meerkat - you're not bloody kidding mate! Gulp, hiccup, swallow nervously and feel slightly sick at the same time!!!

Rundown - you're a flippin fruit!! (but a fast fruit at that!)

(can you tell how very jealous I am haha)

    :-D

Tara - that makes two of us!

Didn't Mr. Brasher say there had been about 4,000 entrants? Should be a lot less congested than the Nike run...

Anyone seen a forecast for Sunday yet?
  • Options
could someone please post the location for the forum picnic? Thanks.

    Maybe nobody knows!

First post on this thread. I too waited for my number and t-shirt to arrive. Finally it came. After the wait on the website for the t-shirt design, i was a a tad disappointed (no mention of Richmond Park), and my gf now has another running tent to wear.

I think the point which Sweatshop can't get away from is that they are a purely commercial organisation, and the race is for charity. The two are always going cause grumbles if things don't go smoothly.

The cost is way too high, that has been agreed. Not being timed in a race with one of the most famous british runners names attached to it is also absurd.

I think Sweatshop are being a little coy about how much publicity this gets them. Is the corresponding advertising spend required to reach so many runners directly being factored into the event?

I make no secret of the fact that i find my local Sweatshop (teddington) indifferent to runners needs, and this seems to be the feeling of our club memebers in general. i now always travel the extra distance to St James' in Westminster to go to Run And Become.

Anyway, looking forward to a good race, just remember to start your watch as you cross the start line!

    Rich,

As The Sweatshop was founded by Chris Brasher, I can’t think of a ‘purely commercial organisation’ better suited to arranging his memorial race.

My understanding is that the race was the idea of his son (Hugh), to honour his father and raise funds for his favourite charity.

If it wasn’t for Chris Brasher, I (and thousands of others) would never have started running.

A few quid is a small price to pay.

Hope to see you all there

    TT

Not knocking the sentiment of the race, otherwise why would i enter? I just posted after reading through a large part of this thread, and agreed with a fair few of the concerns raised. I think a fair few people will reconsider another SS event if it's not timed.

Charities are very competitive now, just look at the marathon places they give away, or even the Rhino Challenge 10k in Kent. If you have a chioce and one is more money (not knowing how much goes to the charity), then you expect a lot from it, rightly or wrongly.

Anyway, the route of the race is part of one of our winter training runs, and Petersham is local to us, so it is the perfect combination for me.

As I said on the other thread, I was really impressed at the way Sweatshop exchanged my medium t-shirt for a small by return of post! But I do think timings for the first 50 only is disappointing. I wouldn't even mind a realtively inaccurate timing (my watch will be the accurate one) but I'm curious to know how I compared to others.

I'd love to do a sub-50m but these days I'll be happy with a sub-55m. Number is 2902 - not sure how to add that to the running list?

Richmond Park is one of my favourite places, and apart from having to set off at some ungodly hour to get there, I'm really looking forward to it.
  • Options
for me it is the ideal build up to the cardiff marathon in october, i suppose i wouldnt choose a "view" to support but there you go
i am looking forward to it

    Showers forcast for sunday.

Does anybody know if there will be somewhere to change afterwards. I have to get out of my sweaty gear asap.
  • Options
Indeeed - looks like rain. Good for running (well better than all the heat we've had in the past week) but not so sure about the forum picnic!
  • Options
    Blooming typical!!!!

Firstly, I'm sorry I've not been around much this week but there is a lot going on at Jump towers just recently and I haven't seemed to have any spare brain.

Matthew is correct, the weather on Sunday is set to be the worst yet with rain and low temperatures.

It would be nice to all get together before hand and have a mass bike park so how about meeting under the trees near the baggage tent?

I will do a recce today after school, they should probably have the tents up by now, especially as it looks like rain tomorrow.

I hope to be there at about 10am and will be wearing my big URWFRC blue and yellow shirt. Mr J and I look just like we do on the piccie but a bit browner :-)

anyonw know what we do with bags? Blurbs says mark number on bag and there will be places to leave stuff. Any old bag? and how to number?

What say we forget all the moans about this race (I've had as many as anyone!) and just remember why we all signed up for it.

Chris Brasher was a man who made a huge impact on many of our lives through the London Marathon, often without us even knowing it! When we all assemble on Sunday, let's just enjoy running and remember a remarkable man.

Who cares about times, cost or any of that nonsense?! Run and enjoy...
  • Options
I agree Octopus. Lets hope the day is not over shadowed by disorganisation and commercialism.

    Lets run!!! ;-)

  • Options
seconded octopus - at the end of the day we should all just get on and enjoy it

I may not run, I have just developed a twinge in R Calf, but will delay decision until tomorrow. I will be there because Mr Ceal (Old bones)is running.

    hope you're ok

I've sneezed a bit this afternoon -which is probably nowt but TS has had a foul bug

    anyway

do I get the impression that the course will have mile markers rather than km?

am I right in thinking that I need to run 9m40s miles to do a 60 min 10k?

Sorry about the repeat posts but I can't seem to get 'Gav's Dad' directly underneath the line above. My I.T. skills are rubbish. You'd think that my university fees should be going towards something. Oh well at least the information's up there. Good luck tomorrow everybody. I hope to see many of you in the tent tomorrow. Probably a good thing we have a tent as it's definitely gonna rain at some point tomorrow. Enjoy.

top of a tent I think.

It has gone seriously cold in last half an hour compared to the temps we have become used to.

I am off to Sainsbury's for picnic food but I think it may be a wash out tomorrow. So will buy stuff we can eat on the train/bus.
  • Options
No tent I'm afraid as I have been seriously disorganised :-(

How ever I will set up camp under the trees near the baggage tent. I will be wearing a big blue and yellow forum shirt and will have a bicycle with a big yellow trailer (for Jumpet transport).

I have no idea what the weather will be like as today it was baking and freezing in turn!!!

I will prepare a picnic but reserve bringing it til I see the weather.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!!!
