It looks as if our summer holidays are going to be in the middle of June but hopefully they won't clash with Blaydon and we'll get a chance to meet up again.
Wee Col, good luck in the main ballot, fingers crossed we meet up again in September. I think there is a Guinness or two needs to be drank. I've PM'ed you on here if you can check your Inbox.
spongecake - If you still have your number I would probably be able to get someone to take it and pay you for it (or has Vixx taken it?). If you have I can ask around and get them to do a bank transfer?
Hi James,Vixx hasn't got back yet,but I'll let you know soon as,not to bothered about the money but if they want to make a donation to a charity of your choice, its fine by me.
Its certainly been busy on here today. I followed the RW marathon schedule and did a beast of an interval session this morning- 3 x 2 miles at 10k pace with 400m recoveries with 1.5mile warm up and 1 mile cool down. It was seriously hard work but at least the sun was out- all I could think during the speed bits was that at least I would be running a whole lot slower in the marathon. Maybe that's the purpose of the session- makes you appreciate the pace of the race itself!
I broke the strap on my Garmin at the XC (second time in 6 months) but I've found a velcro strap for it on Amazon which has good reviews. I let you know how I get on when it arrives
Do let us know how you get on with the velcro strap for your Garmin ... I hate the way my Garmin fits around my wrist, it really irritates me and I have to wear a sweatband underneath so it doesn't irritate.
I use the velcro band on my garmin and its far better, had mine for about 2 years and allows the garmin unit to be easily clipped off and strap can be rown in the wash as it can get just a little stinky !
mr sj- that's good to hear. Like Shielsy, I wear it over a sweatband (one advantage of a skinny wrist) but I like it tight which is why the strap broke after only about 4 months. However the 1st one lasted nearly 5yrs. I would have deeply upset if it had broken on the start line at London .
I remember last years GNR when we had just crossed the startline and a guy to the left of me had just that problem ! As he pressed it on the strap snapped and garmin hit the deck as thousands of runners came streaming over the line, last time i glanced over my shoulder he was on his hands and knees trying to pick it up!
The velcro starp can be done up really tight and is also easily and quickly adjusted on the run if its too tight or loose
Phew, it seems to be ok. What a nightmare tho, especially at the start of ther GNR, for it to break.I don't think I would be brave enough to try and pick it up with the bulk of 50,000 runners coming towards me!

That reminds me of a few GNRs ago. I had a bumbag full of my stuff, like annual bus pass, money, gels, keys to my house and keys to the bike lock. Somehow the zip on it came loose and because I wear my fuel belts very low-slung all the contents just scattered onto the road behind me. I did turn round for a second to try and salvage what I could, but then saw goodness knows how many thousands coming right behind me and just had to keep on running.
I did think 'Never mind, I've lost my gels but I'll just re-fuel at the stations ... but it was the year when they made that much criticized mistake of filling the Powerade stations with the sugar free stuff. Plus I couldn't unlock my bike waiting for me at South Shields, nor did I have any money for public transport, or keys to get into my house ... bit of a nightmare really.
But that said ... the Garmin going on the blink would still have been much, much worse
Now I want a velcro strap - can't remember what I did with mine, but it would be so much more convenient than the regular strap which I'm constantly fiddling with when out running and it's a real pain.
I got my strap with a garmin bike mount, think it was 15 quid and that included the strap and bike mount. With the one i have it has a plastic fitting on the strap tht the garmin unit clips in and out of but i have seen other ones on ebay that are just velcro straps without the plastic fitting bit so im not really sure how hey work ?!
Shielsy- just put "garmin velcro" into the amazon search box (and choose the correct model of Garmin ).
Mandie- both of my straps went at the buckle- the metal bar tore through the weak point there. I thought it would fail across the hole I use all the time like a normal watch strap does, so I don't think I'd have been able to spot it failing before it did!
I had a velcro strap on my first Garmin, and much prefer it to the resin strap on my current one, as that s starting to split.
One thought though. Does anyone know if I would still be able to charge/download a 205 with the strap in place or will it cover the contacts and need to be removed every time?
Hi all. 1st day off in 8, whoo-hoo. Went to Stanley and took far too many photo's. Glorious weather but I should have slapped on the sun cream; i'm a bit burnt.
LFC- those are the ones I ordered for me and Mrs OS (although their stock level hasn't changed since we ordered ).
WTS- one of the reviews says you just slide the charger betweent he strap and the unit. I'll let you know when it arrives- shame I'm not on commission .

Shielsy - I found this one on Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Garmin-010-10713-00-Hook-and-loop-Wrist-strap/dp/B000E65HXA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357828013&sr=8-1
It's £11.32 and looks OK from the reviews.
I'll probably get one myself.
Hi Everyone
Vixx ,Ive just messaged you.
I had a velcro strap on my first Garmin, and much prefer it to the resin strap on my current one, as that s starting to split.

It does seem strange to see penguins in the sun and not in snow.
They don't seem to tan though

Thanks OS, I was wondering about that.
Evening Stringy, looking forward to the photos of penguins in sunglasses
Thank you spongecake
