London Marathon 2012: Runners and Supporters

  • Hi Lorraine! Rock over to group 4, tell em I sent you image
  • It's getting quite exciting now.  My supplies are beginning to turn up and I am going to start pom pom training later today.  Last year I didn't train enough and ended up with terrible blisters and couldn't move my arms the next day.  This year I am going to Compeed my hands in preparation.

i can't see my name on the list for group 5 with Mike
Dave, I'm not sure which list it is you're looking at, but you're on my list of runners. You've posted a few times on the group 5 thread and I've replied. We are expecting you. But by all means call in at group 6 too and get double rations of jelly babies!

I can't remember who asked... but just in case:

I read in the weekly newsletter about people following you online during the big day:

Select and follow runners in real time on race day by searching the live results facility. You can follow your favourites and track their progress throughout the race. The live tracking service is only available on race day and will be accessible through the home page of the Virgin London Marathon website.

  • Hi guys, not sure if I'll have the chance to get back on the forums until after the Brighton Marathon. Eeeek!

One of my friends sent me this link to London Marathon Inspiration which I thought might help calm any pre-race nerves, I read it last week (substituting 'London' for 'Brighton') when I was having a complete panic attack about being unprepared and it calmed me down. Also made me tear up a bit but I'm a wuss. I'm 100% sure I am going to cry on Sunday!

Have a good weekend everyone, remember to take it easy - no sneaking in "one more 14 mile run" - just do enough keep your legs ticking over and relax. I'll be back early next week to help with finalising all the details for Support Group 4 image

  • Loving that Xine - thank you image
  • Somebody post the one about 'when you stand on the line ...' just so I can have a good cry and make a right twonk of myself at work.  You know the one .... somebody posts it every year and every year I well up like a girlie ... ooop, I am a girlie image
  •  "When you stand on the Start Line, you join the club. When you stand at the Starting Line you earn your membership. Millions dream of being where you are. You are no longer a dreamer. You are a doer.

Thousands more started a training programme but never finished. They started with the same enthusiasm as (or more than) you. They started with more or less the same physical gifts or disadvantages as you did. They had no more and no less reason to be successful than you.

But somewhere along the way, they lost that enthusiasm. Somewhere on the road or on the track or treadmill, they decided that the rewards just weren't worth the effort. They decided that they could live without finding their limits, without challenging their expectations of themselves and without taking a hard look at their image of themselves.

You didn't. If you’re standing at the Start Line, you've not only accepted the challenge, but you've also beaten back the demons. You've conquered your imagination and self-imposed limitations. You've gone further, got stronger and become tougher than you ever imagined."

  • Unless you are Katie Price of course TP when it won't apply image
  • I can corfirm that I am not Katie Price, I am not a funny shade of orange and I do not have masshoove fake boobs image
  • Xine - GOOD LUCK for Brightonimage
  • I don't understand the reference to KP. Is she not doing VLM anymore or something? Saw her at Brighton half.
  • I think it's probably to do with her lack of training and effort at previous VLMs
  • Glad you enjoyed the London Marathon Inspiration article at:

    London Marathon Inspiration

If you are running and dont want the hassle of organising your spectators then there is also a guide for spectators on the website:

  • Hello, can I join in?!

My predicted time is 3.45 - Is there anything else you need to know?!

  • Depends what you need Laura, if it's just a wave then we'll wave, if it's picking up gels or other fuel for later in the race then let me know and I'll assign you to a support group, likewise if it's support or banter, please join in one of the groups.

I am thinking with a 3.45 predicted time that you'll not be stopping for a chat image

  • Haha this is true, I am rather keen not to stop, but was hoping to pick up a "special" this unlikely to work given the fact I don't want to stop? If not, don't worry, I'll give a bottle to one of my supporters around mile 17 and hope for a wave from you lovely people!
  • No, that would work fine as we'll have a specific spot with lots of balloons etc so you should spot us easier than a single supporter.  You'll need to leave the drink at the Expo with your name, number and Group on it .... pop over to Group 2 and leave me your details - name, number, time to Mile 17 and what you're wearing.

Bear in mind that it's very busy and you will have to look out for us (right hand side of the road just after the water station, just before Mudchute DLR station) as we've no chance of spotting you image

  • Not long now eh?

    Everyone enjoying the taper?

thats extremely kind of u  - first we got to get there - that at the moment is 99 % on

then when we arrive i got to get Phillip  done - that might be easy, it might be a challenge

then i try and have some me time,

of course i wont want to intrude on others supporters fun-

  • Hiya I know its getting close but is it too late to join a group and drop some goodies off to keep me going on the day - in 2007 I remember you bringing a smile to my face when it was most needed. I am a slow 51/2 to 6 hour runner so with you about 4 hours I should think. wearing stroke assoc kit with ANN on the front and probably with a face like a beetroot - thanks A

  • bikermum - pop over to Group 5 and tell them I sent you.  They'll attend to your needs on the day.
