Okay - I shall be running in Thanet on 4 September; who can persuade me to do the marathon rather than the half? The last (and only) non-London I have run was Southend in 1984 - why should I do this one?
Hi SBF - Over the worst now (I hope) but still covered head to soles of feet with scabby blisters and with a face like the elephant man with acne. It's been an absolutely wretched week; I'm just glad my kids have had it young when it's not such a b*stard. Took me completely by surprise.
Anyway, all being well I'll try and get out for a little jog next week to find out how much fitness I've lost. Looks like the 50k at the end of the month won't be on for me now, but no excuses for the Kent Coastal...
There's someone on the half marathon thread looking for a lift from London the day before or on race day for petrol share costs... Jump over there if you can help!
Hi TRACblister well done for sunday mate total respect in that heat ! it was all I could do to sleep of a hangover on Ramsgate beach "sunburn ". On the triping front welcome to the club it is an elite if painfull club, your next task should you choose to accept the challenge is to take on the dreaded benches at stone bay.
MF7- I don't think I'm up to benches yet, I'll leave that to the expert!
Can we book some cooler weather in advance please, the last two races have been way to hot! As the London Marathon Mag arrived today I'm inspired to go for a good time (again).
People may already asked you this, but will be there any pacing groups?
I leave in Sounth East London and will be taking a lift from a friend. How long do you think it will take to get there considering the marathon starts at 9:30?
Celtic, I'll answer your email when I get back to work on monday.
Edgar, Give it 90 minutes from the M25 to be safe. There are currently no plans for pacing groups (unless I can persaude some of my club members to run them...), but you will soon find someone going for the same goal as you either here (what is your goal) or at the start when you line up according to times... It is a much smaller event than London, so the need for pacing groups with their inevitable 'express train' like behaviour isn't so easy to accommodate. Good luck with the training
AB Are you yet persuaded to do the full? There is many a reason why you should. 1. Give yer family more beach time. 2. Give yer family more Westwood Cross shopping time. 3. The ice cream tastes better. 4. You get the benefit of the whole Thanet coastline. 5. Miles 13-26 are flat. 6. Kudos of a non-London marathon. "Everyone" has done London! 7. Per mile, miles 13-26 are cheaper! 8. Extra exposure to the sun in yer vest and shorts will top up yer suntan! 9. Errr...can't think of any more. 10. oh yes...I don't wanna be left on me own on the marathon course. I want company!!
As Del Boy was wont to say: "You know it makes sense...."
Thats an impressive goal. I guess that makes you about a 1:20 half runners? Make sure you include some 'undulation' work in your training :-).
There will definetely be some people around who can take you through 13 miles in around 1:30ish to get a slightly negative split (quicker, flatter second half). Try asking on the Half marathon thread who aiming for the 1:30 and is fairly consistent...
I posted my entry with my voucher from the Thanet 20, should I receive anything to confirm Im in? Ussually you can check to see if your cheque is cashed.Or do I just assume I am in. Thanks
Foggo we are still loading all entries into the race computer and will send out race numbers etc after postal entries close. If you are concerned E-mail us your real name and we can check that we have received your details E-mail address is on TRAC website.
As I've just said on the half thread, there is now a route description on the web site. The map is still on its way and should be done in the next few days - certainly before the weekend.
There is also a list of current entrants on there.
