No Hair of the Dog, works for many people I know. Just drink yourself better !

Gym for me this evening and, as they say on the forums, THUD. Really weak. And after 8 days off everything. Usually do a chest press with 27.5k dumbbells, picked up a pair of 20's to warm up for one rep and that was as much as I could manage. Did a full session on my chest but all the weights had to be much lighter than usual.

Measured myself on getting in an a 43" chest. Down from 44" last Nov and down from 48" in 2003. Running really eats it away you know.

Weighed in at 13st10 compared with 14st2 just a few weeks ago and 15st8 in 2003 (when admittedly it was hard work to carry all that round the FLM). Why doesn't it all come off ones stomach eh ? There is a 6 pack somewhere you know. If only !

So what do I do, try to sort myself out from the waist up, keep running and forget about my top half or try to up my gym work a bit ?

Maybe the Wolverhampton marathon is not such a good idea. Whaduthink ?

Please try to put your Gym-Bias to one side for once people ;-) (I feel a bit like as if I have just asked Tony Blair who to vote for !)

    Weight Link

Found this link on another thread, don't know if you have picked it up, but it looks like i should be about 11.5 stone for max efficiency.

    Alex
You like your gym and it is working for you so I have put my bias aside so an unbiased opinion continue with upper body work do not up it and continue with running:-)

I think you are mad to want to do the marathon no long runs apart from the 20 mile race at exmoor(unless you are holding out on me)It could be boiling hot on Sunday(I am seriously thinking wether to do my 10K or not)

So a big NO to marathon

It is always tough after time off exercise take it easy and be patient it will return:-)

OOOh looks at link to see what Poppy should be but she guesses at at least a stone lighter:-(

Poppy is off to bed she is up very late and will pay for it in the morning.

Not as bad as the 2.5 stone I have to shed. Mind you, I think I would look starved if I shed that.

I am not holding out on any long runs. Have done 14.7 (race the train) and exmoor which must count the same as a flat 35 !

Wolverhampton does sound depressing. Hippo reckons the route is depressing. Hmmmmmm. And its a shedful of fuel.

I am inclined seeing as I am a bit drained to err on the side of not bothering. See how the week goes. Only had it down as an EOD.

I'm up with a tornado in my stomach. Only eaten broad beans, corn, boild new pots and haddock. Plus orange juice. Not too bad now as I have taken rene, windeze and buscopan.

Last week I was belching terribly all week and was forced to go out and buy some pills. Couldn't be worse if I had eaten a whole years production of joke-shop farting tablets.

    Morning!!

    EOD????

    Hope you feel better...yuk!!

but you took 3 lots of different pills...that is bad!!!

I did not do the 10 yesterday just 2.5 run home I was dripping in sweat it was so hot.

Coach knows what I did last weekend and is being extremly strict so I must rest again today off course i shall run home well it is only 2.5 miles actually my body needed the rest this morning;-)
Actually asthma is playing last night and this morning so glad I am not running!!

Tomorroew is to be a hard session....I am looking forward giving it my best shot!!

Yes, better now, 3 sets of pills seems to have worked. Good by the looks of it.

Morning boys and girls, well,i'm back to normal today after a veeeeeeeeeery ropey day yesterday.

Didn't do my 10,went down the beach instead and played some frisbee which i'm sure is the equivalent of a 10 miler ;-)

Got our monthly GP race tonight in club so i'm quite glad i've had a couple of days rest.Fingers crossed there'll be something in the legs.

WP,hope you aren't in trouble with your coach....

Alex, hope you're doing ok today.I agree with WP,probably not a good idea to do the marathon seens as you aren't marathon training.

    Another warm one today,nightmare.

According to the weight thingy I should be 8 stone 8,which means I need to lose nearly half a stone.

    Damn,I feel like a proper fatty now,hee hee :-)

Bo**ocks to that fasting thing,I could never go a whole day without food!

I did a sponsored famine thing in school before for some charity and it nearly killed me.I swore never again.
  • Options

That weight thingy must be wrong; the only way you could lose weight Jen is having a leg or arm cut off.

Now you mention marathon training I guess I really should be as I have NYC in Nov. Trouble is I have not been anything training, just training.
  • Options
Yeah,I guess you ought to start about thinking about NY.

You have a good base to start from so it's a matter of building from there.Good bit of speedwork and get the long ones in and you'll be laughing.

With the weight thing,I think 8 stone 8 is about right. All the really good female runners that you see are like rakes and I am definately not like a rake (from my tennis playing days) so could do with losing a bit.But it's not really affecting my running and I think as I continue to train with good mileage weeks it'll come off slowly.I've actually lost weight during this period of marathon training.
  • Options

Like rakes or more to the point emaciated in my view.

I had planned to just plod round NY with no targets or anything but I suppose if I could do a sub 4 on that course I will be in very good shape.

Last year 4:36, but had not trained for it and not at all 4 weeks before as I had been off with policemans heal. Started the marathon barley able to walk after my policemans heal was exasperated by shoppers foot. Had blisters on my toes the day before !
  • Options
    Ha ha,not the best preperation!

Why don't you have a good bash at NY?

You've got a good while until the race so go on a proper program and see how you do.
  • Options

Yeh, a good idea if I can get myself back together as I am obviously below par last/this week. Comming up to winter too so once the temps drop I will be in my element.

Going 1st Nov so I guess I need an 8 week programme.

Realisticaly FLM was the only race in which I wanted to achieve anything. I would like to do a sub 3:30. Last year I reckon I could have hit about 3:50 without the crowds so this year as I am on th blue start there will be no penned-in-by-womble-type excuses for me.
  • Options
8 weeks is plenty of time. You'll soon build your mileage up.

Really don't know what time Cardiff will bring.I'm in good shape but you never know what's going to happen until the day.I'll just keep plodding on and hope for the best.

Roll on the cold weather. This silly heat is a nightmare.Nice for playing frisbee in though :-)
  • Options
Well that weight link thing reckons i need to lose about 4 stone, although it says certian rugby players should ignore it, so i'm going to ignore it as i'm a certain rugby player!

Did hill sessions last night, top soaked after 5 min warm up, am just trying to pysche myself for a 5 miler whilst mrs phil and phil jnr are out, then relax with beer!
  • Options
The weight link wants me to be 7.8 seen as I am 9st 4 and so blimming hard to shift weight at the moment even with all the training and I watch what I eat:-(

Maybe a starvation day a week may have some effect but not sure i could cope with it!!

    Jen
There is nothing of you and you dont need to lose weight.

Coach was shocked at what i did at weekend but intends to work me harder and make me suffer a lot more now he knows what I can do!!!

So schedule has been altered this week to have an easy week for my body to cope with the level it has jumped up to!!

Well 2.6 mile run done from work in thunder storm everyone was laughing in work me in shorts and vest but I loved it still humid though

    Phil

    good luck out there:-)

I think the weight thing is probably the weight of a top top top class athlete, if that.

Perhaps as Phil suggests I could be exempt from the weight requirements becasue I too played rugby (until I got fed up with rituals and tomfoolery based on peoples repressed homosexualiy and the inability of others to reject same, drinking to excess, being expected to socialise with people just because they were in the same team, and spending some Saturday evenings in casualty rarther than in work, apart from that it was a fine game; like the Murphys I'm not bitter).

Anyway, gym tonight, 15 mins XT, 1500m sprint on the rower (that is a bast**d) and bicep excercises.
  • Options

Anyway, More on the weight issue. As I have said poppy it is murder to get yourself 100% in shape when you are (one is) running long distance. If next summer you decide to train for 5k's and 10k's alone it is easy but once you need to fuel for longer runs it becomes hard not to store it somewhere and difficult to run on empty and burn all the fat.

This is one of the problems I have had since I started doing races and marathons and not simply training for training's sake. Rarther than concertrating on my body and what I want to achieve with that one ends up concertrating on the distance. Moreover because the goal is at a set time that makes it even harder.
  • Options
If that is the case I am destined to always be a fat slug.I was having this summer for short races but.....I guess i am a long distance gal at heart and just cant help myself!!

    Poppy goes off to sulk

You may have been having the summer for short races but what I mean is short training as well, and that has not happened. You do rarther like your longer distances don't you ?
  • Options
Paula doesn't seem to have a problem combining "slimness" with long distance though!
  • Options

Good point actually. At odds with my theory.

    Let me think .....
