I'm thinking of entering next year, but I'm not running my first marathon until April. Will it be a problem if I haven't got a marathon time yet, or is it still first come first served?
UK runners can enter without needing a charity place. It's on a first come first served basis.
It does not matter that you do not have a previous marathon time, you will be allocated a pen at the rear of the field. After your April marathon you will be able to contact the organisers and get bumped up into a faster pen.
Getting very excited about registering for my first Berlin Marathon! Would also like to get on with booking accommodation, any advice please? Which area is good, where to avoid etc.
Accommodation: 1. Stay in the Mitte or Tiergarten Districts (close to the start/finish) 2. Public transport is easy to use and reliable. Try and stay close to a 'U2' U Bahn (underground) Station, as this cuts across the city and provides access to the key locations for the race and then sightseeing post run! 3. By using www.booking.com for hotels you can book your accommodation in advance without paying anything until arrival at the hotel and can cancel up to the day before at no cost 4. Bored of hotels? Rent an apartment via www.airbnb.co.uk Great if traveling with your family or friends and if you want to control your carb loading and nutrition pre run
Other: 1. If at all possible, try and visit the Expo on the Friday. It gets massively congested on the Saturday and they had to run a 'one in, one out' system this year which people complained about 2. If you can, I'd highly recommend taking part in the Saturday Breakfast Run. a 6km jog to the Olympic Stadium, run on the famous track and free breakfast afterwards. Free to take part and great opportunity for your family to take part too and feel involved.
At the Novotel in tiergarten again for £100 per night but also booked the Mercure near checkpoint charlie - £300 for two nights and a 2 bedroom premier suite . Just got to choose one now. Don't mind paying a bit extra when the kids are coming to watch.
wow sold out in 3 hours 31 minutes...I was thinking about doing it again and went to have a look and it sold out in such a quick time... I knew it was good, I've got London 2012 and Berlin 2012 tied as my best races ever. Berlin maybe just edges it. But London is so close I can't make a decision between them. Hope you all love it as much as the 2012ers did
It's a big town, John. I have, however, booked mine - in Kreuzberg again. Johnas is right - it really doesn't matter where you stay, as the transportation around the town is incredible.
Its quite clever in a cynical way, if you think about it. By just registering and not having to make a payment the 1st 10,000 go very quickly, and you do not feel you are actually parting with your money. When it comes to paying in Nov, you're more or less attached. Also like likely for the site to crash
thought German food is really good, even that pig leg thing... bit expensive though, and the beer is the best. Public transport is a good and the organisation is just about spot on, some congestion at the start and finish but I suppose that's to be expected with 40,000 runners, the expo on the saturday is a total cock up though with people crowded into a corner of an airfield and then let in one by one to get numbers.
I know there was some discussion by a few about Frankfurt Marathon next year. Just seen this reaction from winner Patrick Makau: "My legs weren't good today, they weren't reacting but I found strength in the end."

Also, on there site there is a "UK Runners please click here" link to http://microsites.realbuzz.com/berlinmarathon
As that just mainly mentions charities, can UK runners only enter through a charity place or can we also enter through the main site?

Also the earlier you enter the cheaper it is.
Enjoy.

And, seriously, sell out in 3 and a half hours?! Bizarre way to sell a race...
