Thanks Millsy! No option but to do my long run on Sunday afternoon - hoping it might have cooled down by then - we have clouds here in North Devon today!
29k in the bag, didn't get out of the door until 930am as had to take other half to work. Boy it was a scorcher on the Purbeck hills. Drank every drop out of my pack and had to stop at tesco express on the way home to rehydrate!
Hey guys how's it going? Just seen this thread and thought I'd get involved.
I've done the distance before but this is my first official race over marathon distance. I've done a few decent ish runs but it's hard in this heat, I'm sure you'll agree! I'm pretty sure I've entered the 50k anyway, I can't find any email or paper trail of my entry or race details. Can anyone tell me where the race start?? And does anyone know details of the aid stations? I can see the link to where they are, but do you know what they provide?
if you click on the links for the race you should find the information you are after, unfortunately there is no nice website whcih has all the information one needs.
Start and Finish is at Salisbury Fire Station and as far as I know there will only be water provided at the aid stations.
Last yr I carried gels on a gel belt. I didn't carry water as there was more than enough water stations.
I haven't decided on what to do this yr. it may depend on the heat on the day. I have been training with a camelback which is ok but prefer to race without.
Yes same. I think I lose far more water than I can replenish carrying a camelbak. On Saturday I ran 22 and thought I had been guzzling the water down, to later find out I had only taken on 1.5l in 3.5 hours. I think i'll go with the belt and water bottle just to be sure.
I will be taking a belt and a water bottle which I can refill at the water stations. I quite like to be able to drink when I want and I am quite used to carrying a bottle on longer runs.
Well, I'm having a real flap now! Longest run so far is 16 miles due to weather and illness, so going to try and do 18 this weekend. Will just have to take it really easy, just plod on and enjoy the countryside

I've only got up to 20 miles so far. Planning a 26 this weekend then taper or something. 50k is doable, just a bit slowly
just saw your post from last night. If you still want to do that long training run I would be up for it. I'm in Salisbury btw
Damn, sorry @Jindalee I completely missed this. I find this forum hard to follow stuff. I'm doing a long run Friday or at the weekend - too late for you now, tapering?
My first 50k was done on a longest run of 18 miles and even for longer Ultras I do not go over the 20 mile mark. I finde it counter productive. So if you can do 20miles you will do 30 without too many worries as long as you get your fuelling and pace right

Thats good advice - I'm just keen to get up to near the 50k mark in advance to make sure my IT band can take it. My last trail marathon was not a happy experience!!
If anyone is in/around Surrey, I'm running "The Hurt" on Saturday. 16 miles trail with hills. I thought this would be a good training run before tapering.
Went out to do 13 miles this morning but felt so good i carried on for an extra few miles. Started before it got too hot and luckily it began to pour down for the last 3 miles. Lovely feeling running in the rain again.
I'm doing the 50k again this year. Really like to improve last years time .

hope your runs were good
20 miles LSR for me this morning. headed out at 6.15, not my favorite time on a Sunday but it's done now.
today in 3 weeks!

Shame the actual race isn't starting that early.
Fingers crossed it won't be this hot on race day otherwise a 6.00am start would be appreciated

Hi
Thanks. I will check out the links and hopefully that'll sort me out!
I was just trying to figure out how much/what I need to carry. Should be ok with a belt and bottle then I reckon. Looking forward to it.

Hi everyone - all of the relevant information is on the site now https://sites.google.com/site/salisburyfirestation/
I noticed a link to checkpoints - is the route not signed and do you have to navigate yourself? I could end up doing an ultra by mistake if so...
Hope everyones training is going well
I read that the route is signed so there should not be a need to navigate yourself
Which distance are you doing?
Excellent thank you..i'll take road and trail shoes and see what the weather brings..Good Luck everyone
I thought it was very well signed last year, they give you a map anyway but I never had to use it

I did 22 at the weekend and hoping to do back-to-back 16s this weekend, then start praying!
Anyone know how hilly it is?

That's encouraging advice, Vicar

Would still be up for a long-ish run but wont do 26 miles
Training plan says 12 for this weekend but I wouldn't mind to do a bit more. I could always drop out earlier once i have done enough.

good running!
Cheers Jindalee,
it's always a good sign when you come to the end of a long run
and you don't want to stop.
