Foo - I'd recommend Silverstone..... But I've never run Reading!
There are no particularly long straights that I remember at Silverstone.
I think I left 1:30 to get to Silverstone from Luton (M1).... And only just made it!! Getting into Silverstone is a nightmare!!! Turn off motorway - traffic jam ;-)
At silverstone it's multiple laps around the circuit track. There's a long walk from the car park to the actual start which is incorporated somewhere in the run. There's plenty of alternating water and luzocade sport drinks stops on route. (from what I remember from last year). The distance markers were frequent and although lack of supporters well organised. Remember to stretch properly before and after thou as if I remember we didn't get a proper warm-up. Good luck hope that helps and see you there.
Smythe I've just sent you an e-mail. If you could e-mail me back at promo_queen2003@yahoo.co.uk rather than the one it will come up on this account that will be great.
I know this is abit early to decide on lifts but is anyone else travelling up from the midlands that could possibly give me a lift up there. Unfortunately didn't realise till now that Smythe is planning to make a quick exit after he finishes the run (sorry to throw you into it). I'll put something towards petrol costs etc.
Jenny, it may not be for quite a while ie 2 or 3 weeks before the run, if I remember correctly. As long as you're sure you're in, don't worry. Did you enter online? If so, you'll have an acknowledgement of some kind.
What time you planning to finish the race in Smythe? I'm from the midlands but if I can get a cheap coach ticket to london I don't mind going from there. Was trying to cut down on expenses and now with full time employment not sure if I can take the monday off. It's a pain when one can't drive :-(
I know ed but if I remember from last year there's no buses on Sunday (day of run) to and from Silverstone to the bus station in northampton so unless you have a car your stuck. That's why I ended up travelling there on the Saturday and spending 2 nights in a b and b. I think we'll need to start a new thread on pick ups etc. I guess if there's no other alternative of getting there I will have to do that again this year (which I'm not looking forward to)
Yes I booked online. I dont seem to have had an acknowledgement via email though. The money has left my account so I have some proof with which to chase it if I dont hear anything soon Thanks RC
Hi all, just been catching up on the messages....was just wondering what you meant by "if you travel with us"?! Are there ways to avoid that horrid car park?!
i'll be doing this for third time, i enjoyed both previous times. warning.. it's freezing!! there is no protection from the wind, last year i drove through a snow shower on the way there. get there early and the parking isn't a problem, leave it late and you'll be sat panicking on the dual carriageway bernie built. haven't entered yet but plenty time.
poppy, how are you?? any news on Cardiff yet? :-))
It was fun gloryboy last year wasn't it. We had a combination of snow, rain and wind all during one race. Great prepartion for the london which erm rained and rained last year......need I go on
have been reading this forum and i'm getting seriously worried ! are all the stories about getting in and out of silverstone true or slightly over the top ?
erm well, if your a fast runner no probs, if you are over say 1.35 for a 1/2 then it could be alittle congested, but take a look at a road map, and depending on where you live, you can turn left out of the car parks and head into stow village, then navigate from there
I finished in 1:57 last year and had no trouble get out. Getting in was a bit of a queue, so don't leave it too late, but to be honest it wasn't that bad.
cheer's legless and john ! having only been to the village of silverstone and not actually the race track , is it unreasonable to park up in the village and walk to the event ? want to get away early because of a session lined up !!!!!!!

Last question, is there tranpsort put on for these larger events? If so where would this be advertised?
Will be there with bells on!
Anyone know when they contact you with details etc?
(I also plan to get round quite quickly;-)
....funny, I thought I was in Northamptonshire....
Thanks RC

When I last ran Silverstone, I got into Silverstone and left girlfriend to park.

queueing for a portaloo along with several hundred other lycra clad fools in arctic conditions!!!!!

Some runners must have missed the start, or gave up all together.
