I won't mention the cricket today, Birch! About 13 degrees at parkrun with a slight breeze but did indeed wear shorts and a t-shirt. About 20 now. And a decent long run from yourself!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
Not all packed but getting close.removers in on Wednesday! Thank heaven we have a week after the furniture goes in to go to tip and charity shop with all the left over stuff.
Mick : good to see you back with us but take care as sounds very nasty!!
Running all going okay ran 6 miles yesterday longest in a week down to my bench as for last time. But new benches to hunt out at new location.
Would be Boot Camp and last one but cancelled this morning. So a short run in a bit for me.
ALF: Always a little further Miles makes smiles. Progression
WP, Good luck with the move. Having done it twice in the last two years I can relate. We got rid of a lot of stuff by just leaving it at the end of the drive. It is amazing what junk some people seems to want.
Still way too hot and humid for my recovery run but the weather is supposed to break so it can find its way to the UK.
alehouse very good return from your parkrun - timed it nicely Tee shirt and shorts - well I never!
Dave another good long run from you- I thought at first you were going to stop for a coffee at Costa!!
WP nearly all loaded up and ready to go Nice longish run to say goodbye to familiar surroundings
Mick hope the Bonnie trip went well and the corn successfully harvested!
Turned out very nice here yesterday - ideal for the BBQ we went to at my daughter's. Still sitting outside at 9pm.
Resolved to run "long" this morning - well as long as I could move one leg after another in breezy conditions. As it had been dry for several days I went off road up the rutted paths and through pinewoods, with slippery exposed tree roots to look out for, to the highest point in town and then a bit on grass and finally on the road home - sounds a lot but only came to 4 miles in 51mins
Wordle in five yesterday after getting four letters in the wrong place in one! Wordle in three today after getting one letter in the wrong place in one - but it was the crucial first letter in the next line
Just over three quarters of an hour with my M77 neighbour this morning; somewhat damp.
Most of the day has been on online exam marking; find it difficult...and tiring. Spent most of yesterday from 8:30 a.m. being trained online followed by jumping through hurdles on line! Only a short run in the evening.
Wordle in four today also.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
TS - just down the road from me - hope the visit was fruitful. Good "time on feet" by you the other day - rutted paths and tree roots would be a hazardous combo for me !
I watched the Hudds/Luton playoff; seems Arsenal were dire (and Toon v.good) . . .
out at 8am today; 5 miles steady up at "rural loop" with chum. Glad its done, as forecast is 22c later
Mick now just go all Spursy on Saturday and get beat by Norwich!!
Not seen a Newcastle team on the front foot so much in a game for ages - they just overpowered Arsenal all over the pitch. On Sky we had Alan"Arsenal" Smith as a co-commentator even in the extra time period he was wondering if Arsenal could pull off a win!!
Dave a good time to be out this morning
They were a nasty combo for me as well _ I took that part very slowly indeed!
Nearly a fairy tale for Luton...
Hash this evening promises to be a hot one - which means one will have to rehydrate and replace trace minerals afterwards in some quantity
Wordle in six today - just made it - I has used up so many letters that there was only one fit left!
Heavy rain and thunder so postponed comeback run as I don't want to do it on the treadmill
I'm building a small raised veg bed and have beeen shocked at the price of lumber. Two 2x10 by 6 feet, two 2x10 by 4 feet, two 2x4 by 6 feet, and two 2x4 by 4 feet, all in cedar for obvious reasons cost $164 including tax. That is about 100 pounds, what would it cost there?
Mick British grown Red Cedar would cost about £20/m - if you could get that 50x250mm x section size! So about £140 for the big section and £21 for the smaller sections = your C$ cost but in £!
I would normally use tanalised/treated softwood however at about half the cost
"Entertaining" Hash last evening in beautiful, but very steep, heavily wooded river gorge made even more entertaining by the most slippery bare earth/clay paths imaginable freshened up by some light rain!!
4 miles done - refreshment was consumed afterwards
Most of the day has been spent staring at the computer exam marking but a few short breaks gardening, shopping and of course running.
3k warm up, 7 x 30 seconds hard uphill, warm down (not that I did!). Have done no quicker stuff for over three weeks, parkrun apart so thought that I had better get on with it. About a month behind my loose plan now!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
TS, That sounded like a great run. I didn't want to use treated lumber in our veg patch. It is much cheaper here as well. Canada is covered in cedar spruce and pine, I could literally cut it down in my garden.
Finally did my come back run/walk, 3.1k in perfect conditions. I felt good after the first k but more importantly my hr rate behaved normally.
I have over an acre of lawns to cut and with this crazy weather it has gone completely nuts, I can't keep up I may have to give in and buy a tractor.
alehouse that's a lot of screen time! What exams are you marking? Speedwork as well on hill reps It takes a while for the benefits to come through, about 6-8 weeks but suddenly hills don't seem so bad - or one just runs them faster!
Mick Western Red Cedar carries a considerable premium here. It is most often used for external cladding on buildings - in fact I am taking it off on one building where it poses a fire risk!!
There was one moment on the Hash as I descended a very steep section of very slippery clay path, with forward momentum increasing with every minute stride, that I thought I was bound for the river!!
Dropped car off at garage and ran home - or as best I could given that it was all uphill for 2.5 miles!!
Wordle in four - a neat symmetry between my starting word with only one letter found and in the wrong place and the solution
day off yesterday - intended run, but felt v.tired and slightly queasy, for some reason (not a result of over-refreshment) but after a good (by usual standards) sleep , felt better this morning, so 7 miles steady done and dusted. Pleasantly fresh, but just right for t-shirt/shorts !
TS, year 6 national tests: Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. I've done it for years but I think that this may well be the last time. Too many hoops to jump through. A couple of hours done this morning in addition to a 50 minute plus run plus Wordle in 3. Just about to head to cricket at Old Trafford...although inevitably it is raining!
7 miles would be nice, Birch! Can seem to run that far any more!
Sounds a decent return to running, Mick!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
Mick with an acre to cut you deserve a sit on tractor Good news about your run. Keep it up!
Dave 7 miles in nice conditions sounds perfect. After a good night's sleep as well even better!
alehouse aahhh - my g'daughter has just finished her year 6 SATS. When I asked her how they had gone she simply said "great" so I left it at that reminds me she is coming to stay tonight along with her sister so I will be on pancake duty tomorrow morning!
Enjoy the cricket ....
Felt a bit like Dave had done this morning and only just managed to get out the door for a thoroughly dispiriting 2 miles - knees hurt, breathing off, no energy - carp!
Wordle in five - too many choices after getting three in line one in the wrong places. Not sure it is a proper word in my world!
TS, You and I are of the same vintage and values, give up never, take us out the back and shoot us is the only solution.
The boys put up with me today and escorted me on a 7k shuffle. I survived with the odd walk thrown in. Conditions were perfect and I finished feeling good. Now I have to recover sufficiently to finish mowing the lawn. Mrs Mick was impressed with the raised veg box so, you've guessed it, I have to build another one but bigger. Mick
Occasional lurker here. Sorry to see that Mick has been struggling and of course send best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
I note that several have contracted the Wordle bug. I've also got the Word Hurdle, Dordle and Phrazle variants. And I'm not much cop at any of them!
Good to see that NUFC have flourished SOLELY because they signed Big Dan Burn from Brighton.
Back to running. I've had 4 hamstring incidents: 2 at club training nights and 2 when I was doing a parkrun. A pattern was developing: speed = injury.
Eventually I switched o slow running, even (TS will note) the Maffetone approach. This has helped but I don't think I'll ever be hooked.
Anyway I've now had 2 successive weeks back on the parkrun treadmill, on a hilly (can you have a hilly treadmill?) course and then today a flat one with a time of 21.01 which takes me back to somewhere near decent form.
With a more systematic approach to stretching and an approach to training that is less manic, I'm hoping the injury niggle is behind me. Which is appropriate for hamstrings.
hope the pancakes went down well, TS - and that you were able to sample your own handiwork !
nice jaunt with the boys, Mick - 7K good; "feeling good" at the finish even better!
splendid parkrunning, John - times like this are a distant memory here (7 years in fact - 20:47 parkrun in the middle of a marathon training long run - was only a youth of 60 then )
alehouse, your post prompted this pic (I'm not one for much phone photography, but couldn't resist this one as I walked through the area the other week) !
anyway . . 12 miles hilly this morning. Pleased with it in the end, but hadn't felt in the mood at all to begin with. Started with 3.5 solo, going through park as parkrun proceeded, then rendezvous with chum for the remainder, which the company made more bearable Last four Saturdays 10, 12.5, 11, 12 . . .
Thanks for the photo, Birch! And consistent Saturday consistency!
A while since I ran that quickly, JB! When I'm older perhaps! Well done!
Cricket was not good, TS, on several levels: the cricket from a Lancashire point of view, and the weather. Probably could have done with more rain!
7k to match Mick yesterday. Not sure what I will manage today: off shortly to help at the Great Manchester Run. Got to be there for 7:30 prior to the half starting at 8:30. Will run before, during and after.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
Mick that's the trouble with doin things well - someone always wants you to do it again. It reminds me of a classic line on a live concert recording of Joni Mitchell - Miles of Aisles, with Joni at her absolute best, (when a member of the audience shouts outs - "play Carey". She responds with these words or something like them - "hey, I mean no one ever asked Van Gogh to paint a Starry Night again, man". Of course she goes onto sing and play it perfectly but it's a response I have often used when asked to do something again and she, being Canadian, should also get you some bonus points
Pleased the run with the boys went well - the others even letting you catch up! In the old days a sign of weakness was the spark to see everyone else speed up!!
As my Aussie physio used to say as she patched me up, again, "aw mate, back home, we'd just shoot ya!"
John well done, finally, on the conversion Just think what could have happened if you had listened to me all those years ago !! Excellent return as well on your park run. Have you had any treatment on the hamstring? As I said before the scar treatment can be a weak point for a long time unless it gets broken down
Yes "Big Dan" has made a difference when paired alongside Fabian Shar. He could do with being a bit better at the other end in the opposition penalty area but the first job of defenders is to defend!
Dave great photo - at least they put an apostrophe in Another good weekend long run - you are doing well consistently to get that sort of mileage in.
alehouse that was a very early start for you !! long day on feet there seem to have been an awful lot of runs scored in the early matches this year - normally it seems to favour the bowlers.
Had a hard gardening session yesterday in bright, breezy conditions and it left me with as stiff back so started very cautiously this morning on my previous Sunday's hilly jaunt - 4 miles in 49 min so nothing to brag about
Stopped for a few seconds to hear, and see, a curlew as it passed over the field opposite my house, its beautiful song tumbling across the quiet sky. They used to nest in the field but changes in farming practice have meant I haven't seen or heard them in years.
My Garmin seems to be failing even more - the backlight no longer works and today it recorded 2m in altitude when it was closer to 100m!!
Wordle in two today - thanks to my wife listening to some old Abba songs whilst in the kitchen, one of them had stuck in my mind - they did write some good hooks in their songs!!
Yes, a ridiculously early start today, TS: had to be in our positions just after 7:30 (after collecting food, t-shirt, safety bib): first runner came past around 8:50 at my 4 mile point with an 8:30 half marathon start. Did reasonably early and I was back home at lunchtime to start more test marking! Managed to run close to half an hour in bits, but with a back pack, which I find a struggle these days.
And not many runs scored by Lancashire in this match!
That's a decent week, Birch! And you don't need me t mention it is all about consistent consistency!
I would imagine Mick is happy with Spurs! And those of us who support other Premiership teams!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
John ideal preparation for a 10K - a fast 5K - not !!
If you go the self treating route then a tennis ball under the hamstring when sitting on the floor with legs outstretched and roll the muscle over the ball will help break down residual scar tissue and encourage blood flow.
alehouse fast starters if they covered 4 miles in 20 min! I saw that Eilish McColgan ran a very fast 10K breaking a certain Paula Radcliffe's UK record. Eilish looks more and more like her Mum!!
Yup - footie results all good - apart from S'land getting promotion! I guess the work starts now at the Toon after that almost miraculous second half to the season
Out nice and early, but not alehouse early, for a slow 3 miles in hazy sunshine

Mick you will be hoping the Toon do you a favour tonight!
Wordle in four today

On a whim I ran a 10k race today. Not very bright of me given that it was hot, undulating and I ran the 5k yesterday flat out.
But got away with it with a 45.52. Not great but OK and nice to finish strongly picking off (younger!) runners in the last 0.5km.
Managed to run close to half an hour in bits, but with a back pack, which I find a struggle these days.
