm not sure we all do tapering on here!!  Glad you're enjoying getting out.

Ha ha TR - absolute no intention/desire to join the 100 MC. Just as long as my body/legs keep going and let me do Snowdonia would be good - how about 20 consecutive Snowdonia's - hardly Iorweth territory, but how about 20 consecutive sub 3h30m's?

  • Options

Hi Chrissi, glad to hear you are back up and running again. Hopefully you can put the disappointment of 2015 behind you and have an injury free 2016. Enjoy the night trail on Saturday, that looked like a great event.

20 consecutive sub 3.30's JB!! You have said it now so no going backimage

Almost half way there TLG (including 2009, when I paced Ru), although the 2nd 10 would no doubt be more of a challenge!? Perhaps I should have said averaging 3h30m!? (I think I've averaged 3h5m for the 8 to date)

Greg C - good to know! I'm also finally stepping up and have entered the ll100. I ran the 50 in 2012. Can't wait to get stuck into this one. Hugely challenging course but hugely rewarding too! The reccies are indeed worth checking out and start around November time. Knowing the route is a huge bonus. Of course we could just tag along behind BritNick who is an official LL100 Legend having completed it 5 times!!!

Hi all, I managed to trot around Kielder last Sunday in 3:46.39, so surprised myself and may revise my Snowdonia forecast to 3:45-3:59.59???

Has anyone else run both and have a time comparison? Kielder has no really big hills but is more consistently undulating - worth a look for those that haven't tried it? Wining time  was 2:43 I think.

looking forward to seeing everyone and enjoying the camaraderie!

    Andy

I am really hoping for some inclement weather for this years race.

The past few weeks, here in Llandudno, have been very dry, and at times, with humidity levels so high, as to make running distance downright dangerous.

On Wednesday night, i went for a steady six miles to Craigside and back, and the humidity level was through the roof.

I was only running or jogging happily at around 8 minute pace, and by the time i got home, i was soaked to the skin, both vest and shorts, with both of my T..TS soar as hell.

Lake Vyrnwy Half, back in September was uncomfortable, but the thought of taking part in a hilly marathon in such unpleasant conditions does not bare thinking about.

The humidity was so high, that i do not think you could have taken on enough water, with only 7 water stations along the route.

Not every runner will take precautions in carrying enough water with them, when such conditions dictate that you should drink far more fluids than normal.

Humidity levels are still murder today, here in Llandudno at around 67%, and in the past twenty years, humidity has never been an issue in the race.

Lets hope for cooler, more suitable running weather come race day.

PJL - Don't think you need worry about overheating image

Life has kind of got in the way of my training this year and I'm definitely just running to finish, so going to enjoy the view, the camaraderie and the "weather" image

image Hello gang, 2 weeks from now...we may be in Y Pantri having a pre-race meet unless there is 6 feet of snow.thanks for that SD ! Shall we seek John Bach and tie his legs together so he can't show us all up againimage?

I enjoyed my back to back marathon jaunt last weekend and was honored to present a friend with his 100 marathon club shirt at Mablethorpe. Legs are seriously compromised at the moment so need a miracle from the physio next week in order to complete Rotherham Round 50 next Saturday.I wont be doing it unless weather perfect as I see no joy in trudging through wet, ploughed fields at 7am!

LG, are you doing Denz's gig at end of October?

  • Options

Hi Brer, congrats on another back to back effort. How many are you up to now? Yes I will be ATTEMPTING Denz's double the week after SNOD. Felt a bit of a fraud last year when I turned up for the night marathon to find virtually everyone else had already run the day marathon! I am actually looking forward to it in a bizarre sort of way. You joining the madness this year? Any survival tips??
