I thought the forerunner 201 was about the cheapest you can get, I don't think I've seen any cheaper - especially if you've got a US connection. You will need a transformer if your charger is the same as mine as the connections to the forerunner are non-standard and the charger isn't 240/110V switchable. We have lots of US kit at work so I charge mine there (fortunately the 15 hour battery lifetime means this not too much of a hassle) but I suspect someone like RS, tandy or maplin or even a travel accessory shop would sort you one out for 10-15 quid.
Tandy? Didn't they go belly up? One's other half is buying me one from Ebay for my birthday as we speak so will need this charger? So is Maplin still going?
Also what's everyone's training like so far for Dublin? I'm struggling!!!
Does anyone know the route for this year at Dublin? as they always seem to change the course every year. I heard last years was nice, so lets hope they keep it the same! 2002 was hard running up through Pheonix park at 19 mile finished me off. It says on the website it would be up at the end of March, but still not route.
I do like my new GPS. Went out tonight and it really does make you work harder. I like the Timex one. It tells me all I need to know. I have looked at the forerunner 201 but think I will stick with what I have. Hope it helps me train for Dublin.
Didn't know Tandy had gone bust - but I live in a village and I rarely venture out to the scary world of the big city. If you need a 240V/115V power converter, try amazon.
As for training, I'm settling in for a summer of ~40 miles per week with 5 running days, inc. 1 long 'un of ~15M and a speed session of yasso's or mile repeats. Aim is to keep this going through to beginning of august then switch to last 10 weeks of RW marathon training schedule.
At least we'll be training in daylight compared to the dark nights for the FLM.
hi, running this one with a group from my running club.
I was going to start in July too Andre, but am planning on racing 10ks through the summer and keeping to a max of about 8 miles. Since Sundays stratford half where I really struggled in the heat, i dont think Ill be up to much more.
Hippo, I came so close to meeting you on Sunday that Im going to make sure I do in Dublin!
I'm still struggling to sort out accomodation for Dublin - i'm with a party of about ten with seven of us running. it seems a waste to book B&B when we get the race breakfast on the sunday and porridge only on race day.
Does anyone have any suggestions - looking for somewhere near to some beer for the saturday night
i've tried the websites for Dublin but all but recommendations help
galloper, We are booked into the Jurys inn, Christchurch. do a search via google and you should find it. thats near the centre. there is currently 31 of us going from our club, should be good!
Galloper - go the the following web site. We have booked an apartment in the temple bar area called millenium apartments. They are very reasonably priced. We arrive on the Sunday and depart Tuesday.
little sis and i booked in for first marathon at dublin, plane and hotel booked only problem now to get to start line what's the course like? how hilly is it, looking for advice for novices
Hi Hippo. Not really started training for marathon yet. I have to get the Highland Cross out of the way first and it is in 7 weeks so concentrating on hill walking and cycling. Did a 26 mile cycle today as it was my day off. I need to be able to walk 20 miles through Glen Affric up a very large climb and then cycle 30 miles so trying to get this done first but hopefully it will get me fit enough to train for Dublin. Hubby still says no way for 5 hours. Daughters wedding getting very near as well - only 6 weeks and guess what I am still the same weight so she didn't get her way!!!!
Hope things are fine with you. What is your next race?
Good to see you doing races. What time are you looking for for Wednesday?
Think hubby is just trying to motivate me ( at least I hope so. He did wait for me today on the cycle and said if I lost weight I would be a good cyclist. I am fine on the flat but put me on a hill and I just cannot do it.
Hiya Flying Fairy - Yes, Dublin is hilly but don't let that put you off, it's really not that bad. The only annoying thing is that every single spectator will tell you at every single hill "...this is the last hill..." - my problem was that I believed them until I turned the next corner.
Hiya Shades - In terms of novice running I thought it was. Not major mtns though....just lots of little ones. I reckon it's better to expect them than be unprepared.

Q, what is a good basic entre model and at about what price should i be looking to pay.
I feel that maybe some of my more longer runs need to be a bit more accurate and I hope something like a GPS would be a great help.
Where did you get a transformer for your Garmin?, My mate is on his way back to US tomorrow with mine, so I will need to get the same thing.
