A seasoned great north runner has told me that its better to stay in South Shields, where the race ends. Have never done the run before so I would also be interested if anyone knows where to stay.
I paid for my entry yesterday and I think the panick is just setting in today!!
Hard lines to all those who didn't get a place. There are sure to be plenty charity places available so do think of using one of these to get a place.
Alternatively, there are lots of other great half-marathonsaround autumn time. For instance, I'm running the Robin Hood Half in Nottingham about 2 weeks before the GNR.
Above all, don't let the lack of a place put you off running..!
I got an email saying i had been successful in the ballot and was in. then when i clicked the link to make the payment it said i had been unsuccessful and didnt need to pay. wtf??? their computer system seems to be screwed if you ask me. ive sent them an email asking whats going on.
For accomodation, I paid £25 a night to stay in a Durham Uni hall of residence. Single room, shared bathroom, good standard of accomodation. Included a good breakfast too. Thought it was good value for money and well worth it.
Nirvana do transfers from the halls for £15, there was a pasta party with entertainment as well. You could use the hall bar too which was handy.
I checked the website for all of us that entered on Tuesday and it said that none of us had got in. Then two of us recieved an e-mail saying we were in- but I can't access the website- why???????? It says there is something wrong with the server.
I go an email telling me to go to the website to pay - then after entering all the credit card details a message appeared saying it could not be processed as I had already paid. Then... 2 minutes later got an email saying my payment had been processed... so I will wait and see what the credit card statement says! However, the email did have a transaction number and did confirm entry into the race so hopefully all is well.
I'm a first timer and I'm in WOOOO HOOOOO! Didn't think I had a cat in Hell's chance, but have now found out that a few of my friends have got places too. For a while I did think that it was an internet/credit card scam (I'm usually dead unlucky) and then I wondered if - because it was the 25th anniversary - they were giving priority to all the Geordies, lol!
I cannot believe I have got a place... better find my running shoes now!..
Does anyone know what the accomodation is like with Nirvana Europe and can my hubby come with me ( is he included in the transfer to the race is what i mean )..
Also, is Southshields better to stay rather than near the start?
Nirvana have a range of accommodation - you pay more or less depending what level of accommodation and how near it is. Mine was fine last year - much better than I'd expected.Spectators can pay for accommodation and transfers too. It still all costs a bomb though
one thing i learnt last year is not to arrange your travel using the metro. i parked by the start line and intended to get the metro back after the race. when we got to the metro station the queue was about a quarter of a mile long! we waited about 3 hours in the queue. not want you want to be doing after just running 13 miles! there was even a dj there to entertain the queue, thats how bad it was.
I am disappointed I never got in. I have run the GNR for the last 3 years without fail. I entered my friend and me in the times ballot, automatically transfered to the GNR ballot, she got in and I didnt. FED UP
I hope so, as to run for a charity many of them ask for a minimum donation of £300. Having ran the last 3 for charity (Cancer Research and Leukemia) have have not raised that amount - £200 max
I've got in but my wife's name is not recognised. Guess who got the blame! Does this mean I didn't enter her correctly? (She often says this). Is there anyone to contact? Can we get into the second ballot? Probably not, I guess.
hello, I have just got my acceptance, I will be going on my own from London and not sure what would be the best way of doing it accomadation flight etc. Could anyone give me details of Nirvana also like the idea of Durham University. Does the Durham Uni one give you a transfer back to the Hall.
