Thanks everyone. I've just had a celebratory beer. Can't quite believe it. As this is a VLM thread I'd better explain that I'm actually doing Brighton which is the week before so my schedule started this week. I'll be talking that through in more detail with Ultra Min. I should have done 4 miles today but felt the beer was more important tonight so not a good start but I promise to hit the road or the tready tomorrow and work hard.
I'm feeling very proud to represent the forum plodders. I won't let you down.
Edit - I'll let you all know what my schedule is when I've had it "approved" by my new "boss".
Spence - I'm thinking of following a schedule thats "faster" than a beginner guide which look a bit short on miles to what I'm used to, but doing the distances at a slower rate using HR, so something like sub 4 schedule at snails pace. But I await further instructions and advice.

Please climb on board JD and Podds and any other plodders. I'll be glad of the company.
I shall be around Soupy fear not - couldn't abandon my fellow bike hill climber from last spring
Not marafunning myself this year but need a kick up the wotsit for other goals - hope to see you out and around over the next few months and might even make it to Brighton to spectate as I've got clubmates racing it too
however all plans depend on finding a dogsitter for these excursions as I can't always bring him with me

I'm really pleased to see there's someone selected who's aiming at a time I consider realistic! Those speedy people leave me feeling ploddy. I'll be watching with interest...
Celebratory beer! I see I shall have to be having a word withmy protege!!! Tee hee!
Took me a bit to find this cos I'm no longer Ultra Min, since I joined the dark side.
Soupy - how about you pm with your contact details and we'll arrange to have a chat over the next few days and sort out how we want this to pan out? Is that okay?
(p.s. delighted and honoured to be part of this experiment!)
Hi Ironmin - I wondered if it was you! I don't know if I met you at The Vit this year or not. Thanks a million for volunteering. I will try my bestest. I'll pm you with my contact details in a minute when I've found my mobile number because those who know me will tell you that I'm hopeless with mobiles and can never remember my number or to switch the flippin thing on. But I'll try my bestest at that too.
Welcome along TP and Holly, glad you are joining us. Its going to be a lot of fun and I'm reassured there are others at my pace. I sometimes feel a right fraud on a running forum at the pace I go at.
Still horrid icy slush on the pavements here so I went to the gym today. 7 mile bike there from work then 4 miles on the treadmill with 3 x 800m @ 85% HR and 3 x 400m recovery walk/jog. Total time 47 mins. Then a 2 mile bike home again. Enjoying a cup of tea now.
These are my heart rate zones that I'm working on:
My marathon pb by the way was way back in 2008 when I did London run/walk and finished 5:20. Last year I did Brighton and finished in 6:10 or something terrible like that. My running went to pot when I started swimming and biking last year but I really want to get it together again now.
Okay, I'd better pootle off to find my mobile now. See you all later. Happy running and run safe in this cold weather.

Commiserations to those who didn't get picked but come in and share the fun with us. All welcome. I hope Ultra Min is gentle with me to start with.

I'll be plodding along with you too
I've never really done any HR stuff for years but if there's good advice going on it I will dig out my HRM and give that a go.
