Oooo...I forgot about the bacon sandwiches. How could I? Must be going mad to forget something as important as that! Now that's put an entirely different perspective on the food question (and they are of course salty) Bryan - remind us again which checkpoint these happen at?
Just got back from long run trying out camelbak-type thingy which I had only used for walking before - surprisingly comfortable to run with - only problem is sloshing noise, which will no doubt annoy companions!
Won't be visiting the thread now until just before the big day due to work trip followed by holiday so just to remind any 4 am starters (Hippo, DDP, in hiding?) that Mr Sluggie is happy to give a car-load of us a lift from Vane House to the start ( I am ussuming we can cram driver plus up to 4 people into a Ford Fiesta if we need to)
Is Mr Sluggie going to help out with lifts back as well? I've presumably got an extra space if DDP isn't coming for Caspar and perhaps In Hiding if she can squeeze in. Hippos get the front seat by the way.
Right guys, I'm number 93 starting at 7:30 with Loz and at least one guide!! I've been looking at the route on the maps and I think after all I said I will be cutting them up!
The trouble with cutting the map up is I expect i'll go too far south and end up on the bit I left at home but it will be so much easier to use that way.
re ]Mr Sluggie running people back - yes, no probs, stupid of me not to have thought of this before. Usual provisos re illness, injury etc on the day - but at least in theory everyone is supposed to finish at a similar sort of time.
Is there a pub of choice for meeting up on Friday night?
pps - if there are any queries re lifts etc in the next week or so, best to email me as I will be on hols and can pick up emails on phone thingy, whereas accessing website is too slow to be practical. Off now to Normandy for a week - train on forest traisl or just taper with a glass of red, I wonder?
Timothy, I have to tell you I'm pretty hopeless at map reading. I've actually ran the first part up to carlton bank in a different race, but I probably won't remember it. I'm looking forward to it in a funny sort of way.
Plodding Hippo-3 Steady (in spirit only)-75 Caspar Kennerdale-79 Timothy Rainey-93 Loz-92, (My age by the time I've finished!)
NMP, I think I guessed 8.5 hours, but it was a long time ago so I can't really remember. I've got to admit I'm not completely new to this. Last year I did the Haworth Hobble, about 31 miles and the Manx mountain marathon, nearly 32, but to be honest I still can't imagine running 42 miles. I'm absolutely hopeless at road marathons as well, but that's mainly because I hate tarmac. I'm going to set off very steady and see how it goes. It looks like we'll have a good group to start with. And I've borrowed a GPS so we shouldn't get lost! Famous last words!

I will defo put this in my diary for 2005, and look after my knee.
Cant remember my final time estimate - it may have been 9.5 hours - what was yours?
PS After my recent exploits in the lake district I have bought a new toy - a GPS so can't possibly get lost now!*!*!.
