Did a lovely 6 miler with club tonight and it was very senic. Felt good though. Will do a 2/3 tomorrow and then some speed work on Thursday maybe try a longish run 10/12 miles Saturday.
Anyone doing anything nice over Bank Hol Weekend?
I ordered my FLM pic last week not arrived yet! When I did The Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon last year it took about 3/4 weeks.
Well I'm the same as you fiftyplus, I haven't gone for a run yet either.
I was planning my first jaunt on Tuesday, but a two pint lunch (oh how fun it is to do that again!) ensured that when I got home, I fell akip rather than reached for my trainers!
There's always tomorrow, I suppose!
Not ordered any pix yet. Will probably only get the one stood in front of that finishers board - I'd need to ask the bank manager if I wanted to buy anymore!!! ;-)
And, bad news blog fans - now that FLM has come to an end there's not really much marathon-esque stuff to write about any more... so I've got to come up with a new subject.
Just thought I'd say hi. Anyone thinking of doing any more marathons this year? I see you're doing Edinburgh Helen - was rather tempted but OH is away and so can't really do it with a hectic weekend of kids activities planned.
I'm thinking either Leicester or (maybe) Budapest to see if I can well onto the good side of 4.15. Budapest looks so pretty. The thing I'm worried about is that on 30th Sept it might still be warmish. Anyone know anyone who's done it?
AH: I just got a ballot place for the Loch Ness Marathon on 7th October so very excited about that. I'm SURE it will be cooler than the FLM, but hey, who knows?
BF - how exciting. Would love to do a Scottish one one day (talking as if my knees and hips are completely indestructable which I know they're not!).
How's your ITB? Was it OK during FLM? Mine raised its head going onto Tower Bridge so I just dumped a load of painkillers onto it and I didn't hear a squeak out of it after that. But in a club run on Weds (too fast for me at this stage) it was rumbling. Got to get it sorted somehow.
AH: my ITB has been a lot better since I bought and use 'The Stick'. Got one at expo and it's great for all areas that are tense/tight. I would highly recommend it. My ITB was tender after using it at first though. I guess with decreased mileage now it's not a problem but who knows if it will rear it's ugly head when in the peak of marathon training for Loch Ness?
My physio gave me core stability exercises to do too so think they have helped.
So many people talk about The Stick (sounds so sinister) that I'll have to look into it. Have started running with a club (well, have done one run) and there are quite a few physios who are members so I'm looking forward to getting some advice from someone who specialises in running rather than sports in general. Because I'm doing an autumn mara I want to get it right.
morning all.have been taking it easy on the running front since the mara, but have only had one sponsorship reminder from you lot since-so while a cheque for wellchild is in the post, please tell me where to send the others...
Lunch on Monday 21 sounds great - I've got the day off so anytime/anyplace is fine by me...
Last night I FINALLY got to go for my first run since the marathon!. Could only fit in a brick session (straight off the bike and running...) so legs felt a bit heavy but managed 3.4 miles in 28 minutes so was quicker than it felt! I think the force 10 gale I was running into probably made it feel harder too... Back to the running commute from tomorrow - yippee!
Vella 46380 if you want to laugh at my pics... ;o)
Just logged in again and very pleased to see you are all still there, I so miss a full inbox (even though near the race I had to cancel the alert system as other half got annoyed when 40 emails and all just saying there was another forum entry)
I too am wondering about an autumn marathon as our run club are going to Dublin, which is end of October and hopefully a lot cooler!!!
However, the more I read and speak to people the more confused I am getting as to the effects on the body and whether this is a good idea. I did mara no1 in October 2006 and mara no2 in London and was exceedingly disappointed with my performance or lack of it. On that basis I would like to run Dublin and prove to myself that I can run a sub 4 hour 30 marathon as I had dreamed of for London. Plus a very good mate of mine at run club had a complete nightmare of a marathon in Amsterdam due to knee problems and would be so nice to run in Dublin together and put our respective nightmares behind us and share a great experience.
One of my niggles though is is this a good idea. Overall I think London was down to combination of heat and recent chest infection but could there be an element of dead legs due to 2 maras in 6 months?
I can't believe I'm even asking for advice given I uttered at end on 22nd "Do not let me enter Dublin!!" Of course, in all of this if I can get a place for London 2008 and am fit and healthy to do it I would love to, but they don't cash the cheque until just after Dublin so no guarantee I can banish the London demon by running there again
Nice to hear that were all getting back into the runing again!
I would have loved to have met up for Lunch, but I live in Cheshire (Near Manchester) so I would'nt be able to get down there.
Most of my pics have caught me walking scoop.
Well next race for me is on Sunday 20th May BUPA Manchester 10km which I'm looking forward to.
Are any of you going to apply again for next years London Marathon? I said I would never do one again, but I will be applying cos I want to go and get that 4hr 30min next year.
NT-you shouldn't have any problem with 2 maras in 6 months or even 3 in 12 or 4 in 18 if you managed to get the training in without knackering yourself in some way...if anything the endurance you are building/have built will stand you in good stead for the next set of training.most people recommend no real effort for a couple of weeks,so the micro tears in your muscles heal properly, but after that you should be stronger than before-many runners suggest that the best time for eg a 5 or 10k pb is in the next few weeks... my mental post mara problem is more that its hard now rewind to week one (or even week 10) of an 18 week schedule,ie its quite hard to see merit in a 5 mile run wiothout a marathon beyond it,at the moment-in a few weeks i will be feeling so fat that 5 miles will seem like 15 does today,ie challenging but enjoyable and do-able. mind you,i went to the gym today for core/stability and and came out feeling very fat and reduced to a quivering jelly,so perhaps i will look at buying myself a nice pair of off road shoes and heading into the woods...
i'm with Alex here , if you feel up to it- NT then go for it, Dublin 2001 was my 'comeback Marathon' after my first 2 about 15yr earlier, wonderful experience, very very painful knees- pre orthotics & pre knee strengthening physio, said never again - 4 marathons since 2001 later here we are - how many have you done Alex P ?
i ve got back to club running - 4mile league race last Friday, 6mile hilly run by self last night in drizzle -great, & the FLM DVD has arrived from another RW poster- -renewed enthusiasm. I'm trying to will myself into geting organised for a go at Blackpool marathon on June 3rd - like London it will be a second go on same course for me -so can anly do better ???? happy running folks R
THanks guys, am resting nicely, hardly run since London so hopefully muscles should nicely be healed
we are coming to London again in the morning to watch the Rugby finals, so dear old hubby thinks a good way to beat the demons is to bring the running gear and do a loop incorporating the Embankment and Mall, and try and enjoy it this time, then most likely onwards to DUblin in October and aim again at the 4:30 dream
I know how you feel Alex, next Sunday I have entered Sheffield half with a mate, and the head is still adamant "it's only 13", that should still feel like a long way!!!
I'm thinking long term for my next mara - tho' I have entered a competition for FLM08 already and will put my name in the ballot...
I've started investigating Chi Running - really want to get my knee injury sorted. My physio thinks it's a good idea and had me on the treadmill this morning in my pants and vest (urgh!) to check my form. Perfect when walking - less than perfect when running... Useful feedback!
Rob - my DVD arrived yesterday too - must go and thank Welsh Alex... Hooray for a rainy weekend - I can watch FLM to my hearts content!! )
Alex/Sandra - time/place? I'm happy with whatever suits you guys. Anyone else in London??
am i seriously mad ? as i know London was slow ... i have just signed up for Blackpool marathon in 3weeks time . I went out for a 12.5 mile run with probably over 1000foot of climb yesterday - only a bit sore today , then Buckley runners dinner tonight . off to the Blackpool discussion forum yes i must thank Welsh Alex for the DVD i ve probably got to a 1.5 hrs into it so far !

But I can't help thinking I could do a lot better if the weather had been kinder - so thinking about Dublin in October.
Anyone else considering it?
p.s changed my picture to one of me at Tower Bridge - when I was still going well!
Well I'm the same as you fiftyplus, I haven't gone for a run yet either.

Sorry - rambling.

Glad to see some of you are still out there flying the flag.
Well what do you reckon of giving out your surname and number so we can all put faces to names instead of all those dodgy aviators.
I'll go first but a public warning is needed as its not pretty!!

I'm off to Rome tomorrow for a few days as a reward for the marathon. Can't wait.
There was talk about meeting up some time. Anyone still up for that?

Gillymac - great pix with Big Ben in the background. Certainly one to get framed!
I'm Lennon 11735, for those who like a laugh. Luckily, the snappers managed to capture me in all my great walking poses!!!
It's the day before press day and I'm lucky to get any kind of lunch break, let alone one that means I could venture into the city!
Nice to hear that were all getting back into the runing again!
