Hope you make a swift return to training,David. You have a busy racing schedule this year, makes me feel tired just thinking about it.Just a few HM,10k,couple of hill races in the summer, which I'm looking forward to,and then my maiden marathon in October.
Dubai,I'm with you,never worked office hours,currently working 4 on 4 off.Enjoy your weekend festivities.
Fantastic 20 miler,MrM2,sounds like a tough one.Congrats on the 400 as well and your 400,Cal.
Thanks Gipfel, and well done for the wintry 17' (got to be worth 20?). I'm generally working towards the Newport Mar, on 5thMay. Not following a set plan, but making sure that I build up the long runs (would hope to do three more 20s in the next 4/5 weeks, before a 2/3 week taper.) Thanks Cal...Hope you will see some niggle-reduction following your specialist appointment. Welcome Ollie ....never too late; seem to remember that I joined late last year when my tally was already around 1000'. Harmander...are you serious?! a 12.75' recovery run after your walked Half? Congrats on the 500+ Thanks Dubai...sounds like you are taking your patriotism very seriously! Wondered if you were able to see any of the Triathlon events at the week-end.
Tried to keep today's run simple; an out-and-back, mainly flat, 12'. The strong wind was still a factor; mainly sheltered by the cliffs but still a help on the return run. No snow to contend with but sand drifts didn't help. Hard to plan for the next few days; visiting 'children' in Chipping Norton and Bristol. YTD:416'.
Thank you JD1 - The reports are true as one of my club runners says so - she ought to know as she has nigh on 300 marathons under her belt. I am doing the Whingeathon 2 on that day in sunny Gravesend.
Thanks JD1....and if you enjoy Chester half as much as I did, last year, you'll still be well pleased. A good choice for first marathon. Will be away for the next few days, and not sure what running I'll be able to fit in, so braved the windy conditions and did an easy 10km. It was good to check out my troublesome ankle; just a little tired. YTD: 422'.
JD, I loved Chester - by far my best marathon. It's a little undulating but nothing to worry about. Spent far more time in Wales than I was expecting too. Enjoy!
Well done on the 300, Hobie.
6 windy miles today. And by that I mean the weather!
I may have to defer my Manchester Marathon place - so annoyed. Was informed that my invite to a national charity awards do the day before that I was going to skip includes me being shortlisted for an award. Will negotiate with 'er indoors if she could go on her own and tempt her by saying there is loads of food. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Hmm, tough choice Harmander, hope that works out for both you and 'er indoors.
Only 4 miles for me today but made fantastic by my boy asking to join me...cricky the boy can run up hills...next time he takes my watch so I look faster.
Covered 7 miles today. 2 mile jog to meet my friend who drove me to Foots Cray Meadows parkrun. Then the parkrun. Then 2 miles home carrying a bag of apples that I bought in the farm shop. Not the fastest parkrun (just under 27 minutes) due to the wind and the fact it's all grass/trail, though I did get my highest placing (24th). It was out of 52, though, so not as good as it looks on paper.
Well done on the long run Cal. You must have those niggles under control now? Enjoy the taper; the work is done. Staying with daughter this week-end, so enjoyed 10 country miles around Chipping Norton with her. Let's just say that the trainers needed scrubbing when we got back! YTD: 432'
Did the 10.19 miles parkrun sandwich yesterday and 21.8 miles LSR at pacing speed today (despite the head cold)- just before the rain making YTD = 573.49 miles.
Glad you are all still running well, I’ve had a terrible week! Heavy cold/cough and fever on Weds and Thursday and then just when I was feeling well enough to contemplate a run on Friday I managed to completely ruin my lower back when the accumulated coughing proved to be too much for it to cope with. Can hardly get out of bed or off a sofa at the moment, let alone run! So frustrating!
Apologies for the briefness of my contribution. Laptop bust and typing on a phone which I always find a pain.
Sheffield HM on 14th April now looming, sub 1hr 50 the target, think this borderline. Hard runs planned for today, Wed and Fri. Should know more by the weekend.
As an aside as anyone used 'heart rate monitoring' as the over riding factor in their training? Talking to someone yesterday at the gym who hopes to go sub 3 hours for the Manchester marathon. He's used a coach to approach this particular run, and they've worked hugely on running within 'target' heart rates. Despite being a very good athlete, the coach slowed him down completely and did lots of sessions of say 9.30 min miles but maintaining a heart rate at less than 119. The runner was almost evangelical about it.
MrM2, Well done on passing the 400 mile mark already, and the amount of long runs you manage to get in.
Cal, Well done to you as well, 400 miles, 24th in the parkrun and a 21 miler, you have been busy.
Gipfel, Great 17 mile run in those conditions, it has been a bit windy everywhere, we had a large Oak tree go over opposite our office, luckily it fell into the field and not into my workshop!
Senidm, Great picture, boy are they large.
JD1, You have a busy schedule by the looks of it, I seem to train better if I have a lot going on, I think if I was to only run a couple of times a year I would end up being lazy, this way I need to train or face the death march, which hopefully you will never experience.
Harmander, That is a difficult choice, bugger springs to mind.
Andrew, Hope you soon feel better, it's crap isn't it?
Donnie, Can't help with the heart monitor, I do know that many very fit runners use them, as they can help with pace etc, but not tried myself - Only just learnt how to operate the watch
And so to last weeks outings...…….
I ended up taking the whole week out, and still have a sore leg just above the ankle at the front, I am going to see my sports therapist who should be able to help, I did manage 3 sessions in pool though, so not all bad. The swelling has now gone and I did go for a jog this morning, which although didn't feel to bad, wasn't right, so will keep to shorter runs for the time being.
Andrew and David, I'm hoping that there are some better days for you, not too far away. Overnight in Bristol with son, so a 4'exploratory run this morning, including an out and back across Clifton Bridge. YTD:436'.
Thank you everyone - it still felt terrible on Sunday but felt better yesterday and by today felt pretty much fine. So I went out for 5 easy miles this evening. Felt good to be back out there!
