Lord Vader only you could be so bold. The film will happen - there's too much money floating around out there for it not to happen. As soon as the deal is signed they will start developing their 3 scripts they already have for 7,8 and 9. Look what they have done with Marvel.
Lucas you bearded gimp stop destroying what morsel of enjoyment can still be taken from the Star Wars universe. Hell, you did your best with the last three films of utter wrongness*.
*Apart from the duel of fates battle, that was actually cool.
Eggy - its good, as Lucas lost the plot long ago. (geek language) PT was a crock of dried baboon turd compaired to OT. At least in the hands of disney they will churn out respectable family blockbusters for future generations. Avengers, POTC and coming soon The Lone Ranger ....... this means that Lucas has no more say - no more Jake Lloyd, or the trade federation damnation imitation of organization reconcilliation iritation of my constipation. No moreShoddy Hayden Christianson types riding around gayley on a CGI "space cow" froclicking in the grass with badly acting Portman. No more WOODEN Ewan=esque performances or BADLY directed films.
Jimbob - The Avengers was great but I put that fairly and squarely in the hands on the director, who didn't wimp out of the fact he knew he was making a comic book film and went and had some fun with it.
Not all the Marvel films have been good though. The two Hulk films being notable for their poor quality. In fact the first time the Hulk was done well was in The Avengers.
POTC I think in truth they fluked the first film due part to Depp's performance. The sequels in my opinion were very poor.
I don't have any faith in them being able to take the Star Wars story anywhere. Mostly as I think the original trilogy covered what would have been the "interesting" time zone. The newer trilogy focused on the Vader story and they mad a right pigs ear of that. In truth I think Disney will look at the biggest part of the transaction as not being the IP such as Star Wars or Indiana Jones, but the acquisition of Industrial Light & Magic.
potc2 and 3 weretripe - was just referring to disney churning out ok popcorn films.
But whedon will make a SW film and it will be good / and PJ might just make one as well and that'll be fine by me. Whedon loves all that is good from the original. I call myself a SW Die hard fan and a browncoat so this to me will be the perfect collaoboration.
i know you like many so so hacked off with the prequels - they were bad. What it was to you and me a long long time ago blah blah - it can never be again but lets enjoy what they do - cause i think it can be ok. Hvae faith. I think with their acquisition of lucasfilm - the film trilogy they make will recover all the costs of the purchase - they toy and merchandise and blueray/dvd and videogames will net them another 10 Billion and then have ILM and skywalker sound to keep them well fed for the next 100 years. But the Film trilogy will recover their investment very quickly whihc means its a no brainer and they will want each of the 3 films to be 1.5billion hits so they will try to make them great/epic ? anyway lets watch this space?
My 2p on Star Wars. The reason that the first 3 films are considered so much better than the later 3 is that when we first saw them, we were kids who had never seen anything like them. When the later 3 came out, we were adults with a lesser sense of wonder and a greater critical eye.
Had the later 3 been the first ones we had seen, as kids, then we would have held them with great esteem.
Whahuh?! Think the link on my bookmark is broken. I have arrived in an unfamiliar corner of the interweb where I do not understand anything..... Don't Lucas make car lightbulbs or something?. The Avenger was a car made by Chrysler. I think my dad had one about 40 years ago or something. Grasping at straws here...
we're nostalgic about the original - like when they shot the first one end scene it was a camera on a trolley in a car park, and when they did the new ones it was a videogame. They physically and organically "made" the orignals. Any new one will never have the same impact. The impact of Wizard of Oz back in the 30s was the same. They have a new Oz film coming out very soon which looks all very good and pretty - but it will never be the same
Actually on the OZ thing I do think Return to Oz is a bit of an under-rated classic. It's a dark film, but one that really delivered and wasn't actually shackled by trying to be the Wizard of Oz Part2. I also have to admit to going to see Wicked when I was in New York.
The original Star Wars films certainly had an impact in part due to the effects and cinematography that were a revolution, but the delivery particularly of the first two films would stand from any time in my opinion. Return suffers a bit due to the start of the bearded ones insanity. The loss of input from Irvin Kershner the real talent behind Empire was very noticeable.
TD - Don't worry the geek fest interruption will cease shortly. Normally the arrival of those creatures they call women scare us away back into our hidey holes.
wow - sci fi and politics - we really know how to show the ladies a good time Eggy. Did you see those tumbleweeds blow through the thread a little while ago?

Yes... very exciting... although suggesting a new film already might be a tad premature.. great news that it's even been considered though
