Hi KW The list is collated from previous submissions - "I might..." entries were left out, and I'm sure as the Advocaat flowed the list snowballed into events I thought people were doing (which is why a few have no names against them), plus I know I must have missed a few (sorry Kaz, for example). Now it's open to all to post what they're planning.
Am doing the VLM in April and have been looking at the sub 4.30 progs. The Ultimate prog and the garmin ready for these times are quite different - the garmin one seems to build much quicker. I was up to about 10 miles before Christmas and have been ill since so haven't got out much. Am confused as to which prog may be best to do?
Wow... a lot of running has been going on and a very impressive 2012 race list. Thanks for that, Teknik.
I did 15miles yesterday after 2 days of no running and eating/ drinking way too much. Felt sluggish but got through it in a respectable time and hopefully back to normal. Decided not to start P&D until the second week of Jan as have xc races on the first two Saturdays of Jan and don't fancy doing 16 miles with 8 @MP after one of them...
Working from home this week so should manage to sneak out for a few cheeky runs and on Saturday it's the 5mile New Year's Eve race . Have never raced 5 miles so will end up the year with a pb no doubt.
Hi Daytime Runner. 10 miles at Xmas is fine. Is this your first marathon? Have you done a half marathon? How long you been running? How many runs per week? Etc. give us some more details please and will advise accordingly....
Im planning on doing loch ness in october next year.
Bit of background.Started running in october 2010,done a few few 5 and 10ks,pbs of 22.37 and 46.20.
Was due to do myfirst half in october this year and had built my long runs to 12 miles until sciatica put me out of action for 3 months until end of november.was gutted as all my training pointed to a 1.45 half time and i felt that it was doable.Anyway been back running 6 weeks now and mileage has been quite low although building it up steadily.Any top end speed that i had just isnt there at the moment although i am confident i will get back to my previous level. So the plan is to get the base fitness up with lots of easy miles then target the Alloa half marathon in march to gauge my fitness, then start a 16 week programme in the summer for loch ness.A few people have said to me to just aim to get round my first mara ,but i feel if i can get back to previous fitness then sub 4 would be a realistic target to aim for.Maybe even do the Dundee half in july to give me a better idea if imin sub 4 shape.Does this sound a bit ambitious or realistic in the time frame that i have?
Hello all I e been reading this thread with interest. I'm training for Brighton marathon which will be my first marathon. Have 4 vlm rejections so thought I'd get off my bum and get on with it elsewhere! I've done quite a few half marathons and am training for around 4 hour finish although will be happy with under 5! Just been out for a run so am feeling virtuous. Am ruining it now though with tea and crimbo chocs!
A good confidence building session today for me. 17.12m in 2.00.56. First 8.5m at 7.22 av pace and remainder around 6.45 average. Felt really comfortable apart from miles 15 and 16 which were along an exposed coastline into the teeth of a gale
Spoons- 15 miles XC... 7.5 almost kiled me a couple of weeks ago. Impressive.
Teknik- lol... sure it wasn't an optical illusion?
YC- Welcome. 4 h sounds very realistic to me. Your 5k and 10k times are very close to mine and I managed 3.42 in a mara a couple of months ago. Lots of time to improve.

Jason - why do you think you need a confidence building 17 in December ? More likely a road to burnout 17. Careful mate, just think carefully about the why I am doing these sessions..... ?
Another steady 10.5 for me this morning, nothing special just base in my place.
Fiona - I have a busy schedule all the way to June 3rd
Jason - whatever you say(you don't need to stretch anything), just be careful mate PLEASE....
Chest is fine as long as I stay easy so got a shock after going a little hard on Monday so have backed off again all week. Miles are ticking along nicely.
Welcome to all the new people
DR - a number of the approaches are quite badly flawed so the best advice I can give you is pick a schedule and stick to it, you are only likely to go really badly wrong if you over mix and match.

Well, since it's almost 2012 thought I'd come back here for a peek - things are busy!!
Nice to see all those ultras Gobi!
11 miles nice and easy today 8:15mm, quite a few hills in there too.

Hello everyone
Wow... a lot of running has been going on and a very impressive 2012 race list.
This looks like a good thread.
Welcome Daytime Runner and Young Cowboy - I'll defer to the serious athletes on this thread.
Mon - ached after my 13 with 8 MP - too early for me so I agree with your decision. Good luck with the race...
Rest day for me. 80 squats and 80 press-ups. I think I saw a stomach muscle afterwards - although it's been so long I could be mistaken...
Welcome to the new folk. My tip if your first it to try and run 5 times a week, run slow and built to max of 4 hrs on long run. Run them ssllooww..
A simple but nice 7.5 miles today...
Afternoon all and welcome to the new folk
A good confidence building session today for me. 17.12m in 2.00.56. First 8.5m at 7.22 av pace and remainder around 6.45 average. Felt really comfortable apart from miles 15 and 16 which were along an exposed coastline into the teeth of a gale
Quick update - 15 miles XC with some tough hills thrown in this afternoon. All nice and slow.
Teknik - lol re: the stomach muscle
Just over 8 miles this evening in 1:10 which makes this month the biggest mileage month I've ever done.
MF- nice way to sum up the year
Spoons- 15 miles XC...
