tumps - this one is feeling fantastic! Couldn't be better. There is nothing in the world to match this feeling - and I never, ever get tired of it or take it for granted. It's still amazing to me that we actually win hte league sometimes. Now on to Moscow...

Just noticed 240 people out of 1450ish starters at Tewkesbury failed to finish due to the heat , not good that.
  • Options
TR - a great run given that heat mate. Not surprised that so many failed to finish. Hope there was enough first aid for everyone.

Look forward to seeing a few Beanies at Kingsbury tomorrow.   Hope there's a good turnout, as the future of the race could be in some doubt otherwise.

For me it's a question of whether I run or whether I marshall, as I've got the Windermere marathon this Sunday.   Shall see how I feel tomorrow night.

By the way, watch out for those midges (they'll be out in force tomorrow if they know we are coming!!!).

    See you there.

Juicer will be bringing little Juicer and little Caz to marshall.

What, the feeling when the prawn sandwiches are JUST how you like them PM?imageimage

SD - sadly won't be at Kingsbury this year, can't get there on a Tuesday. Good luck for Windermere, I'll be around those parts on Saturday doing the Old County Tops - give me a wave if you see me up above on the ridge!

Have a great time at the Classic tonight - would have joined you but I've a plane to catch to Spain tonight ( away for a two week working holiday ) - so I ran 6 miles in the heat at lunchtime to acclimatise.

No doubt will post whilst I'm away.

    see you all soon

    Lucky you AA!!

Looking forward tonight though I've been on my feet all day!

I've found no trace of the *racin the Basin* this year - anyone know anything about it?

MH: RtB has been cancelled for this year.

    DH: how's the hip?

A shame that - even worse was missing Kingsbury , I got up to get my kit and the phone went to tell me my youngest daughter has broken her wrist falling from a bloddy rope swing in the woods! Not off a horse FFS - she falls regulary and I bought her body armour for that , no a rope swing in the woods!

She's fine but an evening spent in the Good Hope A& E was just dandy!

MH did you meet The juicer with mini juicer she was in Good Hope also last night after falling from the slide at the Kingsbury Classic , RC told me this morning that she is ok nothing broken sorry to hear about your little one.(mini juicer on the slide not the big one image)

Had a great run round the Classic managed to finish in 41:30 bang on even if RC says the course is short and cant count as a pb but it is an official 10k race and was three and a half mins faster than last year, think that was down to ER holding me up last yearimage.

And RC missed a piece of glass wear by 12 secondsimage

Yes, all is well with little Juicer. Sorry to hear about little MH.

Big congrats to TR on his 6 Mile p.b last night image TR had it as 5.99M and SD had bang on 6M so I think it's pretty undesputable!! image

My performance FELT as though it was about 47:00 but turned out it was 48:40. I missed the 3rd lady trophie by 12 seconds as TR said image  Couldn't continue the Beanie trophie collection Juicer started last year .... think we should attend in force next year Beanies!! image

Next 10k race tomorrow and then 7m race on Sun (although times seem to be getting slower already!!

Little RC's birthday today image Been a nice pressie opening morning ... and then Buffet Island tonight image

After working in Leeds yesterday, I stayed over in Manchester and went to collect my Moscow ticket this morning and booked my roubles from the travel agents as well - all very exciting for me anyway.

Anyone running this evening? If not, I'll be out tomorrow and Friday morning. Then off to London for the weekend (I'll take running gear in case I'm sober at some point), then up to Manchester late on Monday night for a 6am flight on Tuesday - flying back on Thursday evening. That's enough about my plans for the next 8 days or so.

ER - I'm a veggie so no prawn sandwiches for me at allimage

    Morning image

Poor old Y5 doing long writing task so have a bit of time as can't halp them.

Juiecr - well done on your race last night, sounds like you had a good time. The kids were great, we had a lovely evening. They ate a fair amount and we were there for 2 hours. didn't have to speak to them about anything, they were really well behaved and polite and well mannered, I really enjoyed it image Funniest moment was a discussion we were having when mini RC asked "what's a legend?". So I started a long garbled, unclear explanation of the word 'legend', starting with the myths and legends, story type answer and explaining that it could even be a persson who is remembered for something for years and years. Again I reitterated about the whole story thing and morals to stories and then stopped, happy that they had understood my explanation. It went quiet for a moment and little RC sat there looking a little puzzled. "Oh!?" she said, and continued in a rather loud voice "I thought a legend was what you call two women!". image I immediately cracked up, as did the bloke on the table next to us, and for the rest of the evening he and I would start tittering again, choking on bits of fried rice and prawn crackers. I obviously went on to explain the 'two womwn' word, quietly!

TR - well done again on your 6M time image I saw you as being 26th ...... are you trying to be in the top 1/4 image Seems I was 6th out of 36 .......... top 17% image 2nd in my category but took me almost 49mins to run it .......oh to be female image Looking forward to tonights race?

Ran home from work yesterday and felt ok by the end of it. Not done a lot of milage this week but will have done 3 races by Sun, no wonder I feel shattered!!

DH - will you be running the Cure Lukemia this weekend? Is that when it is? Keep us posted.

Anyone around for a lap of the park next Tues at 5:30?

    TR - I've managed to convert it and open it and this is how it now looks;

"Kingsbury Classic 08 - Tarmac Runner tried in vain to match the time of the super-fast Evil Rich the year before (who incidentally ran with much slower runners for the first 5k), but failed miserably and will have to resign himself, once again, to being nowhere near fastest Beanie.  In addition, his position of 25th was a major disappointment, again nowhere near matching the 7th place achieved by Evil Rich last year."

A good, comprehensive and well-balanced report I thought?

These "window thingy" converter tools are GREAT aren't they? image

    Oooh, meeow!!     image

Don't know where all those other 24 runners came from.  I could have swore you were top 10 TR, obviously wasn't paying attention!!

I accidentally did a fell race last night, which was super fun!  Only went along to cheer and support, as I thought it wouldn't be enjoyable blasting up and down the super steep Caradoc over in Church Stretton.  But a couple of really great (and slightly slower) other Newport girls were doing it, so I decided to run with them.  Lots of laughs (when we could manage to speak), great views on a lovely clear evening, and we all finished grinning hand in hand.  Aaah.  Was really glad I took the plunge.

Probably won't be as frightened of short fell races now either.  Honestly felt like I hadn't done anything afterwards.  3.5 miles and 880' ascent.

I think that running on grass and trail must have slowed me down but aided you as its more your bag.

Nope Juicer, you're gettting me and TR confused. He's the "Top 25" finisher whereas I am the "Top 10" finisherimage
How many other times have you got the two of us confused?image

Yeah, perhaps...but not by THAT muchimage

imageActually, I can't even remember what my time was last yearimage  It is clear that there was a much better turnout this year, I wouldn't have been 7th!!! That's a great time improvement on last year anyway TR, well done.

Twas a smashing little event. I found out just how much short-race speed I'd lost! It seems to take me 6 miles to warm up now. Need to do more of these, I'm not used to that "sick, wanting to throw up" feeling anymoreimage

Had a little warm down going back up the race route and met the girls on their way down. Ran in just behind them, which I can assure you was a sight good enough to revive me after a tough race image

Serious bit here ER. Talking of how long it takes to warm up. I'm certain that as I get older it's taking me longer to feel comfortable running. Every run in recent weeks I've been faster and more relaxed in the second half. The first half always feels really tough. It never used to be like that. Oh dear, it's not going to get any easier is it? Yes it will with more training!

Did a nice 5 miles or so today at around 8 min miling that felt very good (even though the second half was better even on a shorter run like that!)

    Great time TR

RC - we know it's easier as a woman. Look at the marathon 'good for age' times - not only are you many years younger than me but you get an extra 30 mins to qualify - unfair I reckonimage

That's interesting that you say that. I was putting it down to the fact that almost all of my events these days are really long and therefore I get the opportunity to set off at a very steady pace knowing there's plenty of time later for picking it up. But you could be right, perhaps it is age? I certainly felt like I should have done more warming up last night.

The other factor is the psychological one. I just haven't been doing those short races (up to 10k) and my brain has really forgotten what it feels like. Long stuff is all about mental stamina through fatigue, whereas shorter stuff seems to be about mental strength to maintain a high effort level despite the body desperately resisting! I fancy more of the short stuff, and I think it'll come back.

  • Options
Pah, if you followed my training regime, you are straight into it at top speed and no question of discomfort...age doesn't count, experience is the key  image

Hi i'm mini juicer i want to say thank you to running cazimage

Agree with that ER. Mind you, I also realise that I used to do a lot more stretching before running and seemed to have stopped that for reasons unknown. Ah well...

tumps - of course, how silly of me...
