Velo, I wouldn't try and race in them quite so soon. They are very different from other shoes, and you should at least build up eg 2-4-6 miles first. I don't know what distance your race is, but I think you'd find your feet, or other parts eg hips, were pretty sore afterwards.
Sensible: Thanks. Did a slow 20 Sunday & had 3 nasty looking (although they felt OK) blisters. I guess it just takes a little time for your feet to adjust from the 5.0 insole to the 4.5. Either that, or the 4.5 being a little thinner allows my foot to move more in the shoe, increasing friction.
(Except, reading back, I think you ordered yours first!)
I went out for a 3.5-miler in mine yesterday. Interesting to feel my toes trying to grip the pavement when I was running, but no ill effects during the run, or today )
I am hoping they will release a colour acceptable for work too. These would be great for work, especially in place of ordinary shoes when your legs are feeling tired from training the day before.
Has anyone else had any problems with blisters? They're fine walking, but as soon as I get past two miles running they start rubbing really painfully on my insteps. Tightening the laces seems to help a bit, but then they become a bit restrictive and I lose the barefoot feel.
If you order them mail order, where do you order them from, I have problems every time I go on the Nike/free website - and I want a pair of pink and lilac ones - can't but them anywhere in Aberdeen!?!?
Tried mine out on grass and trails last night ) No problems, apart from the previously-noted tendency to disgorge little stones and bits of wood on to the floor afterwards.
I went mad on JD Sports and got the bluey green colour Ladies model (pink is just soooo not me!) plus they have an all black sort of mid cut x trainer one which I reckon is wearable for work :-)
Just hope I like them now!!
Not plannig to run in them much at all rather than walk/general getting about in life type of stuff...my doc would have a fit if I started to run in them as my fractured tibia is only just beginning to behave itself and heal!
Put a pair of these on last night at they feel really nice and comfy, but... I decided against running in them because they feel REALLY weird at the toe! Am I the only one who feels this?
I know what you mean XFRB. It does feel as if your toes try and grip the ground a bit.
When runing around corners it feels a bit weird too. It's like your toes have gone really flat and wide. I actually felt more stable going round corners in them. All stuff to get used to I guess.

and they're go back again if they break!
(I think there may have been a little lack-of-training issue on that occasion.)
It's a 14k. I'll try the Frees over a 3-miler tonight and see how I get on. If I'm OK tomorrow, I'll try them out on Sunday.
Only problem is, they are SUCH pretty colours and I really don't want to get mud on them (
Tigger's Mate Roo - Yes I am indeed the Midlands Van bloke!!

Great genes think alike.
You got yours yet, hbjb?
What colour?

I'm hoping I can find some in a more sedate colourway to wear to work. They'll be perfect shoes for the summer.
Agree about a muted colour for everyday wear - guess pink will have to do for now!

I take the same size in these as I do in ordinary running-shoes, including other Nikes.
They come in a nice pale blue too!
Must be something about making them feel better about their foot size...not sure why ;-)
Just hope I like them now!!

I did get a rather odd sensation that my toes were curling up as if to try to grip the ground underneath
