Over the last few months I've been running round the coast of Britain with a large community individuals who happen to enjoy running... even in atrocious weather conditions and terrains! I bet you have been following our relay on our stretch threads and the general thread and know all about it so I won't bore you further...
The thing is, we're nearing the finish / start point in a few weeks' time... what do I do after that? I don't want to laze around and get fat!
So... I would like to do more running around the country... in organised races like marathons, ultras perhaps, or even half marathons, etc. That's why I've started this thread, for people plan my schedule and take me on a different kind of tour of the country...
As with everything, there are rules in place to protect me from getting lost.... now, who's going to put the rules here...?? I'm off to bed...
Comments
We met ~7 weeks ago in Lynemouth, and stumbled to Blyth together.
I'm planning a short (26.2mile) jaunt around Kielder water on 17 October; there will be lots of others there too... If you've finished/ recovered by then you are welcome to join me!
Matt
Hi duskmatt! Of course I remember you.... am just getting sorted for a run later... you know, lots of tea and bickies...
Hmmm... I think October may be a tat too soon - we might not finish till the 3rd week in October, not forgetting we're hopping across to Northern Ireland for a little jaunt with the lads & ladettes there...
Think the earliest I'm available would be in November... and if I'm not wrong I think Daddy Woody is taking me on a little trip to some marathon in November and I may be going down south again for a bit of adventure at the Hellrunner...
Come one, brainy guys & gals...you know the drill... let everyone else know the rules - do's and don't's type thingy.... or at least discuss here and agree...
characteristically quiet here. I don't know I would have thought that the rules would have been set of something. Sorry about that Barry, I have pushed for it as you know.
Hope this thread does not go the way of the "Roll of Honour" thread. It is like the spirit is only there when the running is involved-shame.
I may be running the England Kilomathon on 20 Mar 2011 - so would like to take Barry for an outing to Derby-Nottingham (if I do, that is...)
There, Barry - your first booking for 2011!
Just a thought, but maybe we need to put up the few rules that we've already thought of and a new rule regarding popular raceses where more than one runner may want to run with Barry.
My thought was, if runners don't want to, or can't run with each other then we may have or need a ballot. (or a priority system for certain coasters such as runnaholic and others who are well known and put in a lot of hard work). Also a ballot if two people want to run with Barry on the same day but in different events.
Also - a priotity for British events - this due to traveling times across the world. If there is plenty of time for travel then fine but if Barry is running a marathon on Sunday in Dublin, then a Marathon in Chicago the next Sunday and has to get from Dublin to Luton to Glasgow to Chicago in a week then he may just wind up with one big headache.
I have put some thought into the logistics of this - so am really happy for folk to post a desire to run a race with Barry next year - but at this stage appreciate that no garentee can be made that it will be doable.
Anyway need to start a database (soonish) of all expected runs over the forthcoming 12-14 months.
oh - I know that not all marathons are here - but if anyones interested

Just my thoughts, I'm sure others have their own.
some good thoughts there bikermouse
this is why we need to thrash stuff out pretty soon so it is clear to all on the offset. I will join in the debate but an taking a week off. Apparently feeling rough and tired as had a virus too
We should allow one race each I reckon. there are enough coasters to do that. We have to be fair. So that is why we need rules now (not next week) an
Well as we seem to have a pretty certain end date of 23rd Oct, we can start taking Barry Bookings
Please please get the rules sorted bwtween us.
1/ have to be a coaster or NI runner if they want to do their coast
2/ Have to use "Special Delivery" to post Barry on (he is valuable) or pass on by hand
3/ Priority to Britaish Events
4/ A ballot for Barry if two runners are doing races on same date.
5/ Marathon only??
feel free to modify and adapt
great TP -I hope one of our listy types has taken note of that as first request for VLM I am too scatty to do that stuff.
BM - it would be good and right for to have firsat refusal on doing a "diary website" , I am sure all would agree, if you want to of course
Trying to be funny, are we Bikermouse? Runnaholic said 'race' - Coasters relay is not a race!
So Mouse! How are you doing? Still mapping lots and lots of runs??? What race are you going to take me to?
Hello Woodentop.
Race - maybe South Downs Marathon? Something hilly seeing as how much you like hills. I'll have to see once I get back into running.
seems we need to be a UKA to get an invite for the South Downs relay and I can't see that happening.
Why not? Are you not a UKA? It's not much, you know... are you too tight with your purse?
Relay, did you say?? I know someone else likes relays... no, not just the Welsh... think you know who... ?
That should read UKA club. Coasters are not a club or UKA. I was hoping for a team of coasters to be able to run the relay.
I am UKA through my club, but that won't help.
Why can't coasters gain club status? I think perhaps we should What do we have to do to be one?
On subject of realy the Welsh food festival have tweeted an invitation of sorts for Barry to join them next year (I think September) for their Leek Relay covering Welsh coast.. We should try to include races from all over. A good promo vehicle for both events.
thoughts please!?
oh buggery bollocks we've been spammed.
I hate spam at the best of times but brunch on Saturday, thats just taking the pee.
Hot chocolate and brioche! And begone spammer!
Having negotiations with Leek Relay folk re Barry doing it next September. That should be plopped in the diary.
where are the rules?
We all need a say in things so it maintains its collectively run flavour during next year.
Go onto the UKA website and see how to set up a club and whats involved time wise as well as financial.

Praps we should mail someone BM. Just wondering at the cost of it. Does it have to cost? If so how much?
finking caps on
I'm happy with the rules already outlined. Don't know if anyone wants to addd anything.
Have mailed ea and got a reply - no mention of cost.
Its £50 per annum to affiliate to EA if I remember correctly.
If you're already a member of another running club that is affiliated to EA you cannot race against them, even in a relay. If your 1st claim club is not taking part in that race then you can. You'd also have to let EA know who your 1st and 2nd claim clubs are.
