A bit of a late start to the old forum for me this year, but best of luck to everyone and will see you all there (whether I recognise anyone or not will be a different matter!). What's the protocol for people running some of the way with you if they haven't got a number-could someone join at say 22 and run to the end with you if they wanted, or is it a no go?
Pugheaven-I didn't know you were doing this, thought you were a shorter distance sort of chap? Were you at Vyrnwy this year? I was, but v slow as was running with my brother for his first ever half mara. Bless!
that's clever paul. i'll also have a custard with me that plays the theme tune. mint.
think you'll be ahead of me though. i'm more cut out to run it very slowly and go round for seconds than to run it quicker once. who knows i might surprise myself.
I went over to Anglesey in September and remember a long section of roadworks on the A55, but if you leave any earlier Kwaka you'll get caught in the rush hour at this end which is probably what'll happen to us-leaving from South Manchester about 5 ish!
Go down the A494 and across the forest on the B5105 into Betws and head for Capel Curig and avoid the A55 altogether, not much in the way of time difference, and as far as I know, no road works..
I can confirm that there are no roadworks along that stretch - have been working near Nantgwynant this morning - picked up race pack afterwards. Had a little run from Nant Peris to Llanberis and back - there was a nasty headwind on way back, which would make the Llanberis Pass climb even harder
On well Kwaka, that's about the time I was driving-you should have a clear run but you'll still need to slow down through the roadworks. I got to Anglesey in plenty of time.
So are we saying that its best to avoid the A55 then? I know last year when I tried to get home along that stretch after the end of the race it was absolutely awful
I wouldn't have thought going back on a Saturday would be too bad PF - it is normally Sundays which are bad - as are Friday nights - "visitors" coming in and going back. I wouldn't have thought tomorrow morning would be too bad.
A55 it is then, Thanks John. usually a 3hr drive to Llanberis for me, but hopefully slightly less leaving so early. I shant be leaving until after a good breakfast on Sunday morning!
Just back from picking up the pack - I turned off A55 and up the conway valley to Betws and capel curig - the traffic was backed up to Deganwy at about 7.00. Once picked up the pack I came back through the roadworks about 8.30 it was nice and clear both ways.Interesting driving down the pass - sheet rain and a fair wind - spoke to a local in a flat cap(he was wearing the cap) he said wind would drop and we'd get 13 degrees in the morning.
