gareth - I've not done anything like this before either. I can plod 12 miles on the road but I expect I'll be walking/wading/scrambing through most of this. Finish time doesn't matter - its just getting to the end without drowning in the bog of doom or getting stuck at the bottom of the hills of hell. Its just for a laugh. Come on in.
The course has never been exactly been measured. I'm sure last year was no more than 8 or 9 miles!! You will be fine, i've done it for the last few years with a mob from work and half of them can't run a bath let alone run a race. It's the best fun you can have with your clothes on.
I was with a guy last year who was wearing a Garmin - although it cut out a few times the overall mileage was just over 11. In my opinion, if you're doing it for a laugh then as long as you can plod 8 or 9 miles on the road you'll be OK - it's hard - really hard - but there's so many slow people (me included) that you're always in a group
awesome was worried about not being fit enough just to get round or if its quite a serious event n would be frowned upon if i had to walk a bit lol.....
I've signed up...first ever experience of trail/offroad running. Only run the standard on road races, mostly tnes and half marathons. Thought it was about time I really challenged myself but now i'm getting a bit nervous! Fit enough, yes but am I in danger of being run down by the fierce and furious weekend warriors? As a not very tall, kinda on the slight side girl, am I going to get trampled in the Bog of Doom? And most importantly, do I need to leave my lucky tutu at home? Any hints and tips on survival tactics from seasoned pros, most welcomed......please...?!
Oh and what sort of gear do I wear? Aside from the tutu of course....I have trail running shoes but no idea of what else is necessary. I mean waterproof gear seems kind of pointless ( or does it help to stay as dry and warm as possible until I hit the inevitable mud and water hazards ...
Lucky tutu will save you! Generally I have just gone for wearing old running kit and accepting it will get very muddy etc. Seriously, I normally wear leggings, long sleeve base layer and then a t-shirt but hey ... anything goes. (Can you give me the address of a good tutu supplier).
Thanks for the advice, Northern bloke...tutu will be packed along with the base layers! And I just happen to have a spare black one size fits all tutu that i'm most happy to bring along...not sure if the tutu will be a help or a hindrance in the Bog of Doom...maybe useful as a buoyancy device? ( yep that Bog of doom has me just a little concerned...!)
Not just a southern softie but an australian to boot! Can't get much more southern than that. Used to dealing with extreme heat but extreme cold and extreme wet? Thought I needed to toughen up a bit before I hit the northern trails.....
Pink tutu sounds fun but I might stick to my subtle black and white one- don't want to stick out too much!
The northern one wasn't cold at all last year malice.h. In fact, the water felt almost warm! I think the southern Bog of Doom is a bit deeper than ours, but it will be fine I'm sure. It's unlikely they will be dredging the bottom of it for your dead body!! As a 5 ft 3 female I was fine. It's just a muddy ditch, with people lining the banks cheering!
If you lose your shoe in a swamp, make sure it's not the one with the chip on! You could do it with one shoe, but no chip, no time!
Just have FUN with it. And don't start off too fast. I was last for a while, but overtook quite a few as they had started too fast.
Such a relief to hear that 5ft 3 females are fine as that describes me exactly! Thanks for the advice- I'll be sure to take it easy to start so as not to get trampled in the first mad rush. Note to self- check for both shoes after the swampy bits.....( do people really lose shoes?!)
Five ft 3 females are fine in the northern Bog of Doom.....but the southern one is five ft 4 deep.......hehehe........Teasing....sure it's not too deep. Check out past photos.

Just checked out the results for last year. I'm going to be in the last half dozen if anyone cares to join me at the back? Preferably a tall strong 6ft male who is willing to give a piggy back to a short female accross the bog.

I'm in for Sunday too! Hopefully with a friend of mine. I'd luv to meet up with other RW's runners too if there are many taking part!
I'm currently trying to work out the best way to travel there from Clapham. Perhaps a bit far too cycle
Really fancy this but not sure i could finish it lol....have only done 4 or 5 10k events so far and only run 11 miles once!
the bog will be warm after everyone in front of me has peed in it.
