easy 4 miles this morning and a 10k row planned for later today at the work gym. 7 weeks to go before the snowdon marathon so I'm moving into 'rocky' training mode...not sure about the raw eggs regime though!! jackson seems to have recovered from his injury so man and dog are both in good shape at the moment. birkmyre - i still get out early even when i'm not working unless I've had a really late night or a heavy drinking session!!
Sorry, haven't posted for ages but have been keeping up with the chat. I'm v.impressed with the long mileage and sooper early starts. 6am feels almost tardy
Glad to hear Jackson is full recovered & that everyone's training is going so well.
Glad there others are out early even when off work.
Gemma: Just going to train solidly for a couple of months. Aim to get my weight down and 10k down. I have to do 2 faster fartlek sessions and build my longer run up. The more I run, will hell me get fitter and burn off weight.
A couple of street lights are out on this part of my route, so did my Fartlek efforts much faster than usual through that bit. I was on the grass verge next to the road. Fortunately no cars passed at that point !
I'm tapering for a marathon on Sunday so am missing a few early morning runs this week, going to see what wildlife I can find in the pool at 6.30 instead.
good luck for the marathon! which one? i do love a good marathon!
birkmyre- gotcha, yeah hope the training goes well then. yikes running with cars behind me gives me jippers! hence enjoying central london at 4am- all you get is cabbies and lorry deliverys. today that was pretty much all the wildlife i saw, that and a few wandering early bird workers...who didnt look fully awake!
slow chug this am after long run on sunday, legs fine but just not speedy yet, must keep stretching i can feel tight hamstrings coming!
Even thinking about an ice bath makes me shiver, the closest I've got is having my foot in a mop bucket full of ice whilst in the shower to sort out a dodgy ankle, we must do it for the glamour!
i think im getting used to it....i dont make it too icy however, i cant do the 'full' ice bath..im working up to that...the worst bit is the first minute then you feel it less. it does work tho!
apparently paula radcliffe sits in a large dustbin in the garage and fills it up with water then pours buckets of ice in it....and stays there for a good 30 mins.....dont fancy it tommy???
Haven't done an ice bath yet but always have a hot shower followed by a cold one when I get back from my morning run. Sets me up for the day! Nearest I've been to immersing myself in ice was swimming in the sea off Ireland on Christmas eve. Floating on my back looking up at the stars was something special - until I started to lose all sensation in my feet that is!!
Kate - good luck with the marathon on Sunday. I won't be doing it myself as I'm taking my son to Uni in Nottingham. Next year maybe!
ha! Chris, shoulda taken him up a weekend earlier and then could have combined it with the notts marathon, its a great one, ive done it a few times before. great crowds.
yeah i do like a good hot shower then usually have ice bath after so i can bare it!! though i am temped by your 'natural' ice bath!
Hi Chris, I looked at the races on that link They all look really hard especially the Picnic marathon and the christmas knacker. Not sure I want to put myself in that sort of pain but you never know
I'm still in two minds on the Greensand, if you don't make it to the quarter point in the allowed time they turn you back, so could always do a nice slow half instead.
apparently paula radcliffe sits in a large dustbin in the garage and fills it up with water then pours buckets of ice in it....and stays there for a good 30 mins.....dont fancy it tommy???
Gemma - have you heard that apparently paula radcliffe sits in a large dustbin in the garage and fills it up with water then pours buckets of ice in it....and stays there for a good 30 mins?!!!
Kate - I've done the Leith Hill Half Marathon a couple of times which is run on the same course as the Greensand Marathon and organised by the same people. I'm sure it'll be a great event but it's too close to the Snowdon Marathon for me to consider. I ran Athens last year which was just two weeks after Snowdon and I really suffered - struggling round in 4hrs 45. So I think I need to leave a longer recovery time between events!!
Our office heating has been put on and it's roasting/stuffy in our place. Iced bath ? At some points this morning I'd have actually considered it Well perhaps not ,on second thoughts.
Gemma: Faster efforts this morning all right, re the thought of cars coming and I was running facing them with a flo vest on !

It's the Farnham Pilgrims, first year they're running it but it's a really nice, if a bit lumpy route.
Hope you're feeling speedy again soon Gemma.
sounds great, must be quite nice testing out the route of marathon as its first year. hope not too hilly! let me know how it goes
