Hi everyone .... been distracted with wife falling off horse and breaking wrist and having lig surgery a few weeks ago .... have been able to keep some running going for Gr North Half in weeks but have lost time on golf course ....
Any suggetions or pearls of wisdom for great north run ?
Hi guys, think I'll go for this one too I have family over in Naaawich so it will be a laugh. I notice though that they appear VERY strict against the use of ipods/headphones etc. What a nightmare I really need my music to get me through any run, let alone a race!!
For those of you that have already run this event before, just how strict are they? It says on their website that anyone caught using them will be disqualified Is this true? What experiences have you all got??
I was hoping to run pushing my son along, but not too sure they would allow that if they don't even allow headphones!!
No idea about buggies but I've certainly never seen them before. I would contact CONAC and ask. The iPod rule is pretty much the norm nowadays. I have heard rumours about people being DQ'd in races but they may be just rumours...
I was surprised about the no ipod rule too - but then I've been out of running properly for 10yrs, hee hee! It's quite weird running and not having to worry about changing the tape over.....
Looking forward to the Norwich half, had a run with my brother in-law a few weeks back and asked him loads of questions about it (he ran it the other year). Can I beat 2h30s though?
I've done Norwich 3 times now and I can't remember every seeing anyone wearing earphones. That said, I wasn't looking for them so I might not have noticed!
was aware of someone disqualified last year for wearing mp3 and earphones ... considering roads are not totally closed off (although there we not many cars to think of ) I can see why they do it!
We are strict on race rules - we have to be as we have a duty of care to thousands of people, running, marshalling, spectating, and just going about their business in the place they live.
In addition to the ban on in-ear players, there is a specific rule that disallows wheeled vehicles so please no buggies.
Hope everyone has a great race and we have a quiet time with everyone respecting race rules accepted upon entry.
I have heard they are a nightmare ... have to get train back to norwich so will be keeping an eye but happy to get later train if it means less stress and can take in the day better ....
I'm definitely doing the Norwich half again this year - my 1st time last year - and training is already ahead of last year so am hoping to beat 2hrs 45!!!
Loved the race last year expect for the "incline" at about 11 - 12 miles that was a killer!!!!
Wonder if we'll have those beautiful rainbows again this year?
I am looking at running norwich this year. I did the ipswich half last month. Just wondered if anyone has done both and can compare as a couple of the hills at ipswich were really bad and i struggled quite badly.
I see from above theirs an incline just wondered how bad it was?
Not bad at all Andy. I've not done Ipswich but I have done around 10 HMs and it's probably the most flat I've done with the exception of Peterborough which has a total incline of 2 inches.
Here's my dilemma, I would really like to do this but I'm coming back from a knee injury and at the mo I'm doing 5.5 - 6 miles in approx 55 mins, so my questions are : do you think this HM maybe too soon? and is it always necessary to follow a training plan as I've been trying to increase my mileage by a small amount each week instead of doing all the speed and hill stuff etc.
Thanks for that Mr Spoons. Think im going to run it then. I've only ever done 2 half marathons. Silverstone in 2008 in 2:15 and Ipswich last month in 2:07. Am hoping to go under 2 hours for the first time.
So Just entered for the race. Quite excited just need to start training now. Think tomorrow will be my first run in about a month. How is everyone elses training going?

Linds
It starts at the showground, mostly rural and goes through a few villages. A 2lap course.
