Fantastic fundraising NR! I got a place for NY through the ballot - and good job too seeing as I'm still trying to get people to cough up sponsorship for London back in April! Good luck to everyone with their training.
you can't turn your back for 2 mins on this thread without hordes of postings. Seaweed, you started it all - and where are you now? By the way I've re-registered at work as I couldn't work out how to post using SY3 so if you see a post from 'Credit Card' you'll know who it is.
Am I right in thinking now would be about the right time to get myself a new pair of trainers for the marathon - (the ones I've been training - not sure they are gonna hold out till November...?)
Definetly , I paid the price at the FLM2002 , was a new runner aswell and didnt change my trainers for 6 months , must have ran 300-400 miles in them. Was informed by a sports masseur that trainers start to lose there effiency after 150 miles
NR - your suggestion that a bright spark should collate the data on NY entrants seems not to have caused a stampede of volunteers! I'm far from a bright spark but I've gone through and got what I can. Its all written down at present but I will get round to putting it on a spreadsheet which I can then e-mail to whoever is interested.
The declared entrants so far: Seaweed george New Runner Caketin Littel Feat Puffer runningman Oldbones SYthree Gnasher jane gallagher Cheeky Monkey RomfordRunner The Bobolink Tea & Toast Man
I've also taken the following where its been available:
real name dates of travel flight details (dates/airline/airport) Hotel Est. marathon time Tour operator (if applicable) Charity (if applicable)
Any suggestion for changes to the above would be welcome. If any of the above want to give more info. then e-mail me from the forum which will also give me your e-mail addresses to pass on the s/s file when ready.
I've just remembered there is another one from another thread - was it Liz?
in NYC 31/10 to 6/11 Flying with US Airways from sunny Manchester not sure where I'm staying yet - organisational issues! Hoping to get around in 4h30m (ish) Not travelling with a tour operator Running for the Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
I can tell you that meeting up at the pasta party is likely to be a non-starter as there are up to 30,000 entrants + guests filing in and out of the tents on a rolling basis!!
Better off saying something like 2pm Saturday afternoon in Battery Park (or whatever) for a meet-up then we could all go on a boat trip together???
Get your point, but only suggested Sat pm as it: a) would be after the International run (if opted for) and before the pasta party. b) would hopefully not clash with going to the Expo (which you should do as soon as you arrive in NY to miss the weekend crush when the majority of US entrants arrive)
If we dont manage to meet 1 et another before travelling 2 NY , How about once the hotel list is drafted , meet at the most convenient hotel on Friday evening , virtually all of us should be out there by then??? I will also have a mobile with me which works with the US
Always though New York's a great place to take kids.
I'm bribing my non-running girlfriend (Tea & Toast Lady) to accompany me by paying for her flight. Think she'll be cheering me on from the Clinique counter at Macy's!
By the way I'm flying 30th October on BA177 from Heathrow to JFK. Staying in Greenwich Village area. Hope to meet some of you before The Big Day.
Oldbones, Sorry to be late with this but I,ve been away ( more of that on the General thread later ).
Add to the list : I'm travelling out on Thursday 31st. at 13.15, from Heathrow with Air India ( very cheap flight and good timings ). Staying at the Washington Jefferson hotel on 318w 51st.
How about meeting at the Javits Expo centre on Friday morning? That way something could be aranged for friday evening or Saturday ?????
More for your list - names that have said they are going: Nuts 2002, Pizza Man , Keith every, Legume, Ronner, Surfer, Jinny 39, Swiss Tony, Chris-manson, Geezer, Liz and nuts , Diane Augustus, Noil, Waapster, and for some reason, I've got snicks down as well but I think thats a mistake. Good luck.
thanks T&TM - Mrs OB is coming with me and will disappear into 5th Avenue at the first opportunity and I probably won't see her until the 4th!!!
george - many thanks for the bombshell of all those extra names!!! I'll try to find time to contact as many as I can but if any of them are reading this thread then please e-mail me from the forum to be included on the list.
I and some others don't arrive until Friday pm so can't do your suggested meet I'm afraid.
The Bobolink and his wife ( Kakey ) will be staying at the Millenium just off Broadway. Having been to NY before I have an idea where this is and it's a super location. Across the road is Virgil's bbq and diner and they do a mean bowl of cheese and chilli fries. Also they serve Brooklyn red beer which for the beer enthusiast is quite good. In Upper Manhatten is my favourite diner of all time ( not that I know many ) called Big Nicks ! it's a wonderful down to earth place patronised by the locals, great place if you like that sort of thing. Near to the Empire State is a superb bar called The Gingerman with a massive selection of local and international beers, foods good as well. Can you tell i'm getting excited.
Anyone doing any training?! I havet o say I jsut loked back at what I've done so far and I think I've only run 4 times a week twice in 10 weeks! Every other week I've done 3 runs (including one increasingly long one) Aiming to do 16 on sat ...how is everyone else getting on?
I've taken a day off work specifically to do my long run today so I can do a 10K on Sunday. But I'm getting sucked into the work of scary daytime telly. Helllllpppp!
because of my advanced years I ran only 3 times a week pre FLM and usually did 1 or 2 gym sessions. I'm doing the same now but have yet to start the really serious mileage. The last 2 long runs have each been hilly 13's and I've a flat 1/2m at Lake Vyrnwy this Sunday - then the fun begins. Injury free at present!
