I've done a couple of the manchester Shine walk Marathons and to be honest they are harder to recover from, take longer to complete, and hurt more. I just wanted to run from half way onwards, how do you manage to walk them without getting totally peed off
This is a great idea, 12 in 12, I'm OK for Jan, Mar, Apr, May Jun, but what are the options for Feb, I've heard Cotswold is a hard run, Cambridge is not yet organised, or Belvoir also a hard slow slog, any recommendations or other options?
I've finally got an email from CUH&H - and the Cambridge Boundary Run is set for Sun 4th March - which is a pain as I've already booked my Redruth hotel for the Duchy marathon (although I've yet to post off my cheque for the entry for the run itself!)
So that leaves Feb with either Belvoir or Cotswold, neither of which appear to have a medal. I'm shying away from Cotswold as I'm already doing Glos in Jan, and was hoping to travel about a bit more. Going back to the same county a few weeks later feels a bit "samey" to me, even if the runs are totally different.
Maybe I should dust off the passport and go to Malta instead? Need to decide soon though, February is fast approaching...
I'm doing Belvoir too as my 2nd of the 12 - looks interesting especially the tea and cake - very sociable!! Hope to see some of you there! Although, it's only a week after that i do Steyning stinger so will def be taking it very slowly!
If you are looking for one in July you could try the 'Over the Edge Marathon', its off road on undulating but very runnable terrain. A linear route finishing in the home of the modern olympics, Much Wenlock. It will form part of the Much Wenlock Olympian Games and all finishers will recieve an Olympian medal in 2012.
What more could you want?
The full details and entry info will be available early in the New Year, i'll keep you posted.

Hi Hannahsmom and everyone else posting on this site
training's been going ok except managed to twist ankle at christmas and had a stinking cold this weekend so have missed a couple of the long long runs - am hoping that a comfortable 20 miler in just over 3 hours bodes well for a sub 4:30 finish........
for the Gloucester marathon - is anyone staying at the little thatch hotel? would be great to meet up with any who are to share in the pre-race jitters
way2slow we're staying in the Gloucester travelodge, not sure how far away that is from the little thatch hotel, however we do have an entourage of my kids with me so i expect we may be finding a pizza express place to eat on the sat night if u wanted to meet up at all
there seems to be more added to the cheer squad as we speak so may end up eating here to make life easier but thinking of giving The Pilot Inn a try in the evening perhaps for a drink so i can work out where it is, as i believe you pass it whilst running and we might set up base there to cheer you on and then walk down to where you loop round 3 times
going to work out tomorrow night properly what i'll be doing but the Pilot Inn features heavily in my plans lol
will text u when we arrive
You will have lots to talk about with my bf doing 12 in 12
Rather than 1 a month why not double up in the spring and autumn period when there are more available? With the correct training you may not need as much recovery as you think. Also, have a look at short ultra's and multi-day events.
My current list is:- March - Steyning Stinger (great off road race) April - Brighton, London and Shakespeare May - Richmond Park and/or Halstead July - Fairlands Valley Challenge and Adidas Thunder Run (Solo or Pair) Sept - Lea Valley (if it is on) and/or The Toad Challenge (3 days 30 miles a day so counts a 3 in my book) Oct - Abingdon Nov - Luton
HannahsmomUK - Yes got into Brighton, London and Shakespeare. Wasn't planned. Booked to do Brighton at last years expo. Applied for London via the ballot and was rejected, along with my cousin who lives in South Africa. He decided to come over anyway, as said he would do Shakespeare, so I booked that as well. I then won a place for London. Did Brighton and London last year so another one should not make that much difference
If you get a Virgin Marathon Credit Card, every time you use it they enter you into a prize draw. That's how I won my London place. Have also won in the past, £250 worth of Adidas clothing and one to one training with the Yellings (which I converted to a PA at my Club).
OMG lucky you wish I had known that, may have to go and get a Virgin Marathon credit card lol, mind you I am hoping once i've done London next time ( if there is a next time ) I might try other marathons for some more experience, i'd like to try Liverpool because my bf who ran it last year said the tunnel experience coming out to the sound of some drummers was the best experience ever and like nothing before, so I would like to experience that but it is NOT an easy one!!!!
Yesterday at Glos was tough, and I got a quite expected personal worst (thanks to a break in training during December thanks to a chest cold among other things). I was seriously in two minds whether to even attempt the marathon, but in the end decided doing it slowly was better than not doing it at all. It's a good course, even with the hills which get steeper on each lap. I'd do it again one day, as with the right training (and a following wind) it could be a reasonable course for a PB... (with the right training!)
I'm taking a break in Feb I reckon (since Cambridge is in March this year). Number two for me will be Duchy in March.
thought you did great Ulen, i was going pretty well until about 20 miles when my kidney's decided to let me know i'd not drank enough water . Know what you mean about the hills - was definately walking them by the final lap. managed about 4:15 in the end which i was more than happy with. good luck for the Duchy - my next is seville in feb - have a feeling it'll be hot...hot....hot.......
so how is everyone's challenge going W2slow how did Seville go
EG how did cotswold go ( sorry I missed you )
Next one for Ulen is Cornwall only a few weeks away now
( we're both doing the silverstone half got my running number through today woo hoo )
EG July, there is the Boddington Marthon 1st July - Glouceshire Hamsterley Forest Marathon 1st July - Durham Lakeland trails Marathon 1st July Cumbria ( this has got a good rating, think its around coniston water )

Rather foolishly I've set myself the task of trying to complete 25 in 2012
However, I'm going to do a fair few of the LDWA events as a walker, so hopefully won't be too knackered.
I did 17 in 2011, and found it easy and tough in equal measures.
Some tips:
Don't underestimate how tired you will be on the Monday or Tuesday after an event, try and book strategically placed weeks off to recover.
Eat and sleep well, but also try and incorporate some form of cross training into your routine.
However, it is do-able as a club colleague of mine has done 35 in a twelve month period.
Good luck.
And here is my list:-
A Reserve Event is one that I could do, if illness strikes or if I feel too tired.
Fingers crossed.
Seriously, you just keep plodding along and enjoying the views, and yakking.

Looks like it has to be Belvoir. I'm already in for Gloucester too
I looked at Belvoir, but opted for the South Shropshire Circular instead

At only £8 and around 25miles down the road, I can overlook the fact that it's not a marathon.
