I recommend this one. I live very close to the start line and train on most of the route. The hills are nothing to worry about and as long as there isn't too much wind - it should be a great day. See you all there!
My first race, gah! Didn't mean it to be a half-marathon, but a Brighton local friend put me up to it.
Still it sounds like I could take it fairly easy.
Do you think six weeks to increase my current longest run from 1 hour 10 to 2 hours (if I'm lucky !) is enough time? I run 5x a week but have just not managed to find time for lengthening my runs and this'll be my first race.
glad you had that problem as well SB - just printed off the application forms for posting............bloody hate it when sites say you can enter on-line and you clealry can't.........
this will be my first half-I signed up after enjoying the reebok 10k and now beginning to worry! I put my time into the calculator on here and it claims i can do the half in 1:57. Do these calculators usually get it right? I thought I'd be lucky to get under 2 hours,,,
These things are only a guide. There's too many variables to take into account. It DOES indicate the sort of time you can/should realistically aim at. Do you belong to a club,SW?
No-I mainly run with a couple of people I circuit train with in Preston Park, I'm new to this running game. Know I need to, particularly for speed training (hence slowly worm)but family commitments intrude at times...
SW, there is a track session at Withdean on a Tuesday night if you want speed work. 7.30 and open to all. You just have to pay teh entry £2.80 or something like that.
N also has a good group set up in Shoreham, you will find them on the FLM thread.
Form went in the post on friday so I will hopefully be in. I'll be running it at around my marathon pace so will be around the 2:20 2:30 mark. Anyone esle about that time or will I be on my own at the back :-(
Thanx for the reccomendation,Dips. Does anyone have an idea of the route? Someone has told me of a 'significant climb' at half-way point. May need to drive over there and check out what lies ahead.
Susie, I wish, I'm doing a couple of 1/2s before and I'll see how fast I am at the moment, but nothing faster than 1.45 (that's my target for Brighton)
Which halves are you running? I'm sure that neither of them will be as flat (allegedly) as this one. Best of luck in achieving your goal - I'm sure you'll do it!
first one in Madrid (30 Jan) it is supposed to be 100% flat but it comes too soon, then the Blackmore Vale 1/2 (6 Feb), which I think it is undulating.
I'm in 48-49 minutes 10k at the moment so I think I can do it, besides my PB is 1.50, and I'm sure I'll break that.
don't cross your fingers, it makes your running more difficult, 0)
mine is 4 hours, but that's been my target since I run London in 2001, which is my PB with 4.22. My problem is that I get bored after 3 hours running, and boreness is the last thing you need when hitting the wall.
N...the course is fairly flat apart from a small climb from sea level to cliff top level by the Marina. From there to the turn it is slightly undulating across the cliff tops. Some peoples perception of hills is unreal to us mountain goats of the South Downs.
Jose, its more of a step in my mind.
Its not really half way either more 3/4s.
The biggest hinderance will be the wind if it is blowing.

Tried to apply online this morning but, frustratingly, it's unavailable, so will have to apply by the old-fashioned method....
see you there

Now I really must get this entry in!!!
Come along and give it a go. Its a great group at the moment because of the marathon.
how flat is this?
I'm doing another 1/2 two weeks before. I can take the other one, I think it's fairly undulating, as a warm up and try to do the same as SusieB
(to smash my PB, I wish I could do the same time as her)
Normski, my b/f has assured me that it’s (almost) flat, but then he is extremely speedy, likes hills and may even win the race!

Are you doing FLM? is it 3.15 your target?
