When you do it next year make sure you train for it! I didn't really do much other than FLM & Devonvale Marathon. OHHH mate it hurts!! but it's all worth it, I really enjoyed seeing that finishline.
On the race details they mentioned hills at 6m, 9m, 13m & 31m. but they forgot to mention the ones at - 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30,31,32 miles, and a bit!
when richk gets the photos online - you will have to remember that the disposable camera I took them with has a very wide angle and seriously distorts the hills - it makes them look far less steep
one of my favorites is that LLLLOOONNNGGG hill at Mile 6 - when you see that for the first time, it makes you gasp before you've even started - I took a photo looking back from the top - well nearly the top, and even with the wide-angle it manages to look pretty steep ...
yeah, for the Discovery I reckon you need lots of hill training and a hilly marathon 5 weeks before (unless you're Shades ofcourse!!)
next year I shall TRY NOT to do Dartmoor Vale M 20 days before, it was too close to the Discovery for me ... and was meant to be a training run, but I got tempted to go for a PB ...
Muzza - Don't worry - if I do decide to go for it next year, I will certainly train for it. That's why I didn't entertain the thought of doing it this year. BTW - have you seen your forum contribution to the Dartmoor Vale Marathon in the new edition of RW?

I think the pic of you and Anastassia running across the shot beside the signpost should be blown up into a billboard poster to show the world of non-runners what they're missing out on . . Paskha did a great job didn't she . .
Keep thinking about it Benz, you can stop and survey all those beautiful views as captured in paskha's photos. I walked all the hills, they are too steep and long in places to contemplate running.

It is a fantastic event and the organisation is superb, including the disco in the evening to stretch out those tired legs, so mark your calendar, Sat 5th june 2004.
Ibuprofen, a few beers, a fling round the dancefloor and yourlegs will be in better shape than just resting.
Will set you up nicely for Potts, as when you go to run that you'll think 'this is only 26.2' compared to the 32.4 you would have completed at Discovery. What date is the Potts 2004?

BTW I don't ride bikes either, last time I was on a bike I hit a 5 bar gate and flew over the top, ruined my friend's bike.
