    Hello!!

I've been off for a couple of days, so unable to get to the computer. Overall dissapointed with my time - I know, you've got to bear in mind the heat etc, but I know with another year's training (yes, I will be back, no longer a first timer!) and more favourable conditions I will want to slash an hour from my time. I learnt alot though, cocked up breakfast - didn't eat enough and was hungry at 2 miles!! Not an ideal start! Rio, sorry I missed you. At 20 miles I was completely oblivious to whatever was going on around me! The last 6 were the longest and most painful ever. Still - roll on 13 April 2008!!!

Tricky sounds like you are giving yourself a hard time !

You have just run the London marathon Well done!!!!!!
  • Options
You are always learning when you do the marathon. There will always be something that didnt go quite according to plan or you feel you could do better.

But you DID it and that is what matters most. You should be rightly proud

Just realised I didn't say what my time was!!

5.00.52, instead of 4.20!! Dratt - if only I was 53 seconds faster!! (I'm joking)

Has anyone seen their photos ?

I looked and saw some of my photos, but it said only 43% complete so I wouldn't worry just yet Sarah. There are two of me walking though! Very naughty haha! But some are good - they are SOOOOOOOO expensive though!

There's 3 of me and none of them are flattering at all! I'm not very photogenic. I think I'll pass!

You can run already SBS? I'm only just able to walk at a normal pace... Have really suffered but managed to get my jeans on unaided this morning...a proud moment! Have decided to lay off running for a couple of weeks all though I'll be honest I am itching to go!

Morning, how is everyone feeling today? All getting back to normal? I can walk up and down stairs normally now, although can feel how tired my legs are. Still have a niggle or two in my right leg but pretty much back to normal. Still determined to rest this week adn enjoy the alcohol and back to the gym and running next week.

I decided yesterday I am going to apply for the London again for next year and try to do justice with my time. In the meantime am going to have a look for what half maras I would like to do bit later in the year.

Hope you are all feeling good :)

    Hi Laura
Yes I'm not too bad either today - have been for a brisk walk and feel ok...still feeling very mentally tired though!
I too am staying of the running I think for this week and next but wil swim next week. Am going to follow the runners world plan for rehab after a Mara - have a look at the home page. I'm going to plan for a couple of 10ks over the summer and then a half mara in the autumn. Would love to have another stab at London next yearbut have told everyone I'll only do it if I can get someone (or people!) to train and do it with me as I can't face al those early morning wet cold runs on my own again! But for now, well bask in the glory. What are your pics like? I'm not too keen on mine...

    Hello chaps:
You may recall me going on about a pain in my lower leg, under the calf muscle. It went away before the marathon so I put it down to tapering madness. It also didn't bother me during the run. However, it's come back and I haven't done any running yet! It's odd because the pain comes and goes and also moves around!! It feels like aching bones or sore tendons. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Get to a specialist or go and have a sports massage who might be able to shed some light on it Tricky.
Do it before you start contemplating anything else

NO WAY SAM!  I was told no-ne EVER got through on through on the ballot!!!  I think we should rename our forum First Timer to "Second Timer and still going"??!!

    Any other ideas????

  • Options

Oh well as you two are doing it guess i'm going to have to give it another go. Yes I would love to do sub 4.30 as that is what i trained for before but had to be happy with a 4.59!

hiya Bootsie don't be scared we all did it but seemed to spend weeks either out running or talking to each other on this thread. you can do it!! ENJOY

Hello again everyone! Congrats to those that got through on the ballot. I toyed with the idea for a while of applying and putting it down to fate whether I got through or not but never applied in the end. I would like to have another crack at it as not happy with my time but I can't face the commitment so soon. Those cold nights out running will be replaced by nights in the pub ha! Wishing you all the best of luck though I still get that excited feeling when I think back to doing it last year

Hi Laura good to hear from you. i know what you mean there is a part of me that does not want to commit at the moment. i just feel that as i got a ballot place I need to to have another go before i get too old!!

gossy , couldnt believe it myself !!! had  been expecting a FLM coat to drop through the letter box so i was doing cartwheels round the lounge when i got my acceptance letter ! i dont think ive met anyone who has got in 2 years on the bounce .  dont know if this has got anything to do with it but i met david bedford (the FLM race director) whilst in new york for the ING new york marathon . shook hands with him and told him that this years marathon was one of the most memorable experiences of my life . he thanked me very those comments but cant remember him  making any promises about getting into the '08 race . top bloke !!!

i know I realy wanted a jacket too!!!  oh well, FLM 2008 here we go!  went for a half hour jog today and it went ok so looks like im on for it!  Ho Hum...toying with the idea of dressing up.  My Number is 10666...a pair of red running legs, a red cape and some horns? what do you think?!  Also as im in through the ballot want to choose a charity.SBS did you run for a charity last year?

I know a couple of first timers this year and have already given them the inspiration quote SBS spoke about..they cried (and one is a six foot 2 black belt karate bloke!!!)

Bootsie...have a look back and you'll find it...it worked for me last year!!!

Started the programme today went for a 3 mile jog it was nice the sky was blue. if only it was always that good oh well its all worth it when you get your medal and goody bag!image

gossy , i did and didnt run for charity this year . basically i raised funds for my little boys football team . thats the beauty of getting in through the ballot , if you dont want the pressure of raising money you dont have to . on the other hand , if you do , you can afford to be choosy . if your running number is 10666 (i'm 4999 by the way) you might be better of running in something to do with the battle of hastings incase you come across some religeous nut !!!

by the way gossy and sarah , you do realise that we are all going to start at the blue start as this is for the ballot winners (is winners the right word to use ?!) .

sarah , make the most of the blue skies , you know whats coming in the next few months !!!
